…and I guess on Morning Joe they were reading a different column.

I didn’t see anything attacking Rush or Newt but the way the morning Joe crowd was talking you would have thought it was a shot across the bow attacking them.

You can certainly make the case that since the odds of blocking this appointment are slim we should save our powder for when it matters but I think that apathy and concession breeds apathy and concession.

Charles is trying to elevate the debate, he makes points but it seems to me he is choosing to be Captain America bringing a shield to a sword fight. In case you forgot here is what happens when you do:

What happens when you come to a swordfight without a sword.

What happens when you come to a swordfight without a sword.

This president is a Chicago Pol, the democratic party is one big Chicago Machine in the way it works. The right way to handle it is the Chicago way.

If we are going to uphold what we believe is right we have to be willing to fight. As one of my favorite presidents (a democrat) said: A public office is a public trust. If a person doesn’t meet that standard we need to fight it out. I can’t find the clip but the operative quote here is from the liberal movie The American President:

A. J. MacInerney: Oh, you only fight the fights you can win? You fight the fights that need fighting!

This fight needs fighting.

You might recall something I wrote a post about a month ago called Is the worm Turning where I listed a series of items that indicated that things might be changing. In a follow up post I gave this advice:

When the president says he wants a dialog take him up on the offer. And when he ignores it ask: why? Remember how many months has it been since Rush offered him time on his show to debate the issues with him and the White house still has its tail between its legs? Note the dismissive comments at the Tea Party Site by the brave acolytes of this White House. They know their leader’s strength is image not reality so his followers make excuses and insults. This is called fear.

Remember these guys over reach. Don’t forget the feared John Stewart was given a spanking by Bill Whittle and he apologizes publicly.

The worm continues to turn. We just have to keep fighting.

The results of fighting back continue to come:

Item: Dick Cheney proves that more Conan and less Captain America causes fear in Democrats that leads to bad decisions:

White House officials deny that they felt any pressure from Cheney’s prior attacks to give a speech like the one he delivered on Thursday, but they did concede that Obama’s stance has been distorted in the debate over terrorism.

Congressional Democrats, however, tell a different story. Aides to top Senate and House Democrats say congressional leaders dragged the White House into delivering a speech Obama was reluctant to give, pleading directly with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. They warned of the revolt that finally materialized Wednesday when a solid Democratic majority in the Senate was stampeded into a landslide 90-6 vote against the president on funding the closure of Gitmo.

This was supposed to be a mismatch, It was.

Item: The neverending saga of Nancy Pelosi. The republicans have the Democrats on their heels on this issue. It’s so bad even the Boston Globe editorial page can’t defend her.

Item: California, land of liberalism rejects tax increases emphatically and one newspaper is so stung by the the reception of their voter bashing editorial that they back off claiming error as the most popular comment on the page says:

Hi … we’re the SacBee Editorial Board and we’re going to tell you how to vote. When you decide to ignore us and vote against what we’ve told you to do we’re going to lecture you and tell you how stupid you all are. Then, when you have the unmitigated gaul to defend your actions and hold us accountable, we’re going to change our message and hope that you don’t notice. See … now we’re not agreeing with you, you’re agreeing with us. We’re the SacBee Editorial Board and we suck.

Good thing that MSM is on the liberal side isn’t it?

Item: Not only do new polls show pro-life gaining a majority among Americans, but In New Hampshire “Gay Marriage” lost a vote the left thought was a fait accompli. I guess social conservatism can win in New England after all.The media obsession with Carrie Prejean naked tits really galvanizes support for “Gay Marriage” doesn’t it?

Item: Even when we don’t fight the White house is capable of self inflicted wounds as the Kindergarten fiasco manages to not only makes them look heartless but they blow the chance for an incredible photo opt of kindergarten students and the Pittsburgh Steelers making care packages for the troops together.

These people are vulnerable as hell. We need to keep up the pressure. More Conan, less Captain America.

