Here come the flea markets

While Rachel Maddow was exciting Charles into his impersonation of the Ecstasy of St. Therese; LGF2 noted one more sign of an economy that isn’t moving as it did a mere 10 months ago:

They cashed out retirement funds to build their business during the 2008 presidential campaign. Now they have 3,000 jack-in-the-boxes with smiling Barack Obama puppets inside — all sitting in a California warehouse, waiting to be sprung open for $29.95 apiece.

For Barack-in-the-Box creator Heather Courtney and her husband, David Manzo, the Obamamania that drove sales so fast they could barely keep up during the inauguration is over now. Sales have slowed to a “sporadic drizzle,” the 36-year-old artist said, in part because the president just isn’t as popular.

And that’s just one product. In a few years flea markets will be flooded with junk like this.

Robert Stacy McCain Feb 15th 2009:

How to get a million hits on your blog in less than a year

Comment number 1 on that thread:

William A. Jacobson said…

I have no idea what you just said, but the “million hits” headline drew me in, almost as quickly as your pictures of pretty girls.

William Jacobson less than one year later:

Sometime early yesterday morning, I received my one millionth visit. Eleven months and two weeks after my first post on October 12, 2008.

EF Hutton has nothing on Robert Stacy. I’d listen if I were you:

What you don’t know EF hutton, I guess you’re not old like me:

Apparently the fact that Going Rogue is #1 on the list at Amazon has completely unhinged some people.

The Amazon discussion boards freature barking moonbats desperate to go after Palin and somehow prevent people from buying the book.

Some Gems:

She was bad governor, bad mother, bad wife, bad grandmother, and bad vice-president candidate, what can be so interesting about her???? How to be bad..

And we have the traditional liberal civility:

Wow anyone who buys this book is just as retarded as her son!

There is an echo of Chuckie here too:

Sarah Palin’s Ghostwriter Pals Around With Racists and Wackos

and my favorite:

Yeah but is anybody actually going to READ it?

If you are unfamiliar with this particular scam, let me clue you in.

You see what the Conservatives do is pre-order a whole ton of books by one of their minions like Glenn Beck, or Bill O’Reilly, or Rush Limbaugh, Or Sean Hannity, or Sarah Palin, and then either change their mind, leaving the book store with a whole bunch of books that NOBODY wants, or they have their money laundering book outlet, the Conservative Book Club, sell the books later at a loss.

A lot of the stuff is posted by a “Bella Luna” “Luna” appears to be short for “Lunatic”. She has a blog I won’t include the link and add to her meager hit totals.

However in the meat of the discussions you have many more people answering in sanity to wit:

Dustin:

You obviously think Sarah is some horrible person, but it’s clear to me that you haven’t taken time to consider if she’s really all that bad, or merely has different opinions. I think you would get a lot out of buying this book and finding out for yourself if you can think for yourself.

Former Bookseller:

The proof of whether anyone really buys her book is how many you find in remainder 6 months after publication. That is the only true measure of a book’s success. How many printed and how many remaindered. Oh, and don’t forget to check your public library and see how many of the books they bought and how long it takes to check one out. That’s another good measuring device. Otherwise shut your piehole and stop proving to everyone that your photo is used as the illustration of the word “fool” in the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

and my favorite:

She is stupid, she is irrelevent, she is a quitter”…..Yet there she is and one little twitter post from her turned the entire White House program upside down.

The real question is this: Are we dealing with a group of people who do this because they haven’t got a life or are they being paid to do this or both?

All I know is this: I went to one Palin rally in NH. The line to get in was all the way down the hill and the street. It was so long that hundreds ended up in an overflow area outside the school in a field. The people in line were well behaved and seemed to know their issues, they were very pleasant to talk to.

On the other side guys in Union shirts were on cells trying to gin up people to counter them. It was so bad that the they had kids out of school (led by an adult) to yell at us. It was amazing to see a teenage girl shout angrily at Palin for being a bad mother because her 17 year old daughter was pregnant.

When I see the stuff on the discussion boards I think of that girl and shake my head.

If these people truly believed it they would ignore her and let us walk of the cliff. They are scared REALLY scared.

Update: Apparently they do #2

Update 2: The American Thinker knows what to say:

Now correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t I hear the Jurassic media bury the career of Sarah Palin just last July? And weren’t they joined in this mockery by the so-called conservative elites like David Brooks and Karl Rove and Joe Scarborough and so on?

Wasn’t Mo Dowd just delirious in fact that the wicked witch (of her world) was dead?

You betcha.

Well, just who is looking out of touch and foolish now? Hint: It isn’t the Killa from Wasilla. And yes, I think that is her Brinks Truck in fact. One of them anyway.

Unless you live under a rock you know that Sarah Palin’s Going Rogue is #1 everywhere right now.

If I order it now I will join the long queue at the end of the line to get a copy.

However there is the possibility that the book might be offered via the Amazon Vine program of which I’m a member.

It’s highly unlikely. From what I figure vine is used to generate some buzz on a less known item. The book doesn’t need buzz to sell. I also suspect that they will want the biggest splash on release and the shortest gap between reviews and release but it is possible.

But the chance is there.

As a rule the first few minutes during the Vine newsletters releases are the remote equivalent of a mob at a store going after 10 “Tickle me Elmo” dolls, primarily due to cool electronics occasionally offered. If the Palin book goes up on either the prelim newsletter or on the main one you will see computers crashing and servers dying like you never saw before.

I’d better get the books I have now read and reviewed quickly just in case.

Oh and if I’m wrong and the book IS offered through vine AND I manage to get one I promise to get it read and reviewed as soon as humanly possible.
