I guess even the UN can learn

Amazing who would have thought it possible:

A UN agency said on Friday it halted aid imports into Gaza after hundreds of tonnes of food assistance were seized, but Hamas indicated the goods would be returned, saying the incident was a mistake.

“UNRWA has suspended all imports of aid into the Gaza Strip following the confiscation of hundreds of tonnes of food aid,” the UN agency for Palestinian refugees said.

And Hamas’ reaction? Who us?

“The aid supplies were loaded onto trucks by mistake as no government representative was present. The drivers did not know which supplies were UNRWA’s and which were the government’s.”

I suspect that this will be a blip and things will be back to normal shortly but you never know.

Some pleasant surprises

Nothing like pleasant surprises its like finding a $20 in your pocket.

#1 John Stewart and the daily show tweaking Obama:

Hey, credit Jon Stewart with daring to acknowledge what no one in the press will, even if he’d rather not: that the “arrogant swaggering cowboy” did the things he did, and said what he said, because those are the things you do and say to terrorists, whether the Upper West Side likes it, or not.

Obama – getting those daily threat reports – has figured it out.

And apparently, the left has figured out that “when Obama says it, he doesn’t really mean it, so that gives me hope.”

#2 The ACLU sues Muslims over public funding:

The Minnesota chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union says it’s suing a charter school that caters to Muslim students.

The ACLU names Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy, or TiZA, and the Minnesota Department of Education in a lawsuit in federal court that says the charter school is using taxpayer money to illegally promote religion.

The charter school, which has campuses in Inver Grove Heights and Blaine, has fallen under fire after a substitute teacher claimed the school was offering religious instruction in Islam to its students.

Still waiting for a ACLU suit on the Boston Mosque but I’ll take the steps I can get.

And if the British Pound keeps dropping I will be able to afford to restart the Big Finish Dr. Who subscription. It is already $40 cheaper online with shipping then locally. As of today the Companion Chronicles are barely over $10 each at that’s INCLUDING shipping from England.

Broken clock Watch Bob Herbert

I don’t have a lot of use for Bob Herbert but this column on Zimbabwe is required reading:

Most of the world is ignoring the agony of Zimbabwe, a once prosperous and medically advanced nation in southern Africa that is suffering from political and economic turmoil — and the brutality of Mugabe’s long and tyrannical reign.

Zimbabwe mess is even worse since it was done by Zimbabwe’s dictator and his supporters with no opposition from African leaders who might have made a difference. Totally avoidable

It brings to mind this Wondermark Cartoon.

Well Obama will be president tomorrow so it will be ok. Right?

Update: Here is the Comic Proper used with permission and don’t forget to check out Wondermark twice a week available from our permalink:
