I called it! Navy to rename the USNS Maury

Well, that didn’t take long. Remember this from way back in…June?

Any human being we’re going to name ships after is going to offend someone. Should we rename the USNS Maury, who despite contributing much to the study of weather and oceanography, fought in the Confederate Navy? Or the USNS Cesar Chavez, who advocated against immigration? Should we look deeper into the Kennedy family, which has plenty of skeletons in the closet and has two ships named after John and Robert Kennedy?

From “Renaming the Stennis is dumb

Well, it happened

From USNI

And its officially happening, as part of a larger effort to rename…everything.

All told, according to commission member Lawrence Romo, the list topped out at 1,100 items, from posts and ships to monuments, building names and streets.

Among the monuments recommended for removal in part 3 of the report is a Confederate memorial at Arlington National Cemetery.

“The statue atop of the monument should be removed. All bronze elements on the monument should be deconstructed and removed, preferably leaving the granite base and foundation in place to minimize risk of inadvertent disturbance of graves,” according to a Wednesday release, leaving the Army in charge of disposal.

From The Air Force Times

As I predicted before, anything named after people is destined to become a hot issue. We discover things long after someone dies, and perhaps the person isn’t quite who we thought they were. Or that person was biased against skin color, sexual orientation, or who knows what, which makes them 100% unacceptable now. Now, we could use that as an opportunity to highlight that people are fallible and we’ll have to accept both the good and bad that comes with that. We could highlight how brilliant people can still succumb to everything from the Confederacy to Nazism, and use that to teach our future generations how to not fall into that trap. Or we can simply say those people are evil and scrub them from mention while looking for the next person to cancel.

Never mind that Matthew Maury contributed a lot to our understanding of oceanography. He’ll get scrubbed from existence. And don’t worry, its coming for Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Cesar Chavez, and many others. Want to bet Donald Trump is on that list? Or what about lesser known people like Kyle Rittenhouse, whose only “crime” was standing up to criminals?

At some point we’ll either learn to accept that historical figures will always have flaws when viewed from the present day, or we’ll risk repeating their mistakes in the future.

Since our friends on the left claim to be shocked at the behavior of actual Christians taking people at their word that they love and welcome illegal immigrants and refugees let ask a Christian related riddle:

What do (most) of the welcoming Woke liberals of Martha's Vineyard have in common with Pontius Pilate former Roman Governor of Judea?

Read more: What Do the People of Martha’s Vineyard and Pontius Pilate Have in Common?

Like Pilate there were merciful, right up until it became inconvenient, to wit:

The folks in Martha’s Vineyard are completely on board with the idea of being a Sanctuary for Illegal immigrants and welcoming such people like the good woke liberals they are. At least the 24 hours takes for the news cycle to report how virtuous they are…

…but not one second more. As Clay Travis put it:

#unexpectedly of course.

There is an old saying that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

So you would think a person who studies history, writes about history and makes historical documentaries (The Civil War is likely the greatest piece of work of it’s type although it couldn’t be made today as it does not rewrite history at the left’s pleasure) might not be too quick to play the “Holocaust” card on flying illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard.

You’d think wrong:

Seriously? You’ve just made a documentary on the US’ response to the Holocaust and you compare the murder six million and the attempt to erase an ancient people from history with flying illegals to the one of the wealthiest parts of a sanctuary state?

I mean idiocy from Steve Schmidt, Elizabeth Warren or Gavin Newsom or Soledad O’Brien or Molly Jong Fast, and Chris Hayes I expect but Burns should know better and should be in a position where he doesn’t need the fundraising to carry on.

One might expect one to be embarrassed by this but apparently being on the left means being incapable of such things

The Democratic Party is trying very hard to make sure they lose the upcoming midterm elections.  Unfortunately for the United States, Republicans are working just as hard to lose.

The midterm elections should be an overwhelming victory for the Republican Party.  The American people are truly suffering because of rampant inflation caused by Democrat’s economic policies.  Gas prices have nearly doubled thanks to the stealth Green New Deal enacted by the Democrats.

Culturally the Democrat party is widely out of step with the American people.  Just look at what the Democrats stand for, transgenderism, abortion, intolerance for the American Founding Principles, and so much more.

With just under two months to go, the polls are a bit disconcerting.  This is bad news for Republicans, and most importantly, bad news for the American people.  The fault lies with the Republican party, as you can see from this Brietbart article.

Unfortunately for Republicans, most voters — 56.1 percent — said Republicans have not made a strong enough case to warrant their support. Just one-third, 33.9 percent, said they have, and ten percent remain unsure.

Predictably, 87.1 percent of Democrats said the GOP has not done enough to make a strong case for their support, but a smaller majority of Republicans, 61.1 percent, said they have made a sufficient case, compared to 25.9 percent of Republicans who disagree.

Perhaps most concerning for the GOP is the fact that 57.2 percent of independents agree that Republicans have not done enough to make their case as the midterm elections approach. Just 28 percent of independents say Republicans have made their case, and 14.8 percent remain unsure.

What are the Republicans actually doing when they should be making their case to the American people?  Check out this Politico article.

Mitch McConnell is among the myriad Republicans questioning the Senate GOP’s quality of candidates in the midterms. Rick Scott wants everyone to stop doubting his recruits.

“Sen. McConnell and I clearly have a strategic disagreement here … We have great candidates,” the National Republican Senatorial Committee chair said in an interview Wednesday. “He wants to do the same thing I want to do: I want to get a majority. And I think it’s important that we’re all cheerleaders for our candidates.”

Republican Senators are now focusing on issues that will turn off independents and fence sitters, who are needed to ensure a Republican victory.

Just yesterday, Sen. Marco Rubio submitted a bill to prohibit protestors from blocking interstate highways.

While in itself, this bill is needed at some point, other things are needed much earlier. Like now.

This is the second time in as many days that a denizen of Congress (Sen. Lindsey Graham) came up with a bill that is far less pressing compared with the other far more dangerous issues we face.

He wants a ban on late-term abortions

Banning late-term abortions is not on the radar of most Americans in this very dangerous time of malignant inflation and cultural collapse.

I applaud both efforts, however, the timing for these bills is far from ideal, and of questionable constitutionality.

If the Republicans want to win the midterm elections, they immediately need to take lessons from Governor Ron DeSantis.

“We’ll hold Biden accountable,” DeSantis told guest host Raymond Arroyo. “This is a referendum on his failures, make sure everybody knows how his policies have contributed to the mess we’re in, and then articulate what you will do to address things like the border, like crime, like inflation. I think if you do that, I think Republicans are going to win both chambers. And I think it’ll be a really good night.”
