Another war update

I got in early this morning and woke up late today so this is behind the times.

Of course if you really want to get most of the news as always you can keep an eye on Israellycool since they are as on top of it as you can get.

Well Hamas continues the great Arab tradition of saying on this in English and another thing in Arabic:

It is also the exact antithesis of how Hamas sounds on the Arabic website. In Arabic, death is glorified; in English, it is tragic. In Arabic, martyrdom is the highest achievement; in English it is barely mentioned.

Hasn’t it struck people as odd over the years that the protests from Gaza et/al over the years always have more signs in English than Arabic? It’s almost as if their photos are staged!

Meanwhile Michael Ledeen states that the war has to be won in Iran not Gaza:

They, and those who think the same applies to the Iranians, forget that our enemies want us dead or dominated, they don’t want a world at peace in which they will have to deal with real problems of governance. They are waging jihad, not diplomacy.

It follows from this that you cannot “solve” Gaza by fighting in Gaza alone, you have to win the terror war. And to do that, you must accomplish regime change, just as Netanyahu said. But the crucial regime change must be accomplished in Iran. Whatever Israel accomplishes in Gaza (and the same holds for our battles in Iraq and Afghanistan), it is only a matter of time before the mullahs reorganize, rearm, and return to battle. And the next battle may involve nuclear weapons.

Boy that sounds familiar.

Cynthia McKinney has apparently found a new source for a paycheck. Pimping for Hamas. The Captain comments:

I think McKinney would have been shocked to reach Gaza’s shore. The whole blockade-running attempt was a cheap political stunt intended to get attention.

I actually think this is what she does for a living, an awful lot of money seems to fund “protesters”. And as Michelle reminds us she was bought and paid for long ago.

In fact so was George Galloway.

Jeff Goldberg reports the position of the president elect:

If someone was sending rockets on my house where my daughters were sleeping at night, I would do everything to stop it, and I would expect Israelis to do the same thing.

These aren’t my words — they’re Barack Obama’s.

Of course they are old words as comments from the invisible man are fleeting these days as the Daily Mail notes:

Barack Obama remained silent over the violence in Gaza as Israel today threatened to continue its attacks for weeks.

Instead, the president-elect is continuing his 12-day Christmas holiday in Hawaii and was seen enjoying a round of golf.

Gateway Pundit reports the Arabs are playing the Nazi Card:

The reaction to Operation Cast Lead by the pro-Hamas radicals and Leftists has been predictably foul and bizarre.
They are even equating the Israeli acts of self defense to the holocaust.

They should take it as a complement after all Arabs communities are one place where Mein Kampf still sells.

Egypt is worried about Hizbullah reaction:

Turkey and Egypt plan to warn Israel that if a ground operation is launched in the Gaza Strip, Hizbullah might open another front in south Lebanon, Turkish sources told al-Hayat newspaper.

The article suggests that Nasrallah will settle for protests but I maintain that the decision will be made in Iran not in Lebanon.

Will Israel go in with ground troops? Will Lebanon? When will all of this be finished? Only time will tell.

Liveblogging a War

For the 2nd time Israellycool is liveblogging a war.

If you want a comprehensive update from our last post this is the place for it.

The most ridiculous statement is not from the left or even the Ron Paul forums from which I don’t expect better but comes from Pajamas media. Not from the article which is fine but from the title:

Israel Furiously Attacks Gaza — And Braces for Reprisal (emphasis mine)

Braces for reprisal? Braces for reprisal? As opposed to what?

The Arabs sent 300 rockets at them this week and thousands during the “ceasefire”. They have been under constant attack. They are already braced, and what is coming isn’t “reprisal” it’s the same violent attacks that those Palestinian bastards (yes I said bastards) have been launching against these guys for years.

Calling Arab attacks “reprisals” is a sin against language. What have the previous days, weeks months, years and decades of attacks these Palestinians be in reprisal for? The Jewish sin of breathing?

The only reason why these Palestinians are still alive is the fact that they are fighting Israel. Any other country would have destroyed them decades ago and not batted an eyelash.

I have never understood the irrational hatred of the Jews that exists.

A blog for comic book news

As you might guess when a blog tracks back you tend to take a peek to see what is there. Apparently Tel-Chi Nation’s author Avi Green has a second blog devoted to comic books called The Four Color Media Monitor. Looks like a good site for comic book fans.

I’m an old Green Lantern, Justice League fan but other than Usagi Yojimbo and the occasional Groo I don’t have much interest in the new stuff, but if you want news on characters like The Scarlet Witch, this seems to be the place.

Woke up on the couch on the 3rd day of Christmas finding myself watching the 1938 version of A Christmas Carol with Reginald Owen.

It is not the best version of the story, Alistair Sim holds that honor helped by first rate writing.

There was an animated version I watched every year as a kid that was pretty good.

The George C. Scott version should be watched at least once as he makes a really first rate Scrooge (Dr. Who fans will recognize Mark Strickson as young Scrooge)

My wife prefers A Muppet Christmas Carol with Michael Caine

and also Scrooged although we haven’t seen it on TV this year.

My Friend Vinnie from Georgia sent us Rich Little’s Christmas Carol which I haven’t seen in 20 or 30 years as a gift

The Musical version with Albert Finney is just wonderful but I haven’t seen that on the TV either this year

and who can forget Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol made the year before I was born

According to IMDB there have been as of today 71 versions made or in production starting in 1910 the latest being an animated version due out next year staring Jim Carey in the title role and all of the Ghosts too!

It is the classic story that always brings Christmas into my heart, but for some reason Owen always brings the largest smile maybe because it was I knew the most as a child, or maybe because I loved the Lockhearts as the Cratchits or maybe I just love the old Shillings and Pence and all the sliding.

You will read a lot of hemming and hawing on this site concerning politics, religion, my current unemployment and the RedSox but like Ebenezer Scrooge at the end I’ll try to keep Christmas all throughout the year. Life is very good and we all have more to be thankful for than we realize. Keep that in mind you can always produce a smile.

So on this 3rd day of Christmas, God bless us every one!
