Report from Louisiana: A sampler

SHREVEPORT – A sampling of news items from Louisiana this week:

John White:  Louisiana’s long-time State Superintendent of Education, John White, has decided to move on to other endeavors. I wish I could say I was surprised, but alas, Mr. White has been working without a contract for the past four years.

White became Superintendent in 2012 and his tenure has never been without controversy. He immediately instituted sweeping reforms, came under criticism for his position that the fault that Louisiana ranks so poorly in education is the fault of the teacher, and the fact that there has always been discussion as to whether or not he ever taught in the classroom.

One of the most controversial aspects of White’s tenure has been his implementation of the Louisiana version of the Common Core curriculum. White and Governor John Bel Edwards have always had a contentious relationship although they have managed to grudgingly work together; one of the Governor’s initial campaign promises was to replace White, but he could never quite get the votes of the education board to do so.

Personally, the current curriculum situation is one reason why I’m retiring at the end of the 2021 school year, and I’m not sorry to see White move on, however, I have real concerns about who comes next. I believe it will be critical for Governor Edwards and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to listen to teacher voices and input as the next superintendent is selected.

Storms: Northwest Louisiana experienced an unusual violent weather system this past weekend as strong storms and tornadoes swept across east Texas, Louisiana, and on toward the east coast. Here, in our area, we had three fatalities and much property damage.

The storms rolled through just after midnight Friday, and into Saturday morning.

Benton Middle School lost part of their roof and classrooms were inundated with water.

We are counting our blessings that this did not happen during the school day.

National Championship:  New Orleans is rocking right now as Mardi Gras season is underway and LSU is in town to take on Clemson for the National Championship. LSU has had a beautiful, perfect season and quarterback Joe Burrow has been a joy to watch. Very exciting.

President Trump with be in attendance and will be watching the game in a suite with the Louisiana delegation. Security is amped up right now, obviously. Trump figures in to sever of the current prop bets, which you can see here, including whether or not he will wear a red tie. (I’m going with yes on that one).

I’m making gumbo for game day, of course.

If the Democrats / Media had treated Donald Trump like both a regular candidate, and a regular president right from the start, they would not be in the pickle or the bubble they are in today.

Thinking of the rise of Islam in general and the London stabbing in particular, you have to go to the mid 30’s to find European governments in general and England in particular so wedded to the idea of appeasement in the face of a foe willing to supplement or destroy them.

The social costs of the normalization and/or legalization of Pot were as obvious as the social costs the normalization of porn which were, in my opinion, a feature rather than a bug to those who have pushed these results.

When I look at Universities taking big money from those who have made it their mission to bring down American society and destroy education I understand the old communist saying about capitalists selling them the ropes to hang them.

Finally, the most amazing thing about the New England Patriots record this season is that, thanks to Nick Folk emergency surgery, as of today they have field twice as many different kickers this season (4) as they have from 1996 till last year (2).

It’s really quite simple. California’s intent is to create a serf class and to enlarge it.

(…) California Teachers Association, emboldened by the huge Democratic gains in 2018, continues to push an aggressive and fundamentally reactionary approach to education, spending upwards of a million a month to curtail the surge of innovative charter schools in the state. This is particularly critical in lower-income communities, such as the East Bay, central Orange County and Los Angeles, where the state’s public schools have consistently failed and where some charters have made considerable strides through reforms and innovations.

But nothing has been more illustrative of the political agenda of our educational establishment than the recent draft curriculum for an “ethnic studies” course for the state’s schools. Although this curriculum has created a firestorm of opposition and is unlikely to be adopted as is, the fact is the curriculum reflected a far-left agenda that is deeply entrenched in the educational establishment.

The scariest thing about the ethnic studies curriculum may not be its ultimate content but how it reflects an ideology that advocates indoctrination of youngsters who often don’t even have the most basic understanding of sociology or history.

Often incapable of meeting basic grade-level English language and mathematics standards, these students would be forced to learn academic jargon like misogynoir, cisheteropatriarchy and hxrstory. (…)

California’s 8th graders, on average, have fallen well behind the rest of the country in science, mathematics and reading scores — including even demographically similar states such as Texas and New York. Almost three of five California high schoolers are not prepared for either college or a career; the percentages are far higher for Latinos, African American and the economically disadvantaged.

Serfs don’t need real education, of course.

Many want to know how formerly conservative California reached this abyss. There are several prongs and the descent in the quality of education is only one of the factors.

People have been trying to get me to document the other factors in the Third-World-ization of my home state. So, I’m going to take a shot at it. It will take a few days – perhaps a week – to gather the research and put it in coherent form.

The Backward world Northwestern University

If the backwards nature of the left was not already apparent the story of North-Western’s interesting class just cements it.

Northwestern University psychology professor J. Michael Bailey isn’t sure whether he’ll say he shouldn’t have allowed a live sex demo in an after-class session.

“If I decide to say I shouldn’t have done this,” Bailey told the Chicago Tribune Thursday, “it will be because [the controversy] could have been avoided, not because anybody has been harmed by it.”

Bailey allowed a man to demonstrate the use of a sex toy on his naked girlfriend in front of about 100 Northwestern University students Feb. 21, and the firestorm has been building since.

At the other McCain Smitty from Afghanistan is suggesting Charlie Sheen for Northwestern U’s First Heidi Fleiss Chair Of Applied Public Debauchery Studies while Stacy points out more idiocy from an NEA representative:

“Oral sex, masturbation, and orgasms need to be taught in education,” Diane Schneider told the audience at a [United Nations conference] panel on combating homophobia and transphobia. Schneider, representing the National Education Association (NEA), the largest teachers union in the US, advocated for more “inclusive” sex education in US schools.

Makes you want to just go out and support the union in Wisconsin doesn’t it?

More Amazing was the initial defense as Michelle Malkin reports:

The p.r. flack for Northwestern defended the “lecture” and “demonstration” as an example of teaching that puts the high-priced school “at the leading edge.”

But some students could see that the Emperor had no clothes, literally:

So once again, let’s go over the lessons of the left. Showing up for work is grounds for dismissal while playing hooky is not. The US is falling behind nationally in education so we need to teach masturbation, and $50,0000 a year colleges defend live sex acts with toys as a proper form of education.

Meanwhile a student get suspended for holding a door for a woman with her hands full.

There is a new study out that looking at boobs is healthy, if that’s true looking at all these idiots will add years to our lifespans.
