Why Morning Joe is the most important show on TV

One side effect of my unemployment has been rising early so I’ve been able to watch Morning Joe every day.

It is a very enjoyable show, I liveblog it almost every day. Joe and Mika have incredible chemistry and except when Andrea Mitchel who I can’t abide is on the guest just click together, Willie, Pat and even on occasion the Doc just work.

They are not shy about disagreeing with each other and they are principled even when I disagree with them. Mika reminds me of my wife, she is not only a handsome woman but she has her opinions and is not afraid to defend them and I get the sense that she is above all the mother of her children. Joe is the only republican hosting anything on MSNBC.

Because of the very tilted lineup over there this is the one show where a republican can get anything near a fair shake over there. In addition to that democratic pols are actually challenged on things, and because the rest of the lineup is so fawning they feel obliged not to duck them.

Stories that are often totally ignored by all the MSN except for Fox are often touched briefly there. Once Morning Joe touches it other outlets that try to pretend that Fox news isn’t news can be hit over ignoring such stories. In addition their much more conservative radio show goes even farther and is referenced on the show. Conservative opinions that are never heard by many get aired by them.

It is the best chance for conservatives to make their points in the mainstream media and as the Pelosi immigration story proves, if there is no video there is no story.

Oh and today Joe mentioned that Barney Frank won’t come on the show, that says something.

These guys are loaded for bear today

6:05 a.m. They are already hitting Dodd, Frank and the administration and congress.

6:10 a.m. Joe points out that yesterday the US spent more money than the entire amount of the ENTIRE Iraq war.

6:12 a.m. Your eyes are not deceiving you this is MSNBC!

6:27 a.m. The Easter egg e-mail was priceless

6:39 a.m. OMG they are quoting Barney Frank from 2003. Lawrence O’Donnell is spinning furiously.

6:41 a.m. Barney Frank WILL NOT come on Morning Joe. This must be the only MSNBC show that he won’t come on.

6:43 a.m. They bring up that AIG was one of Senator Obama’s biggest contributes.

6:45 a.m. “Barney Frank has gotten away with murder.” no wonder he won’t come on. O’Donnell is still spinning.

7:02 a.m. Sports gave time to get the dishes washed and other stuff done. Back to the show.

7:08 a.m. They are going to have to get up at 1:30 a.m. EST to do the show on the west coast.

7:10 a.m. Well he is going to go to be on Leno during a crisis it’s not like he was going to play golf or something.

7:12 a.m. Apparently from now on we do have to pay taxes to be in treasury.

7:13 a.m. Tucker asks the forbidden question: “Would a Clinton administration have been this disorganized?”

7:15 a.m. O’Donnell should get combat pay for this appearance. He is spinning again, Mika backs him up.

7:28 a.m. Myers complements the president on keeping Gates.

7:30 a.m. O’Donnell hits Myers on Cheney, Myers defends. O’Donnell asks if he thinks Cheney thinks only he could have defended the country, Myers answer he should be proud of their record.

7:32 a.m. He points out that in theater the troops were full of confidence, while in the beltway it was all doom and gloom.

7:38 a.m. They didn’t quote a republican on that series of quotes.

7:39 a.m. This was in the bill that nobody could read. Cantor is putting the nail in the coffin.

7:44 a.m. O’Donnell is on full attack mode on Cantor it’s his only chance to fight back.

7:45 a.m. O’Donnell is still attacking but is looking very bad.

7:57 a.m. That was a low blow, her ancestry is polish.

8:00 a.m. Time is now spinning.

8:02 a.m. The 3d glasses make them all look like characters out of the doctor who episode The War Games.

8:07 a.m. How do you call saying I didn’t do something and then saying the opposite a “change in position”. Under oath that would be called perjury.

8:11 a.m. If Dodd has lost Tina Brown he’s lost the left.

8:19 a.m. Does Eric Idle get a buck for the Rutles reference?

8:28 a.m. Just to remind the president; Hamilton became sec of treasury 6 years after the Revolutionary war ended.

8:29 a.m. Oh and we can start the Geitner resignation watch now. When a president says he has “complete confidence” that means his days are numbered.

8:35 a.m. Elizabeth Warren is making a lot of friends on this show.

8:37 a.m. She makes the best case for regulation that I’ve heard yet.

8:45 a.m. James Mann on Reagan will it be an attack or a celebration?

8:52 a.m. Colin Powell didn’t want Reagan to say “Tear down this wall.” I’m so shocked.

Morning Joe Shocked Shocked

Everyone is all upset about these bonus but none of them seem to be willing to hold the congress that voted for it responsible.

7:18 a.m. Along with the veterans thing this is going put the final nail in the honeymoon coffin.

7:20 a.m. Nobody asked the congresswoman why she voted for that thing.

7:27 a.m. Chuck explains the efficiency of government oversight.

7:30 a.m. They wont lie to me. HA HA HA HA HA HAH HA HA HA HA

8:07 a.m. Had to run an errand, Mika with the head of the playboy magazine empire must have been fun.

8:09 a.m. Whoever they are talking to right not nailed it. They all voted for it and are now all shocked.

8:09 a.m. John Shadegg is nailing congress big time.

8:11 a.m. “One of the things about the new media is we can see the clips of Barney actually saying there is nothing wrong with Fannie & Freddy.” You want a leader of the republican party here it is.

8:13 a.m. “You can ask these questions but having the questions covered is another thing.” This guy is on fire.

8:15 a.m. Boy I came back at the right time.

8:19 a.m. O’Donnell says what I think, the use of the tax code is rather nasty, and it might be unconstitutional. Then again that might be the whole idea.

8:21 a.m. Bayh announces a new moderate group in the senate to try to keep things sane. Mika doesn’t look happy. She really doesn’t look like herself today.

8:34 a.m. Ian McShane looks good in Kings but he was great in Jesus of Nazareth.

8:41 a.m. Tribal? He must not know about the Redsox Yankees.

8:52 a.m. Wasn’t the doc just on the show a week ago talking about not taking expensive tests on small things?

Morning Joe AIG outrage

The outrage comes but that is the bill we HAD to pass.

6:08 a.m. The argument to justify the Bonus’ is being made. It reminds me of a 50 year old family fight over a piece of property.

6:14 a.m. Might as well have fun when you are the white house press secretary. Just remember we boys never truly grow up.

6:18 a.m. The Seattle PI decided to insult half of their potential customers, so I’m not going to cry a tear. This is not being mentioned by anyone on this show.

6:21 a.m. A contract is a contract is a contract of course if we let them going into bankruptcy then the contract could have been broken

6:34 a.m. The LA times makes my point.

6:37 a.m. The NYT reveals the shocking idea that a business is using the law for their advantage. They favored the bailouts as i recall.

6:41 a.m. “Previous Administration”, “Previous Administration”, “Previous Administration”; sounds like a parrot.

7:05 a.m. When you can’t answer a man like Cheney you attack Limbaugh.

7:09 a.m. Yeah he is fun but who cares if he is being an ass.

7:14 a.m. Grassley is talking like a nut.

7:26 a.m. “I’m all in favor of dissidents I’m not in favor of criminals!” That is the best statement I’ve ever heard a secretary of state make. Kudos for Mrs. Clinton for saying it out loud!

7:49 a.m. Maria of the beautiful Italian eyes (sigh) regretfully admits that the bonus have to be paid due to contract. No Italian American like myself can look at eyes like that and not melt.

8:16 a.m. Cummings is correct that White collar workers are treated differently than blue collar workers, this is due to $$$ donated.

8:35 a.m Tone matters

8:51 a.m. Sinise story here is awesome. He has the oomph to get this on a show like this.
