No, not that Fisherman. The other one.

The power to tax is the power to destroy.

–Daniel Webster, et al.

The 36th president of the United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson, is infamous for many things.

Most domestically notable are two programs: the Great Society and Medicare. Both programs can arguably be viewed as bait to Americans. Bait for what? Luring the poor into government dependence, luring the elderly into the same, and luring the descendants of all into catastrophic debt. This debt applies both individually and nationally.

However, I was fascinated to discover that these programs were not LBJ’s first forays into hooking groups into government control. At The Federalist, Leslie Loftis notes that his first target was the church.

When the federal tax code was written, that the government couldn’t tax churches was assumed. For one, at the beginning of the union, only the federal government was prohibited from establishing a religion. The state governments could and did establish churches. They didn’t tax churches, but collected taxes for the church. This stopped after the Civil War and the ratification and subsequent case law of the Fourteenth Amendment incorporated the federal proscription against an established religion to the individual states.

[snip]

Essentially, churches have complied with the exemption requirements of the tax code rather than asserting the right to be free from taxation.

[snip]

To punish and prevent political opponents [including churches] from speaking out against him, [in 1954] then-Sen. Lyndon Johnson, who was in a contentious re-election campaign, pushed through an amendment to the tax code which prohibits “political activity” by 501(c)(3) entities. It is called the Johnson Amendment. Since the prohibition passed, it has only been lightly—and selectively—enforced.

Loftis points to bi-partisan examples of this selective enforcement, but notes that

[m]ost churches, however, tend to err on the side of caution lest the IRS decide to prosecute, either on a whim or as part of a larger political intimidation program much like the one they have run in the past few years against conservative secular organizations.

In other words, due to LBJ’s little trap, most churches yield to fear and/or love of money.

Oh and Loftis also notes that the IRS is the process of composing new guidelines for political activity by tax-exempt religious organizations and churches at the the legal behest of the Freedom From Religion Foundation(!) Aren’t all we Jesus freaks, Bible-thumpers and bitter-clingers looking forward to the passage of such regulations so that we can find out what’s in them?

Back to LBJ. We have had several problematic presidents and the current one seems like the biggest one. But he and his ideological siblings who sit in political office at all levels of government–like Houston Mayor Annise Parker–can look to the politicians of the past and thank them for laying the foundations of tyranny by luring an intentionally under-educated populace into assenting to it.

Politicians like LBJ: Dixiecrat, Reenslaver of black Americans, and Persecutor of the Church.

Quite a legacy, don’t you think?

Marco Rubio was not the only Republican at the Rockingham GOP event.

last friday and several candidates for various offices talked to me.

I spoke to Col Gary Lambert who is running in the 2nd District:

Gary is a strong 2nd amendment fellow.

Several candidates for the GOP nomination for the US senate were there, I spoke to Jim Rubens:

and the candidate I have endorsed in the race Karen Testerman

Senator Brown was friendly but passed on an interview (his wife actually didn’t recognize me, I don’t get that too often, but in fairness I wasn’t wearing the scarf when I covered the Brown Campaign & I shaved my gray beard this week.

I also got a few minutes with former Governor & Whitehouse Chief of Staff under the 1st George Bush John Sununu

He pinch hit for Kelly Ayotte whose plane was delayed keeping her from the event, and he had one of the lines of the night when he talked about the election of Ronald Reagan:

We had a president almost as bad as we have now.

That is the real accomplishment of Barack Obama, he has managed to in the eyes of many surpass Jimmy Carter as the worst president in our lifetimes.

If only we had a president like this fellow

Even at his age I’d take him over who we have.

11th Doctor:  (Showing Psychic paper to young Kazran)  I think you’ll find I’m universally recognised as a mature and responsible adult.

Young Kazran Sardic: (confused)  It’s just a lot of wavy lines.

11th Doctor: (looking at psychic paper) Yeah, it’s shorted out. Finally, a lie too big.

