All about Michelle (no not That one)

I mean Michelle Malkin the woman who Chris Matthews hates as much as he loves Obama.

She was one of the first to embrace the blogging style nearly a decade ago

The story is here, they are very right she is very abrasive and solid in what she thinks is right and wrong but the closing paragraph is one of the main reasons why she is one of my favorite bloggers.

America has never lost its promise for Malkin’s parents, as she related in a column published 16 years ago. “[M]y mother likes to remind me that she has a great advantage over her children,” Malkin wrote. “She was born poor in a foreign country that offered no opportunity for advancement. Unlike jaded American cynics who’ve grown to despise our country’s greatest legacy, she’ll never take for granted the gift of the American Dream. I hope I never do either.”

I love people who remember where they came from.

Don’t settle

I was thinking about the comments that Chris made in this post and it leads me to say something very important to the people who say: “Parties don’t matter nobody cares for you etc…”

The moment you decide that there is no reason to vote there is no reason to think, there is no reason to try to govern yourselves. Everyone might has well bend over and kiss themselves goodbye because we have no control over our lives.

That is a very cynical and atheistic view. Atheistic because it is a view without hope or purpose.

I don’t and I won’t subscribe to that view. I think we can and should make a difference, I think that people can be inspired to be better than they are and to aspire to achieve for themselves and for others. I think that an informed and active populace can choose representatives that can lead our cities, our states and our country to become even better than it is today, and in case you aren’t aware of it; despite all the trouble we are having now, despite all the hard times, despite all the lost jobs including mine we are still DAMN lucky to live in what still is not only the greatest country in the world but the greatest country that has ever existed in the history of the world!

And I believe a large amount of our liberal friends think the same, they just have different opinions on how to get there.

This is a small blog, I have a small readership and a small customer base, but I’m very proud and thankful for that and will do my best to grow the customer and the readership base.

And if I can advance positions that will make things better for my wife and sons I will do my best to do so. If my political opinion can change even a few minds or even just get someone thinking about it I’m going to do my best to do so. And If I can persuade even one or two people to Christ in general or the Catholic Church in particular then I will be able to die proud. I am an incurable optimist I think things can and will get better, we just have to be willing to do it.

But none of this is possible if I’m unwilling to bother, and even if your goals are exactly the opposite of mine but your passion is the same your goals can’t be achieved if you are cynical.

Don’t settle for cynicism. If you do then I don’t want to hear you complain, if there is nothing that can be done then why complain, why bother?

Some people may be willing to live that way, as far as I’m concerning that isn’t living, that’s existing and I want more than that in life, and so should you.

Das Full boot

Well the latest batch of acceptance letter has come in and now a big decision has to be made.

Anna Maria is the #1 choice of the kid at the moment. That would leave us counting the college fund with about 9k to come up with.

Fitchburg State College however has offered him a full boat including all fees.

He would also be in a position to live at home, that is not necessarily a good thing.

The question is can we come up with enough funds or scholarships to make up the Anna Maria difference? Will another college (offers at the moment run from 2k-12k but leave a gap as large as Anna Maria).

We have some serious thinking to do but at least if a job isn’t forthcoming it won’t keep him out of college.

And a note to teenagers who read this blog. This guy does his homework every night and hasn’t partied at all. This is why he is in this spot. You could be too if you put your mind and effort into it.

In looking for the video for Kryten’s head exploding (Ketchup on Lobster! BOOM) for the last post I found this bit of news at the BBC:

Cult comedy Red Dwarf is returning to TV, 21 years after its initial launch.

The show has been resurrected by digital channel Dave for a two-part Easter weekend special, which sees the cast finally return to Earth.

Written and directed by Red Dwarf co-creator Doug Naylor, the new show reunites the line-up, including Coronation Street’s Craig Charles.

The hit show, which ran for eight series on BBC Two between 1988 and 1999, won an International Emmy award.

This show was always very funny and very offbeat. It will be a very fun time. More details here.
