Joe was flabbergasted today

When a republican congresswoman didn’t buckle under on his insistence that there are no “death panels” in the healthcare bill. The whole group around the table almost didn’t know what to say.

They seem to be obsessed with the fact that the words “Death Panels and “Euthanasia” are not listed in the bill. After all Sarah Palin said it, it MUST be false. If I may be so bold to suggest to these experienced pols and reporters there is precedent for something being misnamed to wit:

Sir Humphrey: East Yemen isn’t that a democracy?

Dick from the Foreign Office: It’s full name is the People’s Democratic Republic of East Yemen.

Sir Humphrey: Oh I see so it’s a Communist Dictatorship.

The actual clip comes at about 2:53 in this bit:

I think Yes Prime Minister should be required watching for anyone who follows politics.

Today on Morning Joe Scarborough asked Carl Bernstein about this article that asked: “Could Afghanistan become Obama’s Vietnam?”

The great liberal lion of a reporter answered emphatically No!

Well there is this wonderful time machine called google and if you do a search for Afghanistan and Vietnam and exclude the words Obama and 2009 there are 18 million results..

They started right away in October 2001 from small sites to more famous writers like R. W. Apple in the New York Times and continue to Anti-war dot com in November.

And it continued through the years from John Pilger in the new statesman, Ted Kennedy in 2005 and all the other usual suspects.

Only Antiwar.com still carries the flag. I checked Vietnam Vet’s against the war. They haven’t had a press release since Mid 2008. I’ve sent them an e-mail on the subject and will let you know what they say.

I wonder what might be different today as compared to the last 8 years?

How Clueless is Joe Scarborough lately?

…He actually called Mitt Romney the leader of the republican party and called upon him to restrain Sarah Palin.

I’m so glad I wasn’t drinking when I saw it.

In fairness Joe has been pretty reasonable today, I woke up early and he has made some good points today from the right and has beaten democrats with the “filibuster proof majority” stick all day.

But Mr #25,538 is smoking something if he think Mitt is leading anything. He is playing Duck and Cover.

That was almost as funny as this line from Howard Kurtz:

Perhaps journalists are no more trusted than politicians these days, or many folks never saw the knockdown stories

perhaps, PERHAPS? Ya THINK!

Update: Stop the ACLU goes after Kurtz’s entire column.

The reason why I don’t liveblog Morning Joe anymore is stuff like this.

Republican Joe Scarborough purported to have his finger on the pulse of Republicans across the country today when he declared that they were uniformly rejecting Sarah Palin and her “hard, hard, hard right” conservative views.

Conservatives for Palin elaborates:

The Democratic controlled Senate Finance Committee didn’t seem to think the “death panels” were so ridiculous when they removed the provision from the Senate version of the health care bill.

Is there an agenda here?

Joe Scarborough ignored Governor Palin’s meticulously cited statements and thoughtful arguments, and went directly to the same false stereotypes that are frequently repeated on liberal blogs…

Scarborough’s agenda became clear when he said, “She ain’t going to burn up Iowa anymore”. He would like to present himself and his political philosophy as the correct alternative to “extreme right wingers” like Sarah Palin.

Well lets see if his book is the alternate opinion based on his Amazon Sales rank today

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #28,738 in Books

That’s after two months, how about looking at that inciter of people Mark Levin he likes Palin?

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #31 in Books

That’s after 5 months, how about Dick Morris who I’m not a big fan of myself:

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #47 in Books

Dick’s book came out two weeks after Joe, How about Michelle?

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #14 in Books

Her book is a month old, and finally how about Glenn Beck, he must be tanking with all those boycotts right?

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #9 in Books

That one came out within 3 days of your book didn’t it Joe?

Well it’s not as if she can stay on offense against this administration since the people don’t support her, oh wait:

For years, states rich with an abundance of oil and natural gas have been begging Washington, DC politicians for the right to develop their own natural resources on federal lands and off shore. Such development would mean good paying jobs here in the United States (with health benefits) and the resulting royalties and taxes would provide money for federal coffers that would potentially off-set the need for higher income taxes, reduce the federal debt and deficits, or even help fund a trillion dollar health care plan if one were so inclined to support such a plan.

So why is it that during these tough times, when we have great needs at home, the Obama White House is prepared to send more than two billion of your hard-earned tax dollars to Brazil so that the nation’s state-owned oil company, Petrobras, can drill off shore and create jobs developing its own resources? That’s all Americans want; but such rational energy development has been continually thwarted by rabid environmentalists, faceless bureaucrats and a seemingly endless parade of lawsuits aimed at shutting down new energy projects.

I wonder if this is going to get coverage Joe? Likely a lot more than your book.

Update: Joe I hate to tell you this, you have the symptoms of Sullivan’s Syndrome. Seek help now

Update 2: I’ve added some links to coverage of Palin’s latest facebook and will continue to do so as the day goes on.

Update: 3 Marx doesn’t compete too well either
