The Amish edge

Considering we went through the same thing here I really feel for the people in Kentucky who are still without power and that no matter what the Today show said tuesday has had a slow Fema response and been rather ignored by the Obama administration.

The most interesting story I’ve seen on this is here:

When the wind died down and the ice storm had passed, Joe Stutzman gathered his spare lanterns and stepped out of his Amish farmhouse to lend them to his modern-living neighbors.

“I feel sorry for my neighbors who were used to electricity and all of a sudden didn’t have it,” Stutzman said. “I know that must be hard for them.”

Hundreds of thousands of people in Kentucky have been without electricity for their lights, furnaces, ovens and refrigerators since the killer storm hit more than a week ago, and some spots might not get power back for weeks.

But Kentucky’s Amish have been living that way all their lives. And when the disaster struck, they generously lent a hand to their non-Amish neighbors and showed them how it’s done.

The money quote is right here:

Stutzman, his wife and their seven children were secure in their toasty, two-story home amid corn and soybean fields and swampy stands of cypress in western Kentucky.

“We paid it no attention,” Stutzman said Tuesday, relaxing in a handmade rocker as a wood stove across the room radiated heat on a windy morning with temperatures in the low 20s.

Take that Weird Al!

Now we have Russ Feingold trying to end the appointments of senators and give the states the expense of special elections.

You can make the argument that special elections are better than appointments but it isn’t that critical. The states can handle that one. Hell until 1913 ALL senators were appointed (people seem to forget this).

The choices out of Ill and NY were qualified and acceptable, this is an attempt to solve a problem that doesn’t exist. If the Democrats are embarrassed by their Governors then maybe they should run less corrupt ones. Remember that the only reason Patterson is there is because the previous Gov resigned.

It hits me that is this isn’t some kind of hoax that 3.7 million put into a series of 13 bank accounts at 3% will earn $111,000 annually.

Even if taxes eat up say 30% that’s still 2.59 mil at 3% That still $77,700 a year. One person can live a comfortable life off that easy.

This likely means that if the bidding goes no higher then Ms Dylin will never have to work for the rest of her life depending on the lifestyle she chooses.

Of course if this does happen then it will be emulated and the going price would likely shrink. So we will see if this becomes a growth industry.

This is a funny suggestion but a waste of funds:

Is she promising to have sex with the highest bidder, or is she promising to let that person “take her virginity”?

If it’s the latter, some enterprising abstinence group should buy the option and then refuse to exercise it. I bet that’d make for a fun contract dispute after she figured out what happened.

That would sell tickets at Court TV.