Update: In case you’ve forgotten things have looked much worse before:

In 1977, as in 2009, the future seemed dark for the country’s conservatives, shut out of all of the conduits to power, with nary a bright spot in sight. “The result of the 1976 election was Democrats in power as far as the eye could see,” wrote Michael Barone in Our Country (1992). “It was almost universally expected that the Democrats would hold on to the executive branch for eight years; it was considered unthinkable that they could lose either house of Congress.” “Once again, the death knell of the Republican Party was being sounded,” added Steven F. Hayward, in his two volume study of Reagan. Notes historian John J. Pitney Jr., “The hot bet of the moment was not whether the Republican Party could reshape politics, but whether it could survive at all.”

Gee I wonder what happened next?

My post earlier this week about the worm turning managed to get more hits than anything I put up since the Boston teaparty photos or my instalance.

I’d like to think its because the conservative troops not only can be rallied but WANT to be rallied. They know that in the end reality trumps a facade, they are spoiling for a fight and just need to be pointed in the direction to do so. Well apparently the Sundries Shack via the green room sees the same potential that Rush and I do:

The thing is, the left hears the distant rumble of America’s real muscle and they are worried. You can see it, if you brave the shrill bloviations and glib japes and get close enough to look in their eyes. They feel the real change coming and they know. That’s why they’ve gotten louder and more shrill and are taking shots at anything that moves. The gnawing feeling in their guts is telling them, more and more, that they don’t have the stranglehold on us they think they do.

And part of fighting back, of being Conan instead of Captain America? Calling them on things:

Hold Obama and his Administration in toto to standards we’d expect and demand from friends, neighbors, businesses we deal with, or our own children, ourselves. You get the picture.

If Obama says there will be transparency in governance and government…OK, Mr, President…where is that transparency?

If Obama and Pelosi and Reid claim their’s is or will be the most ethical ever…hold their feet to the fire. Not one step backward. Push back. Make it clear to the American people where the threats are and who is aiding and enabling those threats to grow. I am not willing to bet my life, nor that of my children, nor my grandchildren, on the misteps and platitudes of this Administration. Are you?

Not one step backward!

Calling them out is easy. When a “feminist” or a liberal attacks a woman because of her appearance call her out. Remember there were feminists during the last election that knew candidate Obama for was he was is. And others discovering his promises are smoke. An honest feminist or liberal will call out a misogynist no matter their politics or sex.

Update: The other McCain get it on the Misogyny bit:

Please remind me of this video, next time a feminist calls me a misogynist.

And he fights!

Does anyone remember the movie Mr. Smith Goes to Washington?

When Jeff Smith started his filibuster (this was in the days before the 60 vote rule) all the information getting to his town was from the Taylor machine. This meant that the average people only heard about a young upstart making charges against the well respected “Silver Knight” Joe Paine.

Eventually however when Smith’s boy rangers support him in their newspaper Boys life, the reality of the Taylor machine comes out in the violence against the children to suppress the paper. It caused people to realize something was wrong.

Over the last few months several things have happened that might be an indication that several sleeping giants might be coming together.

Item: The White House Attacks on Rush Limbaugh bring attention to him to the point cumulative in his speech at CPAC. The speech is televised not only on Fox, but on CNN exposing him to an audience that only knew his as a caricature of what he actually is. His audience has not only increased but he finds himself in other public panels where people actually have to deal with what he says rather than what other people say he does.

Item: Rick Santelli gives this rant online:

The Whitehouse and the media go after this guy, but his suggestion of Tea parties lead to hundreds of thousands of locally organized people in hundreds of cities all over the country protesting the government, notably without violence or property destruction. The media dismissed or insulted them with oral sex jokes. The Boston Globe didn’t even cover Boston’s. And yesterday the president who pretended he didn’t know about them attacked as hundreds protested in St. Louis where he was speaking.

