Still preparing the full videos of yesterday’s debate but this statement from Bill Gunn expresses perfectly the difference between conservatives and liberals and liberalism

“I offer you the difference between the three candidates today. I offer you on the one hand a candidate that respects liberty, respects freedom, respects the potential of every individual to attain heights only imaginable. I offer on the other hand candidates that want to dictate to you what healthcare you must have or not have, what you can and cannot to, and will sentence your children to a life of mediocrity.”

If anyone has put the choice in this election better, I haven’t heard it

Here is the video

Last night the three candidates in my district, the first Massachusetts met in a debate in Gardner.

The crowd start to file in, all the seats would be full at the start

I saw several things I haven’t seen before. It was in a small area at Mt. Wachusett Community College (not even the main auditorium).

John Olver with aide before the debate

About 120 people attended to see a debate that was very different that what we’ve seen on TV nationwide.

Bill Gunn talks to a supporter before the start

First of all, there was no name calling

The Debate ended with a friendly handshake that was actually friendly

Second of all Congressman Olver DIDN’T run away from Obamacare or the Bailouts, or anything else, it was quite a change to see a democrat be an unapologetic democrat

The candidates and the moderator

Thirdly the 3rd party candidate is actually to the left of John Olver (and when the dem is a former professor at UMass Amherst that’s hard to do.)

Gunn and Engel disagree strongly but get along very well

On the issues Olver defended Obamacare, and the bailouts, he also touted projects he had brought home. On style he appeared every one of his 74 years, with some long pauses in between

Olver's mike seemed too high, he is REALLY tall

Bill Gunn went back over and over to the Constitution and returning control to the states, he attacked Obamacare as a monstrosity and stressed the power of the free market to solve issues

Bill Gunn Republican for Ma-1

Michael Engel attacked both Obamacare and the free market saying that government needs to partner with business, he suggested democrats were actually in bed with Big insurance and CEOs.

Michael Engel looking for another New Deal

The best part of the exchange, the candidates had dramatically different positions on almost every issue and expressed and defended them. It was some of the most substantive and informative mixed events I’ve seen and was a real service to the district. There was a really clear choice for the voters.

The worst part was the size of the venue, the shortness of the debate (only 1 hour) and that it was not broadcast live so many of the voters in the district likely would not see it. (I’ll fix that today)

On style Engel’s answers were the crispest, Gunn was close behind and Congressman Olver tended to ramble a little, on Substance, take your pick, agree or disagree all gave answers with substance.

This was a solid event, the crowd was well-behaved, the candidates stong in their beliefs and the questions relevant. The district would be well served to see this type of event every other day all over the area.

As the Big Red Wave continues to grow some odd coincides seem to be talking place:

In Arizona:

Here’s what the article doesn’t tell you, by a source in the Yuma County Recorder’s Office:

* These 3000 voter registration forms were all dropped off at once by the one group on the deadline to turn in voter registration forms.
* Almost all of the registrations were for the Democratic Party, a statistical improbability at best.
* Today, these same 3000 newly registered voters — as a group — had papers dropped off at the Yuma Recorder’s office requesting to be signed up for the permanent early voters list… which means the ballots will be mailed early, with no accountability.
* The Yuma Recorder’s office is checking the voter registration forms and have found that already more than 65% of them are invalid due to the registrant not being a citizen, wrong/invalid address, false signature, etc.

Well its not as Mi Familia is the same as the SEIU…oh wait:

Mi Familia Vota is one of two groups that reportedly registered thousands of new voters in and around Yuma last week.

Mi Familia Vota’s Arizona HQ address is 3707 N. 7th Street, Suite 100 in Phoenix

The address of SEIU Arizona is…um, 3707 N. 7th Street, Suite 100 in Phoenix.

Maybe it’s a really, really big suite?

Well it’s not as if this is happening in other states too, oh wait: Colorado:

A federal judge declined to force the secretary of state to reactivate approximately 6,000 new voters whose registrations were canceled under Colorado’s 20-day rule.

