Starting with the Obama situation

6:02 a.m. The topic is the photos and Obama

6:04 a.m. Barnicle: It’s good that he listens to the generals on this one instead of the polls.

6:06 a.m. Willie wasn’t invited? Must have been because he voted for Miss California.

6:08 a.m. That is a very classy line by the president. Very well said.

6:14 a.m. “I pulled something but not a string.” Mika’s head is on the desk Joe turned around and Willie walked away so Barnicle had to do the next bit. That moment was worth being up this early.

6:20 a.m. You know the idea that this is to protect democratic pols didn’t hit me at all.

6:24 a.m. Take Obama away from the Democratic party and they are weak. Everyone agrees. I guess Mrs. Clinton star has truly fallen.

6:30 a.m. Market down unexpectedly. Is it?

6:33 a.m. What parent would put their child on the local airline after this?

6:39 a.m. We will leave it there on the joke.

6:41 a.m. Until someone else steps up Rush is it, that’s true but I think that Rush is right and the more people who actually hear him will agree, but then again I think the best voice I heard was on morning joe two days ago.

6:43 a.m There was not one tea party when George Bush was president. Harold never heard of Porkbusters or saw the graph. As Glenn pointed out there was a protest, it was the elections of 2006 & 2008 when conservatives stayed home.

6:57 a.m. Put your phone on vibrate, Barnicle is not allowed to comment. That was funny and Gibbs is right.

6:59 a.m. Did anyone else notice Barnicle’s hand was under the table during the entire Maxim 100 segment?

7:02 a.m. They do a lot of fund raisers don’t they?

7:06 a.m. This will all come out. Joe was right about the democrats on this and he is right about this.

7:07 a.m. Harold Ford is right again. Joe is right, he would make an acceptable moderate republican.

7:09 a.m. Joe I like you but you aren’t a Catholic, Barnicle is and should know better.

7:10 a.m. This isn’t a speech code, he is being given a honorary degree at a CATHOLIC university when he is radically pro abortion. That is contrary to our beliefs.

7:11 a.m. You know if I’d been tailing this guy for 40 min i might have lost it up front too.

7:13 a.m. Mark my words it will be AFTER the Notre Dame speech. His appointment is going to be a kick in the teeth to ND.

7:14 a.m. Harold and Joe make a good point but that is because like slavery Abortion is a seminal issue of good vs evil. It can’t help but be the point.

7:16 a.m. This all sounds nice but the job of a judge is to read the law and rule based on what it says. Not on what their life experience gives them. They are umpires. Their job is to apply the rules.

7:18 a.m. I think Richard Hass is exactly wrong on these issues. I predict before he actually comes on his arguments will the opposite of what is correct.

7:32 a.m. Jed Babbin on Morning Joe?

7:39 a.m. He points out that Powell ran out on his own and points out his bs on the Plame scandal.

7:47 a.m. It is a lot more complicated when it is your stuff. It’s a question of protecting troops in Afghanistan. Hass proves me wrong right away. Good for him!

7:48 a.m. There is nothing more satisfying than being proved wrong when you think ill of people’s opinion, I hope president Obama proves me wrong a lot.

8:06 a.m. You know that Savannah is a real good sport. The time will come when she can take over Mika’s chair. Mika better watch out.

8:22 a.m. You can say things on this show but you will be accurately represented.

8:26 a.m. Ad Hoc decisions?

8:37 a.m. The great morning joe Wars are on. MSNBC vs CNBC

8:38 a.m. This is a lot of fun, but relative to the other Joe he is liberal.

8:40 a.m. You are copying CNBC you have 6 boxes up.

8:42 a.m. And these guys are talking about the big tent that the republicans need?

8:48 a.m. Monica Pelosi. Barnicle is off the hook.

Like Mika I’m starting to get Miss Californiaed out but the Anchoress makes a point that is worth quoting:

Let this be a lesson to young ladies everywhere, but especially young ladies who profess Christ; if you’re going to take off your top for a camera, be prepared (sooner or later) to have to answer for it, both in this world, and the next. But in this world, the chances are you will have to defend your nudity against the jeers, sneers and fake prudery of those “open-minded” folks who would never, for an instant, tolerate anyone telling them what they should or should not do with their own bodies, but will crucify you for the choices you made with your own. You’ll have to answer for it because when you profess yourself a Christian, you choose exile, and you will be held to a different standard, entirely, than the world’s.

