Today I received some used Big Finish Doctor Who episodes that I won on eBay from England.
That in itself is not a reason for a new post (except for a review perhaps). Over the last couple of years I’ve picked up quite a few of them. Today however the seller Trevor9661 managed to surprise me.
A very common problem with buying used copies of the Big Finish adventures is that often the internal plastic on the CD’s are damaged. It’s not a huge deal in the sense that I usually import them and sync them to the Ipod at once, but it can make for some issues when I loan them out to promote the series.
However Trevor managed to think of something that nobody else did. As I opened each cd case there was a small 1 1/2″ square of bubble wrap.
That little bit of wrap assured me that the internals of every CD case was in pristine shape.
Once I confirm all the CD’s are listenable I’ll be leaving proper eBay feedback but until that moment let me give public recognition to Trevor9661, the fellow who thought of what nobody else managed to.
This Sunday our parish priest talked about the importance of taking time to relax and rest, so this week we spend a large chunk of the day on Salisbury beach.
We got there fairly early and I had a wonderful time, a bit of a dip followed by a combination of a good book and audio doctor who’s on my temporary Ipod.
Once done after a quick bite we went to Joe Playland where we absolutely demolished the Family Guy Pinball machine and had our first look at the new Indiana Jones Pinball that includes all four movies. The original game is one of the single best pinball machines I’ve ever played.
This new machine was expensive (75 cents a game) but was very creative. Here is a brief film I found on the machine elsewhere:
Is it superior to the old game, I’m not ready to say that but it is pretty good.
We then drove north toward Hampton beach and the strip there, then further up the coast for a bit and saw some of the most expensive houses you’ve ever seen. They were a sight almost as beautiful and incredible as the coast itself.
From there the next stop was Kimball’s farm for ice cream in Westford Mass. I remember when it was just an ice cream stand with a few farm animals. After a time a gift show was added. The last time I visited they had mini golf, bumper boats and a driving range. Monday when we went down a new BBQ grill area serving all kinds of fried grilled and BBQ meats and fish, an exotic animal area, a midway/arcade (no pinball how barbaric) and finally hot air balloon rides where for $15 bucks you get 8 minutes at 300 feet.
If you are looking for an excellent first date to take a girl, this place is it.
So in the end it was a fun and relaxing day, I haven’t gotten in a lot of blogging and a lot of it hasn’t been political, but you know what, I’m not going to let my problems or this president keep me from living and enjoying the one life I have. All these things are important and I’ve expressed my opinion on them and will continue to do so, but not at the expense of my life.
Over the next 15 months there are going to be many congressional candidates all over the country who will be looking for exposure and funds. Imagine if these candidates held A fund-raising dinner featuring the most famous former vice presidential candidate there has ever been. Picture the local/national media coverage, the large crowds and the money raised.
I called it the LBJ strategy since that’s one of the methods that Johnson used to build his power base on capital hill.
Palin has the most valuable commodity a Presidential candidate can have – a base. Roughly 23% of Americans and 68% of Republicans have a favorable view of Palin. She alone has this kind of intense following. She alone can fill a large hall or small stadium anywhere in Republican Country…
Palin will also be more in demand as a dinner speaker, fundraiser and campaigner than any other Republican in 2011.
And now Governor Palin confirms it herself talking to Time:
In fact, my intention is to go out and to campaign for people who can effect change all across our nation. I can’t do that from the governor’s desk no matter how careful I were to be, because we’ve got lots of double standards hitting us. Other governors probably could travel around and campaign for others and speak candidly, using their First Amendment rights to express what they feel about a person, a candidate, a position. I get hit with ethics-violation charges if I do that.
Be afraid Liberals/Democrats; be very afraid. Oh sorry you already are or you wouldn’t have spent the last 8 months trying to destroy her.
One of the crucial factors in McCain’s defeat was voter apathy. A huge number of Bush voters couldn’t be bothered to slog to the polls for him. If Sarah Palin climbs into the ring against Barack Obama in 2012, there won’t be many empty seats in the stadium. If she hits hard enough, I don’t think very many people will care that she has “Ex-Governor of Alaska” embroidered on her boxing trunks. Politics is all about possibilities, not certainties. Even those who feel skeptical about Palin’s chances after Friday afternoon must conclude, from the passionate reaction of the public, that an awful lot of people are very interested in voting for someone like Sarah Palin… and there is no one else like Sarah Palin.