In a decision issued Monday, Senior U.S. District Judge John L. Kane denied a motion for a preliminary injunction that was requested by several labor and voting-rights groups.

When a new voter registers in Colorado, the secretary of state mails a nonforwardable notice of disposition that the voter’s registration has been received. If the notice comes back undeliverable in the mail, then clerks deem the voter’s registration inactive within 20 days.

Well I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that these registrations coudn’t verify an address, it’s not as if Democrats are using “walking around money” to get votes out or something…oh wait Pennsylvania: Philly to be precise

Rep. Robert Brady (D-PA), Chariman of the Philadelphia Democratic Party, was on MSNBC with Andrea Mitchell this morning. He was explaining how the Philadelphia machine was working to ensure Joe Sestak’s victory in the closely watched Senate race in Pennsylvania. Ms Mitchell asked, “What is the secret here to turn out? In the old days, the old machine days, what we called ‘walking around money,’ handing out money to get people to vote. Is it still the case? What do you do, what is the magic in Philadelphia?”

Rep. Brady (who looks and sounds like he came right out of central casting for the part of shady, party boss) shockingly acknowledged that the cash-on-the-streets strategy is not an antiquity but still part of the Democratic Machine’s playbook in 2010: “We still have the street money and we’re very knowledgeable,” he said.

Well that a big city it’s not as if actual voting irregularities are taking place…oh wait Las Vegas:

Joyce Ferrara said when they went to vote for Republican Sharron Angle, her Democratic opponent, Sen. Harry Reid’s name was already checked.

Ferrara said she wasn’t alone in her voting experience. She said her husband and several others voting at the same time all had the same thing happen.

“Something’s not right,” Ferrara said. “One person that’s a fluke. Two, that’s strange. But several within a five minute period of time — that’s wrong.”

Well we know Las Vegas is a wide open town it’s not like its going on in places like North Carolina or something

A Craven County voter says he had a near miss at the polls on Thursday when an electronic voting machine completed his straight-party ticket for the opposite of what he intended.

Sam Laughinghouse of New Bern said he pushed the button to vote Republican in all races, but the voting machine screen displayed a ballot with all Democrats checked. He cleared the screen and tried again with the same result, he said. Then he asked for and received help from election staff.

“They pushed it twice and the same thing happened,” Laughinghouse said. “That was four times in a row. The fifth time they pushed it and the Republicans came up and I voted.”

Paper Ballots anyone.

I’m absolutely positive that it is just a coincidence that all of these examples are democratic examples as they are in a dead panic over a tough election?

As Roxeanne DeLuca and Bob Belvadere reminded us about 3 weeks ago:

we don’t just need to mathematically get more votes than the Democrats; we need to win by enough so that they can’t steal elections from us.

Keep that in mind the moment you are tempted to slack off.

And he’s right about paper ballots, bulky stuff is hard to hide in an age where everyone has a camera, he also adds Dallas to the city list.

As he is won’t to do, Glenn Reynolds notes sales on Amazon and mentioned that the Andy Griffith show is discounted. To nobody’s surprise Glenn’s readers who have noticed Griffith’s shilling for Obamacare have been unimpressed.

Reader Jim Breed writes: “Does the Andy Griffith series have the episode where Andy approves as Dr. Obama gives Aunt Bea the blue pill?” Heh.

And reader Paul Beardsleee writes: “I always enjoy seeing your pointers to Amazon deals. I think I’ll pass on the Andy Griffith Show boxed set. Seeing ‘Sheriff Taylor’ shill for Obamacare makes me wonder whether Barney Fife needs to go all Serpico on his boss.”

Griffith’s fame comes from a time when there was less separation from the public image and the private beliefs of actors. Griffith make a famous video in favor of then candidate Obama with Henry Winkler and Ron Howard before the election and he donated his time to support Obamacare on the air.

Now the Andy Griffith was a pretty good show and at his age (84) I suspect he isn’t all that much worried about the bit of residuals those sales will bring, but I’ll wager a few other members of the cast and their descendents might not be so happy.

Update: Literally a bad link, was linked to the picture of a link, fixed, Thanks Dave