Doctor Who, A Christmas Carol 2010

It’s axiomatic that sex sells so when you combine the words: “Private Island”, “Lawsuit” & “Orgies” you have a story that normally is guaranteed viral:

Tales of orgies and young girls being shipped to the island, called Little St. James, have been revealed as part of an ongoing lawsuit between Epstein and his former lawyers Scott Rothstein and Bradley Edwards.

Young girls shipped to a private island for sex that’s gotta be worth headlines.

It is unclear what the basis of the suit is, but they go on to call witness testimony from some of the frequent guests at Epstein’s island to talk about the wild parties that were held there in the early 2000s.

The woman went on to say how orgies were a regular occurrence and she recalled two young girls from New York who were always seen around the five-house compound but their personal backstories were never revealed.

Given that kind of stuff one might wonder why this story involving Jeffrey Epstein, who was already jailed once for sex crimes got no traction last month? It’s just the type of thing to draw eyeballs. What could possibly cause the mainstream to give this story a pass?

A new lawsuit has revealed the extent of former President Clinton’s friendship with a fundraiser who was later jailed for having sex with an underage prostitute. Bill Clinton’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, who served time in 2008 for his illegal sexual partners, included up multiple trips to the onetime billionaire’s private island in the Caribbean where underage girls were allegedly kept as sex slaves. . . .

Did someone say Bill Clinton?

Flight logs pinpoint Clinton’s trips on Epstein’s jet between the years 2002 and 2005, while he was working on his philanthropic post-presidential career and while his wife Hillary was a Senator for their adopted state of New York.  ‘I remember asking Jeffrey what’s Bill Clinton doing here kind fo thing, and he laughed it off and said well he owes me a favor,’ one unidentified woman said in the lawsuit, which was filed in Palm Beach Circuit Court.

Oh that explains why the only place I saw it was at Stacy McCain site last month.

If there is one thing the media that loves to play the War on Women® card doesn’t want to touch it’s a story about people using their own private island to get laid that involves Bill Clinton.

What could the media do if this story involving the former father of the year? They would call it old news, not relevant, dirty tricks from a salacious lawsuit that doesn’t even involve him and an attack on Hillary that crosses the line. In fact the left will deploy a plethora of adjectives to discourage further discussion of this story from antiquated to zany, but there is one adjective that could not come out of their mouth to dismiss this story:

Unbelievable

The last few years have proven that the left can convince a low information voter of a lot of things, but even the full power of the mainstream media and the strongest zealots from the War on Women® brigade would not be able to convince the American public that Bill Clinton would have no interest or business on a private island where orgies took place.

That’s why you didn’t see this story in the news last month and why as the case moves forward you’ll not see it covered period.

With Apologies to Matt Smith, Karen Gillam & Arthur Darvill

Vroop Vroop Vroop (The TARDIS materializes just outside the press briefing area, the doors open the Doctor Amy & Rory come out all wearing swimming gear.)

The Doctor:  Horseshoe bay beach Bermuda!  Pink Sands, warm weather and water almost as pure as the isles of Obcidan 3 during their 400 year summers!

Amy Pond:  Ah Doctor, I don’t see a beach here, I see reporters, cameras and a podium.

The Doctor:  Amy Pond,  after all this time you should know you can’t judge things by first appearances,  right Rory?

Rory  Williams:  Right Doctor but that White House & the big Washington Monument in the background doesn’t scream Bermuda.

The Doctor:  Of course we’re in Bermuda, we have to be in Bermuda the TARDIS coordinate systems states conclusively we are in Bermuda…

Reporter #1:  This is Chuck Todd at the White House where the president is about to give remarks on the terrorist Attacks on our embassies in Cario & Libya on the anniversary…

The Doctor:  ….or almost in Bermuda, well the same hemisphere in fact the same section of the same hemisphere on the right planet in a city near the right ocean, that’s GOT to count for something….

