Morning Joe I had a good night’s sleep.

It’s amazing how you can sleep when you’ve been taking apart and moving Pinball machines around the house etc. Slept right through till 7.

7:02 a.m. Sooner or later Businesses need to be allowed to act like businesses.

7:07 a.m. This is one of the fun parts of the show that they don’t take themselves seriously, and Mika does look nice in blue.

7:08 a.m. Gibbs fireman analogy isn’t bad, but being a spokesman is a lousy job, but it beats unemployment.

7:10 a.m. A very important point, they didn’t start the fire but they campaigned for the job of Fire Chief.

7:14 a.m. Joe nails it on the Rich and taxes. Have you noticed that we haven’t seen much of Crammer on the show lately?

7:22 a.m. Hass ugh!

7:24 a.m. Todd is correct when you hear someone say “99%” of what he says I agree with means they don’t agree with them.

7:26 a.m Great point by Barnicle, they will talk to Iran, Syria and the Taliban but won’t talk to the Bankers. I would add they won’t talk to Rush either.

7:31 a.m. When China stops buying our notes up go interest rates. My 6 1/2% mortgage is looking good.

7:32 a.m. Speak of the Crammer and on he comes.

7:36 a.m. Good point about Stewart willing to attack Crammer and Bush but not willing to attack Obama.

7:38 a.m. Joe points out that none of the late night guys will attack Obama. How about that not reporting what someone actually said. Where have we seen that before?

7:42 a.m. Self reflection by media people on MSNBC! If it wasn’t Morning Joe my head would explode.

7:44 a.m. They play the Rush clip defending him.

7:46 a.m. Maybe they should debate Cramer, yeah they will do that after they debate Rush.

7:54 a.m. Congressman Kingston points out where the money is going and what it is doing.

8:02 a.m. I’d have gone to Cincy to see Pete Rose play too. I never saw him play live but I saw him on the set. He doesn’t belong in the Hall of Fame, but he belongs on any team that wants to win.

8:13 a.m. Sniderman is talking “investing in health care reform” the question is what does she mean by it?

8:29 a.m. Nothing wrong with Non-Violence Mr. King, try it against a culture that doesn’t have its roots in British common Law and see what happens.

8:43 a.m. Is that drink of Mika’s spiked?

8:58 a.m. Mika in boots is an interesting sight.

A break from the WBC.

6:01 a.m. Obama says buy things, isn’t this what president Bush said and was beaten up for.

6:02 a.m. “Rush Hour” continues. It must make for good ratings.

6:13 a.m. No other ideas out there? You mean no other ideas that are publicized.

6:20 a.m. The Rock thing was very funny.

6:39 a.m. They compare what Obama is doing domestically to what President Bush did during 9/11. This is not without merit.

7:02 a.m. Let em fail says Shelby. I think he is right.

7:14 a.m. Clip of News, Joe mentions the push poll.

7:16 a.m. I know I’m small on this today, checking out the Japan/Korea Game on ESPN.

7:30 a.m. I’m not giving up my salad shooter either. I used to work in a plastic plant that made them.

7:42 a.m. Jack Welch is cool, but not as cool as a 6-2-5 double play with runners on 2nd & 3rd with nobody out. What a play by Japan!

7:46 a.m. “There is no critical thinking on Barak Obama.” Jack Welch says out loud what everyone knows but is unwilling to say; if you criticize Barak you are a pariah; Mika is horrified.

8:22 a.m. We can’t send it troops to Dafur, we have to work with other countries to do what they haven’t been doing already. This is apparently will allow us to feel good about ourselves without actually risking anything. That is liberalism in a nutshell.

8:38 a.m Jack Welch stayed on. One of the great things about being in his position is he is strong enough not to worry about what other people think of him.

8:42 a.m. Was it the right thing to save one and not the other. The author thinks a firm needed to fail.

8:49 a.m. Cortney doesn’t want to get into Barnicle’s pay per view habits.

8:51 a.m. Cortney must not know many comic book people. Those guys are going to go again and again to the picture.

UPDATE: Finkelblog spots Welch’s quote.

So Morning Joe begins and it’s proved that you can’t be Imused over a black republican.

6:00 a.m. Hey Pat here’s a buck or two buy yourself some AIG and Citi.

6:01 a.m. Looks like we can still make Joke’s about Rush, but the great Obama. Nein est verboten!

6:02 a.m. What we need is optimism.

6:04 a.m You know normally the rats don’t leave the ship while it’s still launching.

