I was at a restaurant after the men’s conference and was telling the owner about my adventures during the Scott Brown campaign and CPAC when he introduced me to a reporter/democratic operative who had come to eat with his wife. It was a very interesting experience.

When I was asked to explain the reasons why I thought Martha Coakley lost I started out by reminding him of her abortion flip flop concerning the healthcare bill. The moment I brought that up the gentleman started filibustering saying I had no business voting for Scott Brown since he had flipped on abortion. He would not let me finish my point when he started making “tea bagger” references. I reminded him that this was a vulgar sexual reference, quite inappropriate as he was sitting with his wife in a public restaurant, but he continued to use the reference and then maintained that the Obama joker posters were beyond the pale and other than the odd union sign democrats never acted this way.

As I was in fact born after the invention of the internet and did live through the eight years of the Bush administration I wouldn’t let him get away with that either, saying he could tell that to the marines but not to me. (Even Charles Johnson wouldn’t fall for that). It was astounding, it was the same tone deafness that the Coakley campaign had combined with a touch of the bigotry of the Boston Berkshires and ‘Bama lady.

When the gentleman started to suggest that my mother who left the democratic party this year was “confused” it was definitely time to excuse myself. I game my respects to his embarrassed wife (I felt bad for her, she seemed a nice lady and her reaction to my respects suggested that she had to deal with her husband in this capacity before) and left them to their dinner.

His inability to listen, suggestions that I was not capable of learning or understanding, lack of basic decorum; particularly in front of lady were troubling. Combine this with his attempts to make assertions that were false on their face and frustration when I would not accept them leads me to believe that Coakley’s weaknesses are not unique among democratic circles. If that is the case then the Democratic party in Massachusetts may be in much worse trouble than they know or will acknowledge.

What is the first thing I saw when I got home from the Worcester County Catholic Men’s Conference? An article I couldn’t believe in the sentinel:

Some city councilors said they’re not phased that a Fitchburg resident hired a lawyer to represent him regarding petitions he claims were mishandled by the City Council in February. “Lawyers’ letters don’t scare me,” Councilor-at-large Thomas Conry said Thursday.

Yes the Lawyer letter so didn’t worry him and the other counselors that instead of a 10-1 vote that was used to drop the petitions the entire counsel decided to let the March 16th petition go to the planning board. Update: It was unclear to some readers that I was referring to the March 16th petition advancing, including this edit to make it clear.

And I’m sure that the fact that the other side had legal representation and that Mr. Ciota had a letter from said representation in his possession had nothing to do with his silence at said counsel meeting.

I should make it clear that the article itself is very good. The Sentinel and Enterprise’s coverage has been good. It’s the answers that people are giving that are unbelievable. They go nuts if they hear the word “Planned Parenthood” and they get upset if citizens decide to get representation.

I’m sure the counselors are nice people but not a single one of them where installed in their positions by impressment, unless I’m very much mistaken each person campaigned for election asking the voters for the job. If they don’t want the job they can always resign.

Technically what SteveChris does is a podcast rather than a blog but I thought it was a good fit. This was filmed at his home studio just before I appeared on his podcast to debate/discuss the existence of God.

As soon as the podcast is up I’ll let you know and link to it. We had a pleasant but spirited discussion on God, sin, gay marriage, planned parenthood, why God lets bad things happen and the nature of sin and morality.

If planned parenthood opens in Fitchburg we will be on the opposite sides of the protests but for today we were just two guys talking about philosophy.

Update:
I don’t know where I got “steve” from

…thus does Nancy Pelosi “professed” Catholic misuse the faith. Update: She doesn’t have brass ovaries Joy, she just has no belief. Maybe I should send her a scapular.

I am not as angry as the Anchoress, I actually just spent the last two hours debating in a podcast a lapsed Catholic on the existence of God (more on that later tonight) so this doesn’t hit me so big. I am however wondering how sad St. Joseph must be at the moment.

Nancy just to remind you here is the link to what is required for Mortal sin. I think you’ve managed all three. If you want to know what real Catholics think click here.

I think the proper prayer for her would be the Litany of St. Joseph I’m going to pray it for her after this post goes up. I know it is very tempting to do otherwise but consider. You will not find hell any more bearable if someone you dislike is burning with you.