Amy:  It looks Like a press conference

The Doctor:  (picking up discarded Newspaper) Yes, September 12 2012, Washington DC, the speech after attacks on US Embassies in Africa, that’s President Obama speaking, funny thing I don’t see Mrs. Clinton I remember her being here…

President Obama:  ….(finishing speech) I’ll take some questions, Howard..

Doctor:  That’s Odd.

Reporter #2:  Howard Fineman:  The Daily Beast Mr. President reports indicate there was warning of the threats of violence and kidnapping in Benghazi how is it there was not extra security on the ground?

The  Doctor:  Something’s wrong, something very wrong

Amy:  What wrong, it’s a press conference with the president answering questions

The Doctor:  Yes President Obama answering questions from the press…

Reporter 3:  Mr. President David Gregory NBC news; The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of staff called upon an American Citizen to restrain from exercising his 1st Amendment rights to free expression, is it the position of the government that offensive speech is not allowed against Islam and if not, does that apply to other religions as well?

The Doctor:  They are questioning president Obama, they are asking him tough questions on the Bombings!

Rory:  So what’s wrong with, that isn’t that normal?

The Doctor:  Is it Rory, IS it?

Reporter #4:  Mr. President Candy Crowley CNN News the statement from the embassy decrying any insult to Islamic sensibilities was not repudiated by the White House until after Governor Romney’s statement on the matter was first leaked to the press, was that retraction a reaction to that impending statement and if not when was it decided to make that retraction?

Amy:  Yes Doctor the press, asks questions and the president answers them that’s what’s supposed to happen.

The Doctor:   No Amy that not what they’re supposed to be doing, it’s not remotely what they’re supposed to be doing, well I mean to say it IS what they are supposed to be doing, but it not what they are supposed to be doing. (Produces sonic screwdriver)

Amy:   Did you understand that?

Rory:  Not a word

Amy:  Explain!

The Doctor:  (screwdriver buzzes moving frantically ) It’a  all wrong.   President Obama taking questions from the press?  The press challenging him on issues?  The TARDIS taking us to Washington when we are supposed to be in Bermuda…

Rory:  You’ve got to admit that last one isn’t unusual.

Amy:  But what’s happening?

The Doctor:  It’s got to be a thing, a nasty thing, a nasty timey wimey thing (Looks at the readings) AH Void Energy!  It’s a dimensional breech and it’s sealing fast, back to the TARDIS quick!!

(Amy & Rory Dash into the TARDIS as The Doctor closes the door and rushes to the console)

Amy:  All right Doctor,  Void energy?

The Doctor: (frantically hitting switches, TARDIS smoking and sparking)  Dimensional breech, void energy seeping through.  likely left over from the Universal reboot.  We slipped  sideways into a parallel dimension, Imagine a photo copy with a line through the copy as if there is a stain on it.

Rory:  Yes?

The Doctor:  (still frantic still hitting switches and tapping keys) Well it’s nothing like that,  but if we don’t slip back to an exact parallel moment in our own dimensional timeline we’ll  be trapped in a parallel universe where New Coke was never discontinued, (The TARDIS SHAKES And TAKES off amid sparks and bangs  as everyone holds for dear life and shaking and smirking re-materializes a few moments later.  Voorp Vroop Vroop and a thud)

Amy:  (getting up off the floor) Did we make it Doctor?

The Doctor:  Don’t know yet, have to check if we’ve landed in the correct parallel moment in our own established timeline.  (Opens the Door and rushes out with Amy & Rory right behind him they see Mitt Romney in front of  a blue background with press in front of him.)

Mitt Romney:  (finishing statement) …with that I’ll be happy to take any questions you may have, Steve?

Rory:  Doctor did we make it?

Reporter Steve:  You issued a very toughly worded statement last night, do you regret the tone at all knowing what we know now?

The Doctor:   (With a deep relieved sigh)  Yes Rory, we made it, everything is back as it should be.  Or back the way it actually is anyways.

Update: The MSM on the “Innocence of Muslims” move in 10 seconds.

Update:  Univision asks Obama tough questions media amazed.  I guess this is more than a Doctor Who episode.
