16 guests so far in the first hour. The ribs are nearly gone as is 1/4 of the 1st Lasagna.

Plenty of people coming, I don’t know how many are long term or short term, for the first time ever my mother isn’t the first one there.

4:45 p.m. 36 people and about 8 have left Need at least another dozen or so.

5:49 p.m. Lasagna #1 is gone, All the ribs are gone, Batch #2 of wings is about to come out of the oven and the Trifle is nearly finished. 39 People and the evening home stretch crowd has not arrived, about 15 have left but there are people in every room and things show no sign of slowing down!

6:23 p.m Last batch of wings is out 41 people and the wine is coming out more.

7:38 p.m. 43 and my son is picking up two more friends at least, the crash rule might be going into effect.

8:34 p.m. The third wave is here, we are up to 50. All that is left for food is 1/2 a Lasagna and about a dozen wings, the veggies and salad are nearly done too, however we have more beer than we started with. weather and illness has robbed us of a lot of people but at least 35% of the crowd is here for the first time! If the crowd continues to grow we may actually need to call for Pizza!

9:32 p.m. 4 Large pizza’s added to the stack of food party still cranking.

11:00 p.m. #51 just showed up, new record. There are an inordinate amount of teenagers here, apparently their parents know that they won’t be given booze here.

11:34 p.m. The last adult has left, there are still 3-5 college age teenagers upstairs playing pinball we are cleaning up what we can downstairs. I’m not betting on any new arrivals. It appears nobody will win this years’ readers prize which was an Amazon gift card.

12:06 p.m. The last two guests have left. Total for the evening 51 guests over the course of 10 hours. Until 10:30 or so we never had less than 10 guests in the house at any time. If it wasn’t for the storm and some sickness I think we would have managed 70.

Quick party update…

All the cleaning is done, the 1st Lasagna is about to hit the oven, a batch of wings should be just about done and the sander just passed the street.

The only complications are my mother and aunt. My mother is better but not driving today so my nephew will be bringing her. I will be leaving to pick up my 88 year old aunt as soon as this post is up, I should make it back just in time for the start.

One cancellation Andy from the Right Wing Gaming Room as he is right in the center of the Storm.

My wife’s friend Rose will also miss it but she is in the hospital with Pneumonia. That’s a pretty good excuse.

Joe from the baseball league will be here with his daughters but his son is on his second tour in Iraq so he is excused too.

Steve and family is in Pa so he’s also out.

We will see how it all turns out, I only counted 39-43 last year the wife insists we had 50 so we will see what this year’s count is.

My neighbors confound Fr. Feeney

Back in the 40’s and 50’s the Catholic Church in Boston was plagued with scandal, but of a much different nature that the recent ones.

A priest named Fr. Leonard Feeney was teaching that only Catholics could be saved. This was and is in direct contradiction to Catholic teaching. He spread these teachings through the St. Benedict’s Center.

The Church took action in 1949 to suppress this doctrine and finally after repeated attempts to get him to recant excommunicated him in 1953.

And that round about method brings us to my Jehovah Witness neighbors across the street.

Before I could even offer to help they had not only cleared their front but with a snowblower and a shovel started to clear mine. Within 5 minutes the three of us had the front all done.

When I came back from the wings I was shocked to see that my driveway (which is on another street our property is an “L” was ALSO snowblowed including a path all the way to my back stairs and door.

This is on a day when they have a million things to do, and this behavior is so typical of them that I can’t even express it.

Theologically their doctrines are not sound but I’ll tell you this, they have the basics, love of God and love of neighbor down pat.

Fr. Feeney would not have cared for them, but I’ve got to say God has blessed them.

For a clearer understanding of the points that refute Feeney see the Catechism of the Church on Baptism here and on Mortal sin here.

Had to run a batch of raw wings to a friends house where they will be cooking them (brown sugar recipe). Much to my shock the main roads are all clear and the secondary roads are all done excellently.

That doesn’t sound like Fitchburg to me but I’ll take it.

A promising sign!
