And now the other side

Yesterday I highlighted how a post on Talkleft expressing some regret that it was necessary to kill the pirates produced some rather…interesting comments. Now lets look at the other side of the coin.

Gateway Pundit points to this post at Kos where the Captain of the vessel is derided for his resistance. As the newly re-designed (not bad) GP points out the post is outrageous, but I want to tip my hat to most of the commentators.

The commentators are almost unanimous in their disdain for the post, quite a few are calling for it to come down. Some may in fact agree with the line of argument but think it reflects poorly on liberalism but I prefer to think that these people get it.

This is why I think that a post like this shouldn’t come down. The commentators on this diary do much more credit to the left than the diary does against it. Plus the image in this comment is worth the price of admission.

First there was the silly “choose life” business that outraged the National Abortion Rights league. (I won’t call them NARAL if they think Abortion is good and ok then use the word). Now Gov Kaine of Va strikes again:

Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, has signed a bill into law banning the use of some state funds for embryonic stem cell research.

The move puts the DNC chairman at odds with President Obama, who signed an executive order earlier this month reversing the Bush administration’s ban on federal funding for research on embryonic stem cells.

The Curt Jester echos my thoughts:

It is nice to be able to praise a Catholic Democrat for a change.

But Southern Appeal has the best line:

Who would have thought that the DNC chairman would be more prolife than the GOP chairman?

Amen!

Left leaning? Who wouda thunk it!

The gall of the Obama administration on lobbyists in this article is not such a shock but there is one line in the story that jumped out at me:

Next week, the left-leaning ACLU will join with the nonprofit watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington and the trade group the American League of Lobbyists in sending a letter to the White House protesting the policy, said League President Dave Wenhold. (emphasis mine)

Somebody has actually come out and said it. It is a very liberating thing when you say the truth out loud.

Grover Cleveland lives!

Grover Cleveland is one of my favorite presidents and in my opinion one of the most underrated presidents these days. He was one of the most honest men to ever occupy the White House.

One of my favorite quotes by him is “A Democratic thief is as bad as a Republican one.” Apparently at least one diarist at Daily Kos agrees:

House Democrats have been blocking an ethics investigation into this matter. That has to stop now. It was shit like this that helped Democrats lose control of the House in 1994, and Republicans in 2006. I’ve got no interest in giving Republicans easy ammunition.

We have to show we are different than Republicans by refusing to tolerate any corruption in our ranks.

The two paragraphs illustrate one of the things I strongly believe. The right thing is also the smart thing.