And that is not a bad thing, but you girls must think about that.

In the next world, of course, you’ll have to answer to Christ, himself, who is much more merciful than the rest of us. He will likely ask you why you threw your pearls before swine.

He may gently ask you if you realized at the time that your actions could lead others into sin, by helping them to treat another human being (you) as a “thing”.

And I can tell you from personal experience: that is one awful question to have to contemplate and answer.

This is the cellphone internet business squared.

Morning Joe Cheney Cheney Cheney

It’s all Dick Cheney all the time.

6:47 a.m. Apparently Gore going after Bush is different than Cheney answering questions when asked.

6:48 a.m. The president sees political advantage to this so will continue.

6:58 a.m. Willie scores the interview and a kiss.

7:00 a.m. She mentions that people of all ages should have the courage to stand up for what they believe in.

7:01 a.m. Let’s be honest she was attacked for saying something that the PRESS disagreed with. Willie nailed it.

7:03 a.m. They are riding this, but Mika is trying to ask an actual question and they are skipping her. The serious question she asked yesterday is being ignored.

7:04 a.m. Boy that cartoon is no more true then it is right now.

7:06 a.m. They still haven’t mentioned the Pope’s walk out (or the Israeli objections to his speech).

7:08 a.m. They are getting serious now concerning those aircraft transcripts. Heilman blames deregulation. Apparently it is republicans fault that these guys are dead.

7:10 a.m. They are getting very heavy and are looking to getting an air expert on.

7:11 a.m. Savannah Guthre on the supreme court issue. There is no list that has all the contenders.

7:13 a.m. The Commencement is at ASU is today.

7:14 a.m. A TAD BIT CONTROVERSIAL? Notre Dame is a tad bit controversial?

7:15 a.m. They look for a plane expert and presto, this is one of the reasons why this show is excellent, they say lets get someone who can answer this question and they call and get them at once. Tom Costello, totally unscheduled.

7:16 a.m. The 24 year girl had more hours than the Captain?!! That’s news. Apparently it wasn’t the young girl it was the captain who blew it on the stall.

7:24 a.m. Susie Welch is 5th on the book list, but they don’t talk to the #1 guys. It’s some unknown named Levin.

7:28 a.m. It is a fake story, Susie says they need a fake story.

7:30 a.m. The real story was the suppression of the left.

7:38 a.m. Cramer says Spitzer is full of it. I think the idea it to try to rehabilitate him.

7:40 a.m. All the mortgage brokers are nailed. I haven’t heard Geithner being complemented before

7:41 a.m. The responsible guys are going up and the bad guys are sinking says Cramer. Now is the time to buy homes he says. He is putting his own money where is mouth is. I think he is right. There are houses near me that are selling for under 50k. It’s a semi tough neighborhood but some are as low as 25k and this ain’t Detroit.

7:51 a.m. All about the Death of Bear Stearns.

7:52 a.m. Chris Buckley wouldn’t be on if A: he hadn’t voted Obama, and B: wrote that his late father would have voted for him. Far be it from me to say I know his father better than him, but I’m not buying that bridge.

8:01 a.m. Willie’s segment proves that a lot of people actually have a life.

8:04 a.m. Oh it was a political appointment it’s been bad for 6 years, so it is according to Schumer; BUSH’s fault of course. That might be a little unfair of me since he didn’t come out and say it.

8:18 a.m. Why did you write the book? It’s cheaper than therapy.

8:26 a.m Boy Buckley sure surprised me, just goes to show you shouldn’t judge someone by their worst decision.

8:30 a.m. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Mika is a very handsome woman who has looks, brains and integrity. (She is also good at the stick that they do).

8:32 a.m. Joe very quietly slipped in something significant. “Thanks for letting us do what we want to do.” At MSNBC to not be part of the Niche this is important. That’s why it is on every day here. It needs to be encouraged.

8:33 a.m. Ah the great George Soros, that explains Zucker’s appearance, Stewart and MSNBC at a Soros charitable function. That doesn’t diminish the charity or the good thing about the donation.

