…because I’m not doing another round of the McCain/Johnson fight because although Robert Stacy keeps firing relentlessly, (he has no choice as explained here) Charles has not been letting off a shot in posts (and I’m still not inclined to check all his internal comments, I may be out of work right now but I do have a life). This perfectly illustrates the correctness of the title of my first post on the subject:

Irresistible force vs immovable object: Johnson vs McCain

Meanwhile blog after blog has sided with Robert Stacy McCain very loudly indeed this while the only person who seems to have had a kind word for Charles is of all people Andrew Sullivan.

What do I think of all this? In case I haven’t made it clear I think Charles is wrong, I think he’s wrong about Robert Stacy, Wrong about Dan Riehl and Wrong about Hot Air. (although in fairness hot air should have mentioned that Charles sent them an e-mail stating that the initial actions against them were done without his knowledge or approval.) You might notice if you look at my blog there is a category that wasn’t there last week called:

Worth defending Publicly

all three blogs I just mentioned are listed there.

However if Charles believes he is right he is just not going to change, and he certainly isn’t going to be persuaded by someone who thinks he is wrong, to quote a comment I made elsewhere:

The problem is that it would seem to me it is his nature to go “all out” once he decides something is right, everyone who supports it is right and a friend. Once he thinks something is wrong than everyone who supports them is wrong and his skin isn’t as thick as it once was.

I’ve been hitting Charles a bit, with PUN-isment but there was something else in that comment that is also worth repeating:

Liberals are exactly the people that we NEED to bring over concerning the War on Terror. Johnson for all of his faults recognized the war for what it is right away and even now still links to Michael Yon and strongly supports the War and keeping Gitmo open. You can always change legislation you can’t un-lose a war or un-kill someone.

Personal issues not withstanding he has been a valuable ally in the war on terror and the subject is important enough to matter.

That’s why I’m still a registered user at LGF and still make my cases and arguments in comments and I intend to stay there unless he abandons the war on terror (highly unlikely) or until I’m banned.

Last night when I hit the sack I was contemplating the problem and something I posted in a thread over there hit me:

The problem there is you win elections by getting a majority, it’s hard to win when you exclude people.

For example if I was a GOP candidate and I was approaching a Ron Paul supporter I would emphasize my support for smaller government and opposition to abortion. If he brought up the Crazy uncle isolation/Israel stuff I would disagree with him but If wooing him I wouldn’t bring it up when making my initial point.

As Captain Renault said to Rick

How extravagant you are, throwing away women like that. Someday they may be scarce.

You win elections by finding areas of agreement with as many voters as possible and getting them to vote on you based on those areas.

So if there is going to be a prince Alfonso moment the first thing necessary is a point of agreement among all parties involved.

I intend to put up a post sometime later today titled “A statement of common principles” I intend to inform all the principles in the latest disputes to “sign” it in comments. As comments are approved here that will allow me to preclude a false affirmative. Any blogger who has posted on the subject is welcome to sign it in the name of their blog or themselves.

Now this doesn’t mean it will lead to anything resembling a resolution but ya gotta start somewhere and it’s my time to waste.

Update: One bit of Irony that just hit me. I’ve been thinking about this all night. This morning at Mass. Fr. Bob’s sermon was on reconciling enemies and on the saying “When you seek vengeance be prepared to dig two graves.”

Update 2: Well that didn’t take long to be Proudly Banned, but I had it coming, how dare I defend Rush Limbaugh, Honorary Lizardoid on LGF.

McCain/Johnson round 5

The 5th round opens with Stacy Landing again, after some initial jabs he throws the left:

In other words, you’re not missing anything at LGF you couldn’t get from Amanda Marcotte or Firedoglake.

The Press release bit is strong and doesn’t even include the Color of Change release.

After a setup punch he then Throws one to the Midsection:

This problem has nothing to do with Pamela. It never was about her — it’s about him. Now, less than two years after the onset of Chronic Degenerative Lizardmania, people are becoming genuinely concerned for Johnson’s well-being.

Myself, I’d be happy if he’d just put up a post called “Autumn Open Thread,” surrender the troll-hammer to one of his evil minions and take about a six-week rest somewhere calm and peaceful with no WiFi access.

That actually isn’t bad general advice, it’s a good thing to walk away from the net some time. You can always have some timed post or general essays to go up if you don’t use a guest blogger.

But then comes the Right:

And enjoy a nice hot cup of STFU, will ya? Stop trying to defend yourself, Charles, or trying to present your monomaniacal fixation as if it were the result of your sudden discovery that everyone who voted for Bush in 2004 has been goose-stepping toward Munich ever since.

Nobody’s buying it any more, Charles. There can be no ideological or political explanation for your behavior. People are calling you “Captain Queeg,” and laughing about it, but it’s really not funny. You need help or one of these days you’ll be shuffling around down by the rail yards muttering to yourself “banned! banned! banned!

But Johnson is not just taking a hit, he rears back and lands the racist and beating black kids cards squarely in the face of…Dan Riehl:

Now there’s true courage. If those black kids had tried something, Dan Riehl was ready. Man, he would have shown them.

Of course, they didn’t try anything. But the potential for serious violence was in the air! He could tell by their “poor diction.”

Oh no. That’s not racist at all.

