As the devastation from Hurricane Helene is unveiled on TV and the internet, it is difficult to refrain from drawing parallels to the devastation unleashed by Hurricane Katrina.

The incredibly inept response to the devastation by Kamala Harris and Joe Biden bears a strong resemblance to the grossly incompetent response to the aftermath of Katrina by George W. Bush: People are Dying in Hurricane Helene’s Aftermath While Government Helicopters Remain Grounded (townhall.com)

As time marches on, the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and catastrophic damage is becoming increasingly clear. Stranded Americans still are not getting the help they need and the situation is dire.

According to Republican Congressman Michael Walz, a number of military helicopters that could be used to rescue people, in places where road access in the mountains of North Carolina has been cut off, have not been deployed by the Biden administration.

People are suffering and dying. All they are getting from the Biden regime are photo ops.

The damage across a number of southern states is being described as “Katrina level destruction,” in comparison to Hurricane Katrina — which destroyed New Orleans in 2005, caused billions of dollars in damage and thousands of deaths.

Hundreds of people are still missing while cell service and clean drinking water are still unavaible in a number of areas.

Is the lack of a meaningful response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene politically motivated: Was This the Reason for FEMA’s Tardy Response to North Carolina Hurricane Victims? (townhall.com)

President Biden told reporters there was nothing more that he could do for the people of Western North Carolina.

Reporter: “Do you have any words to the victims of the hurricane?”

Biden: “We’ve given everything that we have.”

Reporter “Are there any more resources the federal government could be giving them?”

Biden: “No.”

Five days later and many towns and cities have yet to see any disaster relief – relief, by the way, that’s paid for by the hardworking taxpayers in places like Western North Carolina.

The Democrats sent hundreds of millions of dollars to Ukraine. They tend to the needs of millions of illegals, but when Americans need help, nobody at FEMA answers the phone.

Why is that? Maybe it’s because that part of the country is filled with Republican voters. Who knows?

Not enough life saving supplies are reaching the devastated area because: Biden-Harris Used FEMA Disaster Funding For Illegal Immigrants (thefederalist.com)

The Biden-Harris administration took more than a billion tax dollars that had been allocated to the agency responsible for American disaster relief and used it to offer services for illegal immigrants.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) allocated nearly $364 million in the fiscal year 2023 and $650 million for the 2024 fiscal year to the “Shelter and Services Program” “to provide humanitarian services to noncitizen migrants following their release from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS),” according to the government’s website.

Thanks to the Biden Regime, FEMA is now completely woke: FEMA Website Admits Keeping You Alive Isn’t Its Top Priority (thefederalist.com)

According to FEMA’s website, storm preparation doesn’t even rank among the top two priorities of the federal relief agency. FEMA’s stated goals include, first, instilling “equity as a foundation of emergency management,” and second, to “lead whole of community in climate resilience.” The goal to “promote and sustain a ready FEMA and prepared nation” ranks third under an administration obsessed with promoting identity politics at every level of the federal bureaucracy. When President Joe Biden was sworn into office, one of his first appointments was former White House National Security Adviser Susan Rice to lead the Domestic Policy Council. She was tasked with requiring agencies make “rooting out systemic racism” a focal point of their mission.

It’s a good thing that instead of inarticulate people like George W. Bush in Washington these days we have folks like Arnie Duncan who know how to turn a phrase:

ABC News’ Mary Bruce Reports: Education Secretary Arne Duncan said today that Hurricane Katrina was “the best thing that happened to the education system in New Orleans” because it gave the city a chance to rebuild and improve its failing public schools. emphasis mine

Perhaps the right way to say what he was trying to express would have been: “An unexpected consequence of the devastation of Katrina was rebuilding and improvement of the failing public schools in New Orleans a testament to the spirit of the people of the city.”, but I’m just a neanderthal conservative what do I know about turning a phrase?

Glenn calls it the Gaffe of the year, well the year is still young but I’m not giving him a nelson because I understood what he meant rather what he said.