There are now 500+ cities preparing to host teaparties on July 4th.

Item: The Culmination of Doug Kemic’s and friends attempts to shoehorn president Obama positions into Catholic acceptability comes as Notre Dame Invites him to not only give the commencement speech but to receive an honorary degree. The somehow unexpected scandal results in 350,000 people signing the petition protesting this. It becomes a cause celeb among believing Catholics, dozens of Bishops publicly come out against Fr. Jenkins’ position and his twisted logic on why the ultimate pro abortion president is an acceptable speaker at the most famous catholic institution in the nation. Finally Mary Ann Glendon, one of the most respected lay people in the American Church declines the Laetare Medal and attendance at the ceremony highlighting the moral choice for Catholics by example as the president finds the abortion question is still above his pay grade.

Item: Beauty pageants are kinda passe but A gay celebrity blogger chooses to inject politics into a question at the Miss USA pageant.

Miss Carrie Prejean echos the president’s position and loses. Hilton attacks her both on his blog and calls her a Cu** on MSNBC live (Norah O’Donnell notably not objecting). Miss Prejean stands by her opinions and offers pity and prayers for him. The media dives into the story. Suddenly Miss. Prejean’s is the face of traditional marriage and Perez Hilton is the face of Gay Marriage. Prejean comes out the winner and Miss USA becomes the 1919 Cincinnati Reds?

Item: A nice sunny day in New York is suddenly shaken by a low flying jet circling near NY buildings. People stream out paniced only to find out later that day that it was all a White House photo opt. Millions of New Yorkers who voted for president Obama are suddenly reminded of one of the worst day of their lives and even Olberman gets it.

I wrote on each of these events over the last few months, individually they are mistakes and oddities, combined in the first 100 days of an administration with a declining economy and now 60 votes it becomes a galvanizing and uniting force.

If the democrats are not worried they should be.

Update:
I’m listening to Rush Limbaugh today and I’m hearing the same general idea that now is the time to strike. If that’s not an endorsement of an idea I’d like to know what is.

Update 2: Noticed I forgot to bold some items corrected. And it just hit me it will be very interesting when the president visits the Pope in July post ND. Particularly since he is still without a Vatican ambassador.

Update 3: Bill Whittle figured this out on November 6th:

So consider this, my fellows in arms:

On Tuesday, the Left – armed with the most attractive, eloquent, young, hip and charismatic candidate I have seen with my adult eyes, a candidate shielded by a media so overtly that it can never be such a shield again, who appeared after eight years of an historically unpopular President, in the midst of two undefended wars and at the time of the worst financial crisis since the Depression and whose praises were sung by every movie, television and musical icon without pause or challenge for 20 months… who ran against the oldest nominee in the country’s history, against a campaign rent with internal disarray and determined not to attack in the one area where attack could have succeeded, and who was out-spent no less than seven-to-one in a cycle where not a single debate question was unfavorable to his opponent – that historic victory, that perfect storm of opportunity…

Yielded a result of 53%

Folks, we are going to lick these people out of their boots.

There is much to do. That a man with such overt Marxist ideas and such a history of association with virulent anti-Americans can be elected President should make it crystal clear to each of us just how far we have let fall the moral tone of this Republic. The great lesson from Ronald Reagan was simply that we can and must gently educate as well as campaign, and explain our ideas with smiles on our faces and real joy in our hearts. For unlike the far-left radical who gained the Presidency on Tuesday, we start with 150 million of the most free and intelligent and hard-working people in the history of the Earth at our backs, with a philosophy that — unlike theirs, which has resulted in 100 million dead in unmarked graves — has liberated and enriched more people and created more joy than any nation or combination of nations in our history.

How can we lose this greater fight, my friends? How can we lose, unless we give up?(emphasis mine)

Update 4: This would have been item 6 if I had not been in bed when it happened. In fairness it is only an item because of the timing but it happening within 90 days of item 1-5 makes it more significant.