8:35 a.m. One little tweak on this, they talked about stars donating time, when Rush Limbaugh holds his annual fundraiser he doesn’t just give his time, he puts up 50k of his own to start.

8:39 a.m. Watching Copper is smart.

8:39 a.m. Short line traffic is a good indicator too, smart statement Joe.

8:50 a.m. Apparently Stan McCrystal took down the bad guys in Iraq

Donald Trump surprises me

By the look of things on MSNBC it looks like he blindsided the Miss California pageant people who were expecting something different. Looking at this article from yesterday they were practically salivating at what was to come. Look at yesterday’s press conference:

Does this look like a group of people preparing to lose?

Trump however pointed out that her position was the same as the president as did Miss California after him. The scolding of the media was classic.

It’s nice to know that I can be pleasantly surprised.

Rush points out that they have asked Miss California tougher questions on the issues than they have the president.

Update: The other McCain has pictures and likely a lot more hits than me:

Attaboy, Donald! Imagine that: A guy who thinks a beauty contest ought to be about. . . beauty.

Update 2: Added yesterday’s press conference and commentary will add today’s when I can find it.

Update 3: Can I Vomit right now? HAH! Rush is running with this big.

Update 4: The CNN video didn’t take so here is the link to Hotair that has it.

Update 5: Doug Powers:

I love how Trump used the “progressive” argument to justify his decision to those who claim to be progressives.

It’s actually more than that, the supporters of Gay Marriage have created the perfect spokesperson. It will be a decision they will regret for years.

Update 6: James notices that this controversy has brought at least two people together:

Note: Mom and Dad sat side by side at today’s press conference

Remember they had a very nasty divorce.

Meanwhile Across the Pond has a different view:

Should we be surprised that she doesn’t know what free speech means? That it doesn’t mean that you can say whatever you want wherever you want with no consequences?

Apparently not. She didn’t realize that when she gave an answer that the majority of people in her state, in her country and in the world would agree with, an answer that a mere 10 years ago would be considered the most normal thing in the world, she would be would be vilified attacked and derided by media elites.

But her opponents also didn’t realize that their speech would make her world famous and turn the winner of the Miss USA pageant into the 1919 Cincinnati Reds.

The port stands at your elbow; types something he thought he never would:

Well done, Donald Trump!

The Christian conservative agrees:

I’m not particularly a fan of Donald Trump, but he really shined in his decision to allow Carrie Prejean to retain her crown as Miss California.

It will be interesting to see where she is in a year.

Update 7: Perhaps the people who were so busy worrying about stopping Miss California might worry about the systematic slaughter of gays in Iraq instead? I’d say that was a bigger issue. I wonder if MSNBC and the CBS early show will give that issue the same attention they have given this one? Added R.S. McCain’s quote as well. And is anyone going to ask Mika’s question?

Update 8: Here are the Youtube videos:

and gateway pundit is unimpressed with the Huffpost folks but the most interesting comment is from Big Hollywood about why the president gets a pass:

“Obama. Gay marriage?”

“Robert, don’t be so naive. We all know Obama’s lying through his teeth.”

“About gay marriage?”

“That and being,” he claws quote marks in the air, “a good Christian. Listen, Obama’s a Christian like I’m a Hasid.”

I am floored.

“You’re saying that Democrats assume Obama is lying for political expediency?”

“To get elected, sure. Hey, welcome to the real world.”

I take a deep breath.

“So Cary Prejean is a big fat target—”

“Not fat, my friend, did you see that slamming body?”

“Okay, so she’s a slamming beautiful target because she’s a genuine Christian and sincerely opposes gay marriage whereas Obama gets a pass because, you assume, he’s a liar and an opportunist.”

“You got it.”

“This is okay with you?”

“He got elected didn’t he,

Pretty sad isn’t it?

Update 9: Welcome readers of the Other McCain. I would have greeted you earlier but this is Tuesday which means game night with my old pals from College and high School. Take a peek around. See Dick Cheney’s daughter kick ass outnumbered 3-1 on MSNBC. See both Israeli’s and Arabs upset with the pope. Learn what two generations can do to a republic, get reviews of Doctor Who audios. Get a sample of an entertaining book for conservatives and see how my wife is smarter than Nancy Pelosi.

Final update: The Anchoress gets the last word
