And I’m still one up on him

Charles slanders Glenn and Patterico calls him out on it.

I’m not surprised by this and Glenn isn’t holding his breath waiting for an apology but the best revenge is this, Charles has not managed an instalanche since Aug 27 2009 and Patterico just received his 2nd of the new year.

If that isn’t enough my instalanche monday is one more than Charles has managed since then too . He’s still 232 instalanches up on me but I’m working on it.

Meanwhile Charles’ arch enemy Robert Stacy has managed 3 additional instalanches onthese posts since my last report bringing his total to 14 since Charles last one however Glenn has yet to link to the new site.

He must not be a fan of ‘bama.

Update: Glenn remembers what our grandmothers used to say:

Charles, I wish you well, but . . . well, I don’t really have much else I want to say right now.

It doesn’t matter Glenn; Charles will fill in the blanks

Jimmy Carter Apologizes to Israel!?!? Another Festivus Miracle!

Here is a story I never expected to be reading:

Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter has apologized to the American Jewish community for ‘stigmatizing Israel’ and asked for forgiveness for his actions, the JTA reported on Monday.

“We must recognize Israel’s achievements under difficult circumstances, even as we strive in a positive way to help Israel continue to improve its relations with its Arab populations, but we must not permit criticisms for improvement to stigmatize Israel,” Carter wrote in a letter to the JTA.

“As I would have noted at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, but which is appropriate at any time of the year, I offer an Al Het for any words or deeds of mine that may have done so,” Carter wrote, referring to the prayer said on Yom Kippur in which Jews ask God for forgiveness for any sins.

As you know I’m a big fan of confession, but I’ve never expected this one.

Who says miracles can’t happen on this magic day of Festivus?

I guess he wanted to preempt the traditional airing of grievances but I as said last year, I have teenagers, every day is for the airing of grievances.

Happy Festivus to all who celebrate it and have a nice day to everyone else.

Update: I’m no expect of Jewish Theology but I know a bit about Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular. I’m a bit bothered by the reactions on this thread where I found the Carter story. Remember the rules:

I would remind all Christians of this little prayer that you likely pray every day:

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and do not subject us to the final test, but deliver us from the evil one. Matt 6:9-13 emphasis mine

The next two verses are even more blunt:

If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions. Matt 6:14,15

Every time you say the Our Father (of you prefer the term The Lord’s Prayer) and you choose not to forgive you are condemning yourself. Christ was very explicit here. He meant to be. This is not an optional doctrine. These are the rules.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, the presence of one’s enemies will not make hell any more bearable.

Update 2: Speaking of grievances…

Isn’t that nice. Oh, in a not-at-all related story, Jimmy Carter’s grandson is running for Congress {incorrect see update 3 DTG} in a Georgia district that has a significant (at least for Georgia) Jewish population.

“Hey, I am really sorry for all that anti-Israel stuff I have been doing for years and years. I am also really sorry that I left that Holocaust thing out of my book on Israel and all the other things. Yeah, really sorry about that. Have you met my Grandson Jason, he is running for Congress and he really likes Jews.”

That gives an interesting twist to the story.

What kind of people steal the sign at Auschwitz?

In Ashburnham ,the town next to mine, there is a street called River Styx Road. The road sign for years was constantly being stolen.

However I suspect this sign stealing has very little to do with a teenage kid putting stuff on his wall:

Thieves on Friday stole the notorious metal sign hanging over the entrance of the former Nazi death camp of Auschwitz that reads “Arbeit macht frei” (“Work makes free”), police said.

they don’t think it’s kids either:

Polish Ambassador to Israel Agnieszka Magdziak-Miszewska said that the Polish police believe the unknown perpetrators who stole the infamous sign at the entrance to the Nazi death camp Auschwitz meticulously planned out their plot because they were not caught on security cameras.

“Everyone is doing everything they can in order to catch those who did this,” she said, adding that the governor of the region declared a state of emergency. She also said that finding the metal sign is a national priority.

Considering how much mass murder is going on around the world it is well to consider something I wrote a bit ago:

…the reason why there are holocaust museums today isn’t because of what was done, governments KNEW what was being done and didn’t give a damn.

It’s because an army of average American SAW it and were outraged. It could not be ignored or explained away. Excuses wouldn’t wash.

The generation of people who were born post Holocaust are now 65 years old Three generations of people from that age down know only what we have passed down to them. It is the responsibility of us to pass on this history and it’s significance to future generations.

At best this signifies our failure.

Rules? We don’t need no stinken rules!

I’m detecting a pattern here:

Your candidate dies before the election, decide “he” still qualifies for the ballot and appoint someone else!

You candidate is about to lose an election in the Senate? Fudge the rules and put a different one up, deadlines be damned!

Want to push Global warming and grab a big chunk of the worlds money? Fudge the data and the info.

Acorn supports your candidates but congress votes to cut off funding? Rule that Acorn has a constitutional right to those funds.

Conservatives use the rules of the senate to slow things down? Ignore them.

…about three hours into the reading, Sanders withdrew his amendment, and this stopped the reading of the bill — even without unanimous consent.

“In allowing Sanders to do that, it appears the parliamentarian has broken the standing rules of the Senate,”

The rule in question?

“Reading: Under Rule XV, paragraph 1, and Senate precedents, an amendment shall be read by the Clerk before it is up for consideration or before the same shall be debated unless a request to waive the reading is granted; in practice that includes an ordinary amendment or an amendment in the nature of a substitute, the reading of which may not be dispensed with except by unanimous consent, and if the request is denied the amendment must be read and further interruptions are not in order; interruptions of the reading of an amendment that has been proposed are not in order, even for the purpose of proposing a substitute amendment to a committee amendment which is being read. When an amendment is offered the regular order is its reading, and unanimous consent is required to call off the reading.” (Riddick’s Senate Procedure, P.43-44)

Notice a pattern here? Over and over the rules or the laws or the standards are not amenable to their liberal cause. So rather than changing the law, or the rules or the standards our liberal friends decide to ignore them or fudge them.

There is an important lesson for conservatives here. If in the senate they are willing to play with the rules to stop delaying tactics they will be willing to change the rules to pass this bill or any other. The only rules are to win right now, immediate gratification.

And realize this doesn’t just apply to republicans, remember the misogyny and the tactics used against Hillery Clinton during the primaries in 08? If conservatives had used them we would have been pariahs.

Conservatives better understand the rules of engagement because if we bring a shield to a sword fight we are going to get cut.

I really think this is symptomatic to a decision made just over a decade ago but I think that is a post for another day when I want to make a speech.
