As all of you know I’m both a big baseball fan and a huge pinball fan and yesterday I got an offer that I thought I couldn’t refuse.

There is a first rate pinball game called Silver Slugger that was rented for me as a Christmas gift last year. I really enjoyed this game as it combines a standard pinball scoring system with a baseball scoring system (pinball points and runs) I can highly recommend this game to anyone who wants an inexpensive pinball machine. (New Machines generally run between $7-15K)

Well the fellow who rented the machine offered it to me for sale. He understood that I only had a limited area to place a game and said location might have issues with sunlight than can fade machine. This machine had a color scheme that would best be able to handle the location without damage.

Furthermore the price he asked was $300 less than the median current price on Pinside (the pinball market) and because he would be picking up a rental from my son anyways the delivery would not be extra which is huge.

It was an excellent bargain. I had enough to pay for the machine in the mad money that I’ve been putting aside every paycheck for the last year or two and I was debating if DaWife would tolerate a machine at the spot where it would go when the oil delivery truck showed up in front of the house.

So I went outside grab the mail and to get the bill for the 190 gallons of heating oil that the tank took.

$710

Mind you this is the first delivery of the year. During an average heating season I expect to have 3 1/2 more such deliveries turn up at the house over the four or five months. Which means $2500 more in oil bills yet to come.

During the Trump years that same oil bill would have been about $360-$400 at the most meaning I would expect to pay another $1260- $1400 dollars over the course of the heating season.

The difference? That the price of the machine.

Now if it were the Trump years I would be able to use that cash saved for the machine secure in the knowledge that I’d be able to handle any twists and turns that might come up. The only question would be the reaction of DaWife to it being a permanent rather than a temporary addition to the house that my sons might rent for me at Christmas & Birthdays.

But alas Joe Biden is president, everything from groceries to gasoline has skyrocketed and given the inept foreign policy that has enabled our enemies and funded Iran who funds Iran and the turmoil in the middle east I can’t be sure that my next oil bill won’t be a whole lot more by the time I burn through what I have, particularly since domestic energy production which was big in the Trump years, is discouraged now.

Given those facts It would be completely irresponsible for me to spend the money on that machine, much more prudent to hold off in case the side effects of the third Obama Term Biden years get even worse. And of course if we have a fourth Obama term second Biden term it likely won’t be much better.

So as I look longingly at the photo of the machine that I enjoyed so much and email the fellow that I really can’t pull the trigger right now all I can say is:

Thanks Joe Biden.

On my way home from Mass this morning I was listening to lament after another Patriots loss when the sports network switched to a quick news update noting that there was a man who shot someone is an Ocean State Job Lot Department store and was on the lam.

There is however a twist to the story as noted here:

The shooting occurred around noon inside the store, located at 105 Campanelli Industrial Drive (the site of the former Toys R Us), after the victim who was shot allegedly pulled a knife on an employee during an argument, Duarte said.

I object to the use of the word “victim” here as it implies he was some innocent instead of a person who drew a knife on someone.

I think it is very appropriate to shoot someone who pulls a knife on you, Once a person produces a weapon the game changes, it’s no longer an argument it’s life or death and nobody should consent to let themselves be killed or threated with death to appease someone else vision of propriety. Something like this happened to my father in the early 60’s when he and his brother were involved in a fight outnumbered 6-2 with some young punks when one of the six they were routing pulled a knife. Dad warned him to put the knife away promising him that he did he would escape the fight with nothing worse than bruises but if he didn’t it was life and death and he would get badly hurt.

The punk didn’t put away the knife, and while dad didn’t shoot him or use the knife after he disarmed him he did hurt him, badly. There were no legal consequences.

Of course this was the early 60’s when even in Massachusetts a man’s right to self defense was still considered a given. In this case the employee fled the scene perhaps figuring that in 2023 his right to self defense wasn’t a given or given this update.

An employee wanted in connection with a shooting inside an Ocean State Job Lot in Brockton that left a shopper injured over the weekend has surrendered to police, officials announced Monday morning.

The suspect, whose name hasn’t been released, allegedly shot the customer around 12 p.m. Sunday at the store at 105 Campanelli Industrial Drive, according to the Brockton Police Department.

Police said the alleged gunman was taken into custody without incident...

…A Boston 25 source said the employee in question is 18-years-old.

…it’s very possible that being an 18 year old kid he just panicked. Of course it’s also possible that he fled because it might have been an illegal weapon or that he was not legally able to carry a gun. That’s rather likely given his age.

Furthermore as a rule it’s a bad idea to argue with a customer in this way. If a customer becomes belligerent you call for the manager to handle it, that’s what he was there for. You don’t escalate the issue.

But even if he was wrong to argue, and even if the gun was not legal, once the knife came out as far as I’m concerned the 18 year old was quite right to shoot the man. You aren’t obliged to let yourself be killed so that some leftist in Boston can feel better about himself and it’s better to be judged by twelve than to be carried by six.

