He didn’t know exactly where or when he was, but the uniforms and countryside gave him a general idea of the time and place.

Nor did he have any clue how he got there, although suddenly traveling thousands of miles away and dozens of years in the past was not unknown to him.

What he did know is what was before him, a group of unarmed men about to be slaughtered. However hesitant he might be to risk altering history he would not stand by and watch without acting.

And so he descended in a streak of red and blue.

The gunner emotionlessly set up his weapon at the end of the car. Those fifty prisoners meant nothing to him. Years under the SS meant the days of being repulsed by such an order were long past.

As he adjusted the ammo belt the sight of the Englishmen’s shock as they grasped their fate didn’t move him. Pulling the trigger & spraying the field produced no more emotion than his morning shave.

But when his eyes fixed on the sight of all his spent rounds on the ground before a pair of red boots that brought him emotion, raw fear.

As he raised his head to see that death for him and all with him was moments away, Squadron Leader Bartlett remembered his dismissal of the words of Group Captain Ramsey on the difference between the Gestapo, SS and Luffwaffe.

He was well acquainted with death being at his shoulder and understood that in this escape death held all the best cards, but in that last moment he was surprised that the idea of them all being shot in cold blood after capture still shocked him.

But not as surprised as he was to find it wasn’t the last moment.

“Will there be any other side effects?” asked Amy.

“Well you know” said the Doctor readjusting his Bowtie then reaching for a new Fez, “It’s a universal reboot there’s bound to be a few minor changes.”

“Minor Changes?”

“Little things Rory”, he continued circling his console & flipping switches. “A massacre averted here, a failed Dalek invasion there, the odd Traken Union not being destroyed by an entropy field, you know tiny inconsequential things.”

Amy Gasped, “Tiny?”

“Given the history of all space & time, yes.” he answered with a grin remembering red velvet.
