Two words about Amazon.com

First I want to give them a shout out concerning Amazon Prime.

Not for the service itself per-se I only signed up for the trial because my son needed a particular book for a college class and it would not have been here in time without it (and it turned out to be $10 below the college bookstore) but because it of the way it handles what follows.

Most places have the “if you want to continue do nothing and we’ll bill you”, on the hopes that you will forget. To its credit Amazon allows you the chance to set up the trial where it automatically doesn’t renew.

That will cost them $79 of my money that they might have gotten if I had forgotten (HA!) but it will certainly earn kudos that will last and have been made public.

Secondly I got my Vine list yesterday in the middle of the conference, totally forgot about it and to my shock there were two books I wanted on it and managed to grab. With prime they will be waiting for me when I get back. Still haven’t finished the one I brought with me, too much to do.

But right now with money tight that vine program helps to keep me in a least a book or two a month. Makes a big difference.

My Amazon Vine review of Post-it(R) Super Sticky Removable Color Coding Labels, 1 x 2.6 Inches Assorted Neon, Laser, 450 labels per pack (2700-P) , the review Everybody is dying for…Is available at Amazon.com here.

Why on earth am I reviewing Labels? Because I got them through Amazon vine since I needed labels and on the vine program you have to review 75% of the items you get.

You won’t notice anything earth shattering about these things but they work as advertised, they’re LABELS what do you expect?

Atomic ObsessionMy Amazon vine review of John Mueller’s book Atomic Obsession is available at Amazon.com here.

This book was the hardest I’ve ever had to rate, the best parts are must read points that are often ignored when trying to push through bad legislation and funding and the bad parts containing revisionist history are weak.

So read this book for the good parts and note the bad parts.

when the game was oursMy Amazon Vine review of Larry Bird & Erwin Magic Johnson: When the Game was Ours by Jackie MacMullan is available at Amazon.com here.

I am a baseball guy but this book was excellent, it’s a story of respect and hard work and most importantly respect for the game and how it should be played.

The Boston Globe should thank its lucky stars that it has people like this writing for its sports page. The Globe’s sports page is the best in the country and it is the only reason to keep buying one of the most useless newspapers in the world.

Update: Within 2 minutes of my review going up it managed a negative vote. That was pretty fast. I wasn’t aware that it was such a poor review. You would think I had an anti-fan or something.
