Talk about bad timing

Ya think some Planned Parenthood fans might have wished that report didn’t make it out this week? The ones involved in Fitchburg likely do:

Local city and religious leaders this week reacted to a report issued by the International Planned Parenthood Federation, which criticizes the approach the Catholic Church and Islam take to sexuality, and states that children as young as 10 are “sexual beings.”

Suddenly Massachusetts planned parenthood doesn’t know these people:

Jesse Mermell, vice president of External Affairs for the organization, on Thursday said she is not familiar with the report, and that the International Planned Parenthood Federation is a “completely different organization, of which we happen to be a member.”

Mermell said the connection between the Massachusetts league and the international organization is weak.

It has elicited some comment from the city counsel:

Ward 4 Councilor Kevin Starr said though he hadn’t read the report, he took issue with Planned Parenthood’s apparent criticism of religious groups.

“You need to respect the beliefs of the people in this city. There’s a lot of Catholics in this city,” Starr said.

Planned Parenthood would do well to keep quiet about different religions, given all the controversy that surrounds the organization, said Ward 5 Councilor Joseph Solomito, who had not read the report.

“You have a right to do it. Just do it quietly. Don’t put it in people’s faces,” said Solomito.

Still, the report doesn’t change his belief that Planned Parenthood has a right to come to Fitchburg, and the City Council should not oppose the organization.

Hey Joe if that doesn’t change your belief what will? I suspect that if you were as familiar with their history as Rosemary Reynolds was you still wouldn’t change you mind.

Councilor-at-large Rosemary Reynolds, who is pro life and has adamantly opposed Planned Parenthood, said she doubts the City Council is familiar with all aspects of Planned Parenthood.
“They’re not really upfront about it, and you have to go digging,” Reynolds said.

It’s must easier to keep oneself ignorant when you want to duck a tough call. It takes a special kind of courage to see what is in front of you and say it. Rosemary has that courage.

Tuesday’s meeting should be quite interesting.

Not bad for the 5th straight day of protest in a small city is it?

And what in fact are we protesting, maybe stuff like this:

A new report by the International Planned Parenthood Federation is advocating that children as young as 10 be given extensive sex education, including an awareness of sex’s pleasures.emphasis mine

because we all know how mature and restrained children are concerning their pleasures.

And it’s not as if planned parenthood isn’t doing things illegal these days: Oh Wait:

A Planned Parenthood clinic in Alabama has been put on probation by the state after an undercover sting helped reveal that underage teens had been receiving abortions there without parental consent.

State health officials said the Birmingham, Ala., abortion clinic has until next week to present its plan to correct violations involving minors receiving abortions.

Anyone who thinks kids raised on the internet don’t have access to sex information is out of their mind.

Shh don’t tell Joy Behar that John Fund remembers Ronald Reagan…

…and the 80’s a tad differently that his son might:

Not this time. Ron Reagan, now a talk show host in Seattle, got the ball rolling when he told Joy Behar of CNN Headline News that his dad wouldn’t have approved of either Sarah Palin or the “Tea Party” movement now roiling American politics. “Oh, I think he would be unamused by the tea partiers with their Hitler signs and all the rest of it,” Mr. Reagan told Ms. Behar. “No, I don’t think he’d be cottoning to that much at all.”

As for the Republican Party today, Mr. Reagan called it a “true train wreck” and said both Ms. Palin and new Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown were symbols of the decline of the GOP.

Mind you he is saying that the person who was only surpassed by Clinton and was SOLELY RESPONSIBLE for the period that John McCain had a shot (until he threw it away with the stimulus vote) and the person who was able to break the democratic hold on the Massachusetts delegation in congress as “symbols of the decline of the GOP? What planet is he living on? The same one as the commentator who claimed I never read her book.

But Michael Reagan, a talk show host on the other side of the political spectrum, took sharp issue with that analysis. “I believe he would embrace the Tea Party movement, if he were alive today, and support the work of Sarah Palin, Scott Brown and others who espouse conservative principles, who are opening up the eyes of the public to what is happening to our nation,” Mr. Reagan said in a statement. “There’s no doubt that President Reagan would respect the power and political potency of this movement.”

If Ron Reagan wants to know about the tea parties and the people therein he could do no better than to read Glenn Reynolds today.

Has it occurred to anyone that he might never have wanted to go to congress and only did it because his father wanted him to?

That is very possible, if that’s so then leaving might be a good thing for him. If it gets his head on straight and gets him right with the church it could be a very positive event for him personally.

No matter what I think of him politically, he is a fellow person and if he can improve himself then that is a good thing and I’m all for it.
