Reinstall time

Well the old Dell Inspiron 1150 stopped booting and silly me I didn’t have the administration password for the recovery console.

So it is out with the OS and reinstall time.

This is always a pain in the neck but thanks to my wife’s thoughtful give of an external hard drive last year everything is backed up.

So the rest of the night will be moving files and installing drivers, but that’s what a tech guy does.

Any tech guys knows a feature when he sees one.

On Instapundit Glenn quotes a reader Steve Nelson who nails it better than anyone else I can think of:

Notice the problem with Obama’s websites?

Neither he nor his staff is censoring the comments…. but they’ve set the site up to allow others to do so.

Neither he nor his staff asked for any illegal foreign contributions, or for contributions from obviously false donors….. they just disabled the standard controls and credit card checks to allow it to happen.

They didn’t have any ties to whacky characters with extreme ideas…. but the campaign website allowed anyone to set up a “blog” and put out the propaganda.

In each case, Obama and his staff were careful to leave no directly illegal / unethical fingerprints of their own….. but they sure made it easy for “supporters unknown” to do so through their IT systems.

Deniability — it’s built right in.

Looks like he learned the lessons of Chicago well. This isn’t a bug it’s a feature.

Well I’ve finally added a Router/Wireless setup offering and a Printer setup offering on eBay. Between that and the Virus cleanup, the System Tuneup and the System setup I now have a full line of tech services for sale on eBay.

As far as people actually bidding on them. Well as of today to quote the world’s most famous camel spotter so for my total bids have been….nearly one.

That’s not a huge surprise but I still have high hopes.

What you’ve never heard of Camel spotting? Well never let it be said that I skipped a chance to embed a Monty Python video:

The missing printer

Well was able to fix my friend’s printer. Turns out it wasn’t a question of the printer not being set as default, it wasn’t listed period! That’s very odd.

Since the printer was connected to their router I was able to detect it on the network and re-install with very little issue. It was a great chance to test out my remote connecting stuff and it passed with flying colors.

That was very handy, the LogMeIn rescue software might be worth buying just to save me trips to houses of friends and families over and over.