Either way I find the best way to avoid being shot in self defense is not to produce a weapon and threaten someone life. I suspect this is a lesson the customer in question has learned very well and I suspect it will be a long time before another angry customer decides to produce a weapon in that store.

Closing thought: I suspect that in many US states this story wouldn’t raise an eyebrow and the idea of fleeing would never have occurred to the employee.

“That son of a bitch Castro is sh*ttin’ all over us.” US Immigration officer speaking to Tony Montana (Al Pacino) in the movie Scarface.

And now Nicolás Maduro, Venezuela’s son of a bitch strongman, is defecating on America.

Where is the mainstream media on this story?

In the Chicago area, where I live, the MSM is asleep at the wheel. Chicago’s woke daily newspapers, the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times, the latter laughingly calls itself “the hardest-working newspaper in America,” are the worst violators of committing the sin of omission in regard to media bias.

Television and radio websites here are a bit better, but if you want to get the feel of what the Joe Biden’s migrant crisis has done to the Chicago area, there is only one website to visit, CWB Chicago, which works a heck of a lot harder than the leftist Sun-Times.

Here are some headlines from CWB Chicago from just the last six months:

Let’s move on to the suburbs:

As for those links, while the alleged criminals are all referred to as “migrants,” it’s not always stated in these reports where they are from. That being said, in every case where a nationality is named, every time they are listed as Venezuelan.

Before you call me a racist, bigot, hater, or whatever, I want to make a couple of things clear. I believe that most of the people who Joe Biden all-but-invited into our country who have crossed the Rio Grande have come here with good intentions–mainly to make an honest living.

Most, of course, does not mean all. And some migrants have been the victims of crimes committed by other migrants–or by non-migrants. Yes, I am aware that many migrants in Chicago live in wretched conditions, including inside police stations and at O’Hare Airport.

My ethnic background is Irish. If these were migrants from Ireland or my wife’s native Latvia–instead of Venezuela or wherever–I’d still be reporting on the resulting crime wave.

That being said, this migrant crime wave, which of course is not limited to the Chicago area, seems to be driven by recently arrived Venezuelan migrants.

Joe Biden and the Democrats have waved in millions of people into America who we know little about, including many criminals.

The Biden Wave needs to stop.

As for these crooked migrants, they need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, which in Cook County, Illinois, may often be just a slap on the wrist. If found guilty, they should be turned over to ICE officials and put on the fast track for deportation.

These migrants are guests in America.

One more thing: Build the wall.

Although the White House denies it, there have been reports that Joe Biden has told Israel to delay its expected invasion of Gaza.

The speculation is that Biden wants the Hamas terrorists to release the estimated 200 hostages, some of whom are Americans, beforehand.

My belief is that Biden is instead trying to placate the old school, pro-Israel wing of the Democrat Party, which can trace its founding to 1948, the year of Israel’s founding, and the woke, pro-Palestianian, and yes, pro-Hamas wing of the Democrats. Think of Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) as the face of the old guard and think of US Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), of the Squad, as the face of the new wing.

Can Biden–or more accurately, his handlers–pull it off?

For now, yes.

But the longer what I’m calling a “warm war” between Israel and Hamas continues, the more likely Jews will question why they support the Democrats. Oh, before October 7, there was cold war between Israel and Hamas, once the invasion of Gaza starts, then that will be a hot war.

The daily protests in support of Palestine/Hamas, populated by wokesters and Palestianian-Americans who equate Israel with Nazis, must eat at the heart of most Jewish people.

Most American Jews of course are Democrats, for a lot of reasons, but the primary one, in my opinion, is that as a discriminated people, Jews feel they should stand up for other marginalized groups. Party affiliation for the politically engaged–and Jewish people usually are–is not something that is easily shed. Much like religion.

For instance, my parents, Irish Catholic Democrats, despite their disgust with what was called “the New Left” in the 1960s–I now call that movement the proto-woke–took a decade to switch their political affiliation. Jimmy Carter of course hastened their transition, as it did for so many other Dems.

The false Zionists-are-Nazis drumbeat is a daily rhythm. Ten more weeks–well short of a decade–of this hatred might be too much to bear for many Jews.

Jewish people are generous donors to the Democrats and other liberal groups. At roughly 2.5 percent of the US population–which is concentrated mostly in Blue States–we are not about to see a lasting Republican majority if there is a rightward shift among Jews. But some reliably-Democrat House seats in states like New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and even California might become swing districts.

A few years ago, Little Marathon Pundit had a Jewish boyfriend. You name the woke cause, and he supported it. I asked her to see how “Sam” felt about the growing anti-Semitism within the Democratic Party. Sam told her it was “troubling.” Jewish Democrats I know have had similar trepidations for years.

But now there is a daily two-hour-hate parade in many large American cities against Israel, and yes, Jews. As well as daily anti-Jewish memes poisoning social media, many from celebrities.

The parades and the meme frenzy will wind down once the Israel-Hamas war is over; hopefully that conflict will end with a resounding victory for the IDF.

Afterwards, we may see a different Jewish electorate.
