One of the reasons why the Catholic Church has a 3 year readings cycle for Sunday Masses and a two year reading cycle for daily Masses is that you have to speak and repeat things for them to sink in.

Likewise you have to state the obvious aloud a few times for people to acknowledge it. It’s not enough that “everybody knows” it, it’s that people are unafraid to say the truth right in front of them.

National review did this when opining on the Iranian attempts to murder President Donald Trump noting:

Yes, well, we can reasonably infer that Tehran has a horse in this race insofar as it is trying to kill one of the candidates. And no one, including the Post’s reporters, disputes Western intelligence and security agencies’ assessment that Iran’s motive is vengeance for the 2020 strike on its IRGC commander. Moreover, the report makes note of the corroborating evidence that Iran is implicated in multiple hacks of Trump campaign email accounts, in which its agents absconded with campaign secrets and retailed them to both U.S. media outlets and the Biden campaign itself. A rather lopsided pattern has emerged.

Or as John Sexton put it:

if there are two candidates and Iran is trying to kill one of them, that would seem to indicate a clear preference in the race.

This would be the same Iran who is aiding Russia in their war against Ukraine.

Now think about this for a second. If you are Putin and you think that Trump is the favorable candidate, wouldn’t you be putting pressure on Iran to leave him alone, or wouldn’t you instead be putting pressure on them to try to knock off Harris? I mean if Harris winning means we’re all in on Ukraine wouldn’t the Russians want to stop that?

In politics and real life look at what people do rather than their rhetoric. The actions of Iran and Russia and China for that matter tell us who our enemies want to see in the White House and that someone is Kamala Harris. They also tell us who they want to see in the grave and that person is Donald Trump.

It speaks volumes as to what the left has become that so many leftists want that as well.

Clarification: When I mentioned not paying attention to a candidate’s “rhetoric” I was being kind to Vice President Harris as it would be a huge stretch to elevate the standard Harris word salad anywhere near to the level of “rhetoric”.

The first in a series of occasional posts on forgotten movies that you should watch.

When you think of the names of Humphrey Bogart , Peter Lorie and Conrad Veidt in a motion picture naturally the classic movie Casablanca (1942) is the first picture that comes to mind and rightfully so as it is one of the greatest movies of all time. However if you go back to the beginning of that year, you will find another movie where the three of them appear that is worth your time to see. All Through the Night

Bogart plays “Gloves” Donahue who in addition to fixing bets and various swindle is known for his love of cheesecake and not just cheesecake but Miller’s Cheesecake. So when Mr. Miller disappears and turns up dead and a strange alluring woman (Karen Verne) turns up and disappears shortly afterward looking for him Donahue finds himself on a 24 romp that cumulates in murder, manhunts and finally reveals a Nazi 5th column in the heart of NY run by a man named Ebbing (Veidt) assisted by aides Pepi (Lorie) and Madame (Dame Judith Anderson).

The movie moves quickly and features a who’s who of soon to be comedy greats from William Demarest (his Lieutenant) to Jackie Gleason (one of his men) to Phil Silvers (The waiter) ably assisted by Frank McHugh whose attempt to enjoy his wedding night are stymied at every turn and Jane Darwell one of the grand dames of Hollywood who plays Bogart’s character’s mother who constantly has a feeling about things.

They’re plenty of fun, chases and suspense with a fair amount of danger thrown in. The writing is crisp and acting is strong and the one liners are very solid.

This is a movie that deserves to be watched and enjoyed by more people. I suggest you become one of them.

Another Reality Check in Gaza and Lebanon

Posted: September 23, 2024 by datechguy in Uncategorized

With all that’s going on in the north people have ignored Gaza but still insist there is “genocide” and “starvation” going on.

Alas reality tells a different story as a fellow goes into gaza and finds out just how much food you can buy for $10.

For some reason the system will not allow me to embed this tweet so I’ve got the link here

Apparently inflation isn’t as bad in Gaza as it is here.

Meanwhile we keep being told that Israel is attacking civilians, however…

I’m sure it’s just leftover from the 4th of July.

One of the reasons why I think that Baseball is the greatest game ever invented is that the unexpected is constantly happening and you can’t run out a clock to win.

A month ago the Detroit Tigers were pretty much out of the playoff race, now with only a dozen games left they go into today 1/2 game out of the final wild card and if the scores of their current game and the Redsox Twins game 1 holds they will hold the final wild card spot alone with six games to go, at least until game 2 of the Sox/Twins double header.

You could have made a fortune betting on the Tigers doing that. Of course hopefully we won’t find out that some mafia guy did make such a bet 40 days ago.

BTW as I was typing this the Orioles scored to tie their game with Detroit. Like I said baseball you never know in baseball.

The Tigers sudden winning ways are bad news for the Twins and perhaps bad news for the Orioles and Yanks as you never want to face a team that’s red hot, but it’s even worse news for the hapless Chicago White Sox.

As I noted a while back the pale hose need to get to 41 wins to avoid being the worst team in history since the formation of the American League. As of today they are 36-119 meaning they need to win 5 of their final seven games to avoid infamy.

A month ago they had one hope while today’s game vs the Padres was against a team in the thick of the playoff battle their final six games were against teams completely out of it.

Alas this is no longer the case. While the Angels remain as out of it as you can get their final three are against a Detroit team that will need every win they can get to pass the twins and hold off the Mariners.

Only the Twins and Mariners regret this situation as much.

I’m old enough to remember when Beverly Hills was a place that was pretty safe and Axel Foley of Detroit would be out of place there.

Apparently not anymore

I guess the Lego cops joke from the new movie wouldn’t work anymore.

Hey I guess the Hollywood Left is getting what they voted for.

You know the problem with left’s narratives is that when confronted with reality they don’t stand up.

A great example of this is shown in this exchange with Megyn Kelly on a panel talking about “convictions” in civil cases.

How many people hearing that first argument on a CNN or MSNBC without pushback bought it?

I suspect a few leftists at least.

Finally there are plenty of casualties in California’s war on business employees at Chipotle are now one more

Chipotle has introduced two robots that can take over tasks normally done by its workerThe ‘autocado’ can peel, stone and cut an avocado for guacamole in 26 seconds.

Meanwhile, a ‘digital makeline’ portions up salads and bowls based on orders on the app.

The machines are part of an automation drive that Chipotle bosses hope will cut down the number of workers needed – slashing rising labor costs.

So, it is no surprise they are being put to use first in two of the Mexican chain’s restaurants in California, the company announced on Monday.

Recent legislation raised the minimum wage for fast food workers to $20-an-hour in the state.

And these changes won’t be limited to California once economy of scale brings the prices of these machines down.

You can’t repeal the laws of economics
