Patriots Day Today

Here in Massachusetts today is the Patriots day holiday. When we remember the ordinary people who defeated the greatest infantry in the world and started on the path to the creation of this great nation.

For events we have the Boston Marathon, An early 11 a.m. Red Sox game and of course the re-enactments at Lexington and Concord.

I’ve actually never been as they are usually swamped and the parking is impossible but I think maybe next year or the year after I should go. It would be a shame to live a whole life around here and never see it in person.

With Maine we are the only states that celebrate the day.

Lately there has been a lot of Charles Johnson vs other people on the right. Charles and Atlas (no pun intended), Charles and Jihad Watch, Charles and Glen Beck, etc etc etc.

I don’t like to get in the middle of fights between people I like. All the people above are against the Jihad, all want to protect America and all in my opinion want the best for us all. But I want to talk specifically about LGF and Charles.

I’ve been a LGF member for a very long time. I’ve been reading it for years. His blog contains high quality writing, solid information, and fine technical coding. Lets not forget that it was he who did yeoman’s work not only on exposing the Rathergate memos but also did (and does) solid work on the faux photography in the Arab world.

It seems to me that Charles has very set opinions and some solid standards. If he thinks something is wrong, or untoward he is not afraid to call people out, left or right on it. If he thinks he is right he is going to say so and odds are he will find a solid link to support it.

There are times when I disagree with him, for example on the recent report I think it is much more malicious that he does. He makes some valid points but I don’t think they carry the day. That’s ok. People on the same side are going to disagree on some things. We aren’t clones around here.

If Charles believes he is right I expect him to say so loudly come what may. That is principle. As the post title suggests it reminds me of Hitchens. I totally disagree with Christopher concerning Religion but his is a principled defense of his position and he isn’t afraid to stand for it. As he recently proved he isn’t afraid to put his neck on the line for what he thinks is right. I suspect Charles is the same.

A fellow like Charles is going to keep us on the right honest. We should be happy to associated with him. Debate him when you think he is wrong, but lets remember eyes on the prize, when it comes to supporting our troops and opposing the Jihad any man should be proud to have Charles standing beside him.

The one thing I can’t comment on is his music. I never knowingly heard him play. I don’t know how good he is but I’m sure on his worst day he could make better music than I ever will.

BTW: I didn’t include the “other side” on the various disputes because this particular post was concerning Charles and LGF. I’ve read and been happy to quote both Atlas and Jihad Watch on various topics and will continue to do so. I would recommend checking out both sites and Charles’ archives if you want the full back and forth between them. I don’t listen to, read or watch Beck so frankly I’m not really interested.

One thing that I think a lot of us are forgetting is this.

We (collectively) as a nation voted for president Obama.

We (collectively) as individual states voted for the people in the senate

We (collectively) as people in individuual congressional districts voted for our congressmen.

And particularly in Massachusetts we collectively have voted time and time again for the same group of democrats time and time again.

Unlike 1773 when we had taxation without representation we have representation and we still have done this to ourselves. Our founding fathers would be ashamed.

As I have said over and over again we always get the government we deserve, if the protests of yesterday are to achieve anything we need to follow up with candidates who will support fiscal responsibility.

We need to vote for them and support them politically and we need to put the fear of God into our reps who have time and time again forgotten who they work for.

If we neglect this then yesterday will simply have been a nice day at the common.

It’s our choice, what will it be?

Just back from the Boston Tea parties…

…some quick thoughts and impressions photos will follow in the next post.

The two women who put this together did an incredible job and deserve so much credit that it can’t be adequately expressed. I was watching them juggle all the work and they were astounding. I would trust them with any enterprise that I needed done. I will definitely add GOPMOM to my list of blogs to read.

Got there at 10 and the crowd built and built. At it’s peak the crowd was at my raw guesstament Over a thousand.

There were a fair amount of elderly people there. The long amount of standing must have been pretty hard.

Most of the signs were home made, they also had blank poster board available and markers so people could make their own sign.

The 1st Rally took place on the common at the State House and the monument to the 54th Massachusetts.

I made it a point to ask the police how the protesters were. It was calm and quiet and peaceful an easy day. At the 2nd Tea party I asked the police officer there the same question, got the same answer.

There was a very small contingent of Paulians carrying Paul 08 signs. I thought it was out of place as the election is long over.

There was a single LaRouchite passing out literature. I turned it down but a few people took it.

Carla Howell the mother of question 1 was there. Not only is she a most articulate and well spoken women on these issues, she is also a very handsome one.

The two protests were split as rival radio stations sponcered them. WRKO had the one at the common and WTKK had it at Columbus park where we walked after the first one was done. Quite a few people went to both.

The 2nd party seemed more organized than the first, I suspect that is because the Radio station took a more active role. I particularly liked the bit where they allowed people to come up and speak for 30 seconds each to give their opinions.

I only saw two pro Obama people there with signs. I give them props for showing up and displaying their colors.

The 10th Amendment was very popular, Barney Frank is was not. There were one or two vulgar posters involving him but many more creative ones. He and the president were the villains in chief, although at the 2nd rally Governor Patrick ranked high on the villain list.

The people were not all solid behind all the opinions, one called for the end of the Federal Reserve System another wanted the 16th Amendment repealed.

Invariably the people there were friendly and interesting, quite a few parents had their kids there and there were plenty of college students.

I talked to a reporter from NECN and asked him about the threat of bloggers who do reporting, in his opinion the biggest threat to papers was not so much bloggers as complacency. In his opinion if reporters are professional and accurate then they can compete. He seemed to have exactly the right attitude.

Lots of local press there and Fox and CNN as well. No sign of MSNBC.

The 2nd rally talked about actually getting people to run for offices. That is the actual solution, particularly in Massachusetts. Nothing is going to change unless we change it.

A blogger from Redmassgroup was doing audio interviews and asked if this would be the reaction if this was happening under McCain. I honestly couldn’t say but I suspect McCain wouldn’t have been as bad. He also asked about the Bush spending. I offered the opinion that the war was the big thing. You can always change laws and votes, you can’t unloose a war.

All in all it was a very interesting experience. I’m not one to chant or get excited but it was very worthwhile and I would do it again. The real question will be what happens after this?

Update: Ed Driscoll notes that the mainstream media didn’t take the NECN reporter’s advice.