6:06 a.m. Barnicle mocks Harry Sunshine Reid.

6:18 a.m. George Bush didn’t make tough choices? What planet is Joe on?

6:32 a.m. It’s worse than they are telling us.

6:44 a.m. Rush might have been irrelevant during an Obama administration? This guy is a reporter?

6:50 a.m. Still making Bush jokes, no Obama ones.

6:58 a.m. They are on thin Ice with Mika over the good looking stuff.

7:06 a.m. Still attacking Steele for not standing up, Obama hasn’t answered yet.

7:14 a.m. Did Albright just say that Iraq was lost? I was distracted by something.

7:22 a.m. Pat asks her about Freeman she ducks the question, Pat “I’m not an anti-semite” Buchanan likes him. He does have a point as to why all these guys who worked for and with him won’t speak up for him.

7:24 a.m Why do I think that Mary Albright would have been a better sec of state than she was?

7:38 a.m. Wesely Clarke loves ethanol. I don’t mind it as an extra card in the deck particularly in wartime as an alternate fuel.

7:47 a.m. They show Gibbs getting the radio, did they mention that Rush arranged it?

7:49 a.m. They push the leave Islam alone and it will leave us alone story in Newsweek. What a crock.

8:01 a.m. Lets cheer ignoring the threats of the world. Peggy Noonan is the guest.

8:12 a.m They are showing the Obama stock market chart.

8:14 a.m. The rich republican canard is trotted out. Joe shoots it down. Obama’s failures are apparently Michael Steele’s fault.

8:27 a.m. They need the smartest people regardless of race, wasn’t that the argument they made on this show FOR Geitner just a month ago?

8:33 a.m. Erin: “If you use the word crash for 10% what will happen when it is down 20%?”

8:50 a.m. That is still the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen (train+truck)

For three days Morning Joe has been tweaking Rush and then tweaking Republicans who don’t stand up to him. Yesterday they Mocked Michael Steele for backing off of his attack on Rush.

Yesterday Rush now that the White House has elevated him to leader of the Republican Party challenged him to a one on one debate on his show. Blog reaction has been strong. I was interested in seeing what Morning Joe had to say about this today.

They played the challenge that Rush issued up front but pooh poohed it in 30 seconds. They then played a clip of Michael Steele on Hannity and said the following. This caused Joe Scarborough to say the following about picking Steele for party chairman:

6:14 a.m. “Sometimes being black isn’t enough.

This is an amazing statement coming from a MSNBC show. The media has been grovelling all over Obama and the “historic” nature of his presidency. What is historic about it? His skin color. During the campaign the networks elevated him to messianic status, they proclaimed him JFK/FDR & Lincoln over and over again. CNN & MSNBC both have a first 100 days watch. And yet again today it is noted that no jokes are made about him. Meanwhile the economy continues to tank and in under 60 days more spending is proposed than for the previous two centuries.

All of this has happened and Joe Scarborough tells the RNC that Being Black isn’t enough for Michael Steele to lead them? And nobody says a word on it?

Let’s come out and say it: Being Black is apparently enough to immunize you from any critique serious or comic if you are this liberal president.

Being Black is NOT enough if you are a republican.

Being Black is enough if you are a liberal senator from Illinois who seems to have interesting connections to a disgraced ex governor or a liberal representative who keeps thousands hidden in his freezer.

Being Black isn’t enough if you would be the first Black Governor of Pennsylvania or Ohio and you are a republican. Or how about William Lucas:

A few years before, there was a black gubernatorial nominee in my home state of Michigan. His name was William Lucas. Not many said that he would be the first black governor since Reconstruction (he would have been). No one said that the election was a test of the racial maturity of Michigan voters. Nope — Lucas was a conservative Republican, and therefore he didn’t count, in liberal eyes, as black. He was denounced by all the usual forces, and in the usual ways: “sellout,” etc. And he lost — to a garden-variety white liberal (Jim Blanchard, who was later Bill Clinton’s ambassador to Canada). Ho-hum.

This is racism. Obama is their token who absolves them from their sins so he is celebrated. Steele, Sowell or Williams challenge them on their ideas, they are ignored or rejected.

If the media in general or MSNBC in particular isn’t ashamed, it’s only because they have lost the capacity to be ashamed.

Oh and BTW if anything happens because of Mr. Scarborough’s statement it will be because he is the sole Republican of any stature on MSNBC. He can be safely targeted. He is their token. They can always get another token.

Update: Like Meucci it’s not who is first it is who is quoted first.
