My Church St. Anthony Di Padua in Fitchburg Mass will be holding its now revived Madonna Della Cava procession with the banner, a band, statue, etc, this Sunday August 16, 2009.

The Procession will start at the school with the Band and statue Banner and will be followed by mass at 10:30 and Italian Food and assorted pastries served at no charge in the Church Hall. Music will be from the Leominister Colonial Band.

A Rosary in Italian will be said to close the festivities.

We aren’t as big as the Boston stuff but we are growing.

Oh and BTW let me give a shout out to Kevin Caravella. Since he took over the parish web site it is really something. It’s 10 times better than anything I did with it. Well done!

Cripes we even have a blog now.

Mike’s comics on the blogroll

If you read this blog for any length of time you know I am a big fan of Doctor Who in general and the Big Finish Audio’s in particular.

I’ve also mentioned Mike’s Comics out of Worcester Mass as a great place to get your Doctor Who audios. They sell strictly via mail order (otherwise I’d drive down there and likely be spending MUCH too much on the audio’s I’m missing).

However I only just discovered they have a blog on Live Journal a twitter feed and a presence on Facebook and MySpace.

So to make things easier I’m just going to include all of those in the Doctor Who section of my blogroll, so when you read my next review of a doctor who audio you can be a click away from the best place in the US (including Amazon) to buy it.

…mainly as an old comic guy I didn’t see the connection and frankly didn’t think the Dark Knight movie portrayal was the end of all things as some do but the predictable reaction has produced a very great line from Bob Owens:

A lot of people are getting their noses out of joint about a poster popping up around Los Angeles comparing President Barack Obama to the Joker.

Frankly, I don’t get it.

One embraces terrorists and madmen, is dedicated to anarchy and the destruction of capitalist society, and sends the population fleeing in horror from his creations.

The other is a fictional character played by the late Heath Ledger.

Absolutely classic, the Anchoress adds some serious perspective:

Obama’s predecessor endured 8 Years of Assassination Fascination. Actually, the “Assassinate Bush Chic” began even before the 2000 election, when Craig Kilborn flashed “snipers wanted” under a picture of Bush. So-called “newsmen” like Keith Olbermann repeatedly called the president “a fascist” and “a terrorist.” And Obama supporters can’t handle The Joker and the word “Socialism”?

Politics is ugly, and it is often over-the-top but that’s not new. Photoshop happens; it’s a free country. I myself have been photoshopped next to a dancing condom, a commentary on my annoying habit of being a Catholic.

And a sliver lining:

This Obama/Joker portrait is actually heartening to me. I may not have liked the press’ incessant attacks on Bush, and some of the uglier media put out about him, but I never found any of that as worrying as I have found the unquestioning incuriosity of the Obama-press, or the inclination by some to treat him as something more than a mortal politician voted into office by the people. The self-censoring we have seen in media has been sad and a little chilling. More chilling than any of the pics used here.

Gotta love that left. Now its off to funspot with the youngest for the day.

Mentioned my review of Culture of Corruption that I wrote yesterday is marked as most useful. In 24 hours 51 out of 60 people have marked the review favorable.

That’s an awful lot of action fast. It is as much attention as the 59 reviews I wrote over the last year have gotten combined, then again not too many people have heard about the Big finish Doctor who audios, they don’t get a lot of ratings.

I guess I should read and review political books more often.
