Ctrl-Center Hmmmm

Noticed that the page for Ctrl-Center has changed.

When HiWired stopped breathing it remained to be seen what would happen to Ctrl-Center, would Office Max drop the brand or give it to another tech support company?

I presume Office Max decided they didn’t want the dough already sunk into be a loss so somebody is doing it. Since the page say US based support I presume it hasn’t gone to India but as to where it is being done and who is doing it I have no idea.

Still not sure if they will be supporting the old services that we once offered, but that is a post for another day. I’d be very interested in knowing what people think of the new service, of course I’d recommend Datechguy’s tech services instead.

UPDATE: It belongs to PlumChoice.

Speaking of the Handsome Mika

Howard Kurtz today talks about Mika Brzezinski and her gigs on both Morning Joe and the New Radio program that I haven’t listened to yet.

“I’ve been in a box as a journalist for 20 years,” she says. “That is a very safe and lazy place to be. You can hide behind objectivity. It is much harder to put yourself out there.”

Brzezinski’s comeback occupies the eroding line between news and commentary, but it reflects more than that. In a fickle culture that swoons over celebrities and spits them out, media people can be hot and then, suddenly, not –particularly women who reach a certain age and are supplanted by younger rivals.

The fact that she puts is not shy about her opinions out there makes me trust her on a subject more than any other liberal who pretends otherwise.

Revenge of the nerds

There is an old saying to never get into an argument with someone who buys ink by the barrel. Today the argument would be never get into a fight with a techie:

As a prank, students from local high schools have been taking advantage of the county’s Speed Camera Program in order to exact revenge on people who they believe have wronged them in the past, including other students and even teachers.

Students from Richard Montgomery High School dubbed the prank the Speed Camera “Pimping” game, according to a parent of a student enrolled at one of the high schools.

Originating from Wootton High School, the parent said, students duplicate the license plates by printing plate numbers on glossy photo paper, using fonts from certain websites that “mimic” those on Maryland license plates. They tape the duplicate plate over the existing plate on the back of their car and purposefully speed through a speed camera, the parent said. The victim then receives a citation in the mail days later.

As technology improves expect more and more of this kind of stuff from kids.

Via slashdot. I’m not a fan of speed cameras. Johnny English has the right idea at 6:53-7:10 below

People in town still without power

Well as of this morning people on my street, my sister, my cousin and one of my wife’s best friends are all still without power.

Our Mayor’s press conference on the subject and on repairs etc is here, if you would like to download it then click here.

Mini-Update: (Did I just hear a reporter ask what will be the result of the investigation of our local utility before it has actually started? Playing the conference for the wife, she cackled outloud when the mayor said the city knows how to handle snow and is clearing the roadways.)

The 7″ or so yesterday didn’t help and the several inches today isn’t helping either.

Good thing I got the snowblower fixed in November at A & G Rental, or it would have been a good thing if it actually started when the storm came.

I know we have had a lot of help from power crews from out of state so I want to say to all of those guys, thanks an awful lot or thing would be a lot worse then they already are.