Read the two posts in question are here You’ll note that the first post is a cache link that includes the deleted comments.

But the bottom line is if there is any counterpunching going on it is in comment threads for other posts, not in new posts themselves and I’m not inclined to search them.

That seems to amount to a TKO but that might be premature, after all a person’s blog is a person’s blog and not letting someone drive what you post may be just rope a dope.

Will McCain continue to strike, I think so. When he actually stops will it be a victory for Johnson? I think not but time will tell.

The more I see however the further I am heading toward Robert Stacy’s corner. Stay tuned.

Update: Never scored it. Clear Round for McCain 10-7, Scoring 49-45 after 5 and the ref is checking the corner to see if Johnson wants to continue.

Getting Riehled up

I’m very pleased to welcome Riehl World View to my blogroll tonight.

I’m sure the addition of a blog in the “everyone else” category of NZ Bear’s ranking is just making his day!

…it was back before I started school. It was against a kid who was older and bigger than him. I can’t recall what the cause of it was, I think it had something to do with an insult to our family.

Well as you might guess the bigger and older kid beat up my brother pretty bad and won the fight, but you would never know it from looking at him because my brother fought as if his life depended on it. His only thought was to inflict pain on his opponent and succeeded to such a degree that for the rest of his time at any level of in every school nobody ever even thought of trying mess with him. Not bad for the school Brain Box.

To this day he fears no one. When people in Massachusetts were afraid to say boo about a certain Presidential candidate he constantly referred to him publicly as “Fluffy Hussien” (fluffy because of his lack of substance) totally unintimidated by the surrounding liberals of any color some of whom had authority over him. He has no problem telling anyone to their face exactly what he thinks. Nobody crosses him. Everyone knows he means business…

…he is an auditor.

When I was 8 I was caught in a similar situation with a 13 year old I was over a friends house and he said something about my father and I went after him.

I am nowhere near as strong as my brother so every time I went after the kid he knocked me down, every time i got back up and went right back after him. This was repeated over 10 minutes until my pal finally pulled me away and the other guy left. I was mortified at my poor showing to this day I’m ashamed I didn’t make a better one, but I’m not ashamed that I fought.

I’ve always been the family diplomat, I tend to see the best in people and without evidence to the contrary take people at their word. It has burned me on occasion but that’s me. My religion also demands I make peace when I can. The only exceptions I have always made have been matters of honor and respect. The only real fights I’ve had with my wife have been in those cases. In marriage and life you pick the hill to die on, family, honor and respect are mine It’s part of the Sicilian American way of living.

My boys have standing orders not to swing first in a fight unless there is an insult to their mother or grandmother. Three years ago my youngest swung fist at school and I talked to the vice principal. I told him what the guy in question said about his mother (who worked at the school) and informed him that he had standing permission to swing in a case like that, in fact I expected him to. The VP punished my son according to the rules as required but privately told me that he would have done the same thing and hoped his sons would too.

When he later violated those rules last year I punished him heavily, not only for the act but because it was a dishonorable act.

Personal honor is something worth fighting for. In Sicilian culture it is very important, there are times when one takes great risk in doing so but in the end you can only pass on your name.

This ran in my family in the late 1930’s my uncle was considered one of the brightest kids in his high school class, but when he was sent to the principal’s office and the principal called him a “dirty ginny” he punched him out and quit school (the latter was ill advised) but went on to win the bronze star under Patton.

His father 20 years earlier had been in court in a dispute with another man. In court the fellow called my Grandfather a ginny. He started toward him and the Judge warned him that he would fine him $10 if he laid a hand on him. My grandfather was an Italian immigrant barber and a haircut cost 25 cents in those days. He went over punched the guy out and walked to the bench and handed the judge the $10 that he worked days to earn. And we won’t get into the details of my parents defending their business and family from fists and guns from people in authority who didn’t want Italians running a business in town.

And that brings me to the subject that I’m been very obsessed over that’s Robert Stacy McCain. As I’ve repeatedly said I’ve never met him or Charles Johnson and have only rarely exchanged e-mails with both. Other than what they have said on their blogs I know nothing of their personal lives.

I saw Charles accusations concerning Robert, they were serious not only in terms of his career as a reporter and someone supporting a family of 6 but in terms of honor. The next day after reacting with righteous anger over the statements Robert answered and provided explanations as well. They more than satisfied me and I take him at his word.

He has since been relentless in attacking Charles. If Mr. Johnson had been standing in front of Mr. McCain I suspect he would have handled it in the same way my brother did years ago. As that was not the case he has gone after him relentlessly; post after post, blog after blog, holding nothing back. When I see that on his blog I see my brother, my uncle, my father and my grandfather.

However there is another factor here, Robert Stacy McCain is the father of six. Those six carry his name and to some degree his reputation. He is fighting for their honor, his father honor and his great grandfather’s honor. He also as a father has to set the example for his children to stand up for themselves. If he lets this go without satisfaction he the example he will be setting will be terrible. As a father I see it and nod.

This is why as long as there is not an honorable resolution Robert Stacy will make sure in the words of Jeb Stuart whom he quoted “He will regret it but once, and that will be continuously.” It is not possible for him to do anything else, the consequences otherwise are too great and the longer it lingers the smaller the chances of an honorable solution will be.
