It has to be.

The Holy Name of Jesus Christ is a challenge, it’s a challenge to the world, it’s a challenge to individuals and it’s a challenge to those who profess to believe in his name.

It provokes Willie Geist to feature it as the joke of the week on Morning Joe, it causes MSNBC and the media to have a conniption, it produces snark in the media, discomfort for those who know it’s meaning, violence. from those who oppose it.

When used to describe the son of God it brings Islamists to a murderous rage, produces jokes on South Park and Family Guy (although in fairness south park doesn’t spare Muslims either), is parodied in film for fun and profit and causes actual demons and devils to retreat.

When Hume said:

‘Jesus Christ’ the ‘Most Controversial Two Words You Can Ever Utter in the Public Square’ Today

he was stating nothing that Christ himself didn’t say as we’ve quoted here before

If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you. Remember the word I spoke to you, ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin; but as it is they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me also hates my Father. If I had not done works among them that no one else ever did, they would not have sin; but as it is, they have seen and hated both me and my Father. John 15:18-24

Let’s be blunt, there are two sides in the battle for souls, and one particular side is going to do all it can to keep souls from finding the truth. All the powers, pleasures and pains of the world will be brought to bear against you to keep you from it.

I know I’ve been beating this horse to death but it is one of the most important things a Christian in general and a Catholic in particular needs to understand. Christianity is a challenge to yourself and to others. When done correctly it can inspire many to salvation, when done poorly it can do the opposite. It is diametrically opposed to the world, it’s belief system is an absolute:

Jesus Christ is the son of God, he died and rose from the dead for the forgiveness of sins!

It is either true or false. If you believe this to be false you are not a Christian, period. If you claim to believe it is true but act as if it is false then you have to resolve some issues. As C.S. Lewis said in Mere Christianity:

I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: “I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.” That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic-on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg-or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronising nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.

Brit Hume has publicly made his choice. You and I have the rest of our lives to make ours…

…after that we’re on our own.

…by featuring Mike Allen’s “Scoop” concerning Sarah Palin that she actually wrote all about in her book months ago.

After a long segment pushing this scoop. Willie gives one sentence as Allen fades acknowledging that Palin already wrote about these things.

I guess they are trying to cover themselves a-la Luke in Yes Prime Minister buried in a 189 page report on one paragraph on page 107.

Why do I get the feeling that someone in the place saw the instapundit link this morning just before it was broadcast and fed Willie that fact about the book just in time to cover him?

You know there is a reason why MSNBC is in last place, it’s stuff like this.

…so maybe you could drop the moral superiority business on the most Republican war ever fought that you had no part in fighting or winning 145 years ago.

Kathleen Parker pushed that smear herself back in August during an especially insulting segment on why Palin fares well in the south while Obama doesn’t, but it’s a treat to see it paired this time with a blind assertion that the disintegrating Democrats are the true party o’ the people.

In fairness I shouldn’t say “we” since my ancestors were all in Sicily but I’m a Massachusetts man and the monument in the center of my city is a Union monument and the graves on the hill are full of Union dead, so I’ll say “we” with that stipulation.

The south is part of the union. If we didn’t want the south in the union we would have let them go. If you are looking for bigots, you’d better pull out a mirror.

their coverage will follow:

David Almasi, executive director of the National Center For Public Policy Research, kept a log of commercials aired during the ABC World News broadcast from June 24th to October 12, a period of approximately three-and-a-half months following ABC’s rejection of health care-related ads from Conservatives for Patients’ Rights.20 The results are as follows:

In July, 173 of 326 commercials, or 53 percent, were PhRMA company advertisements. In August, 176 of 321 commercials, or 54.8 percent, were PhRMA. In September, 156 of 293, or 53.24 percent, were PhRMA commercials. Of the eight days in October analyzed, 45 out of 80 commercials, or 56.25 percent, were PhRMA company ads.

The grand total? In the 98 days of ABC World News programming analyzed from June to October, the broadcast featured 1,102 commercials, 597 of which were PhRMA member company advertisements, representing 54.17 percent of total commercials aired.

Notes Almasi, “Ad after ad on World News came from members of the drug lobby group PhRMA. It’s almost laughable how many ads they run each day. If they were to stop, it would seem doubtful the broadcasts could continue.”

The data, representing months of recording and logging of ABC World News commercials viewed in the Washington D.C. market, reveal an astonishing double layer of hypocrisy. ABC News, in spite of its morally superior affectations against “advocacy ads,” is perfectly willing to turn over large chunks of its news programming to a politician – if that politician is backed by companies representing more than half its advertisements.

You might recall ABC shrugged off charges that they did not or would not bring any opposing view to the broadcast in question.

Never forget that the broadcast networks revenue source is. Their product is an ad platform, PERIOD! Over the last 15 years the number of choices (read ad platforms) have increased and thus the need to have that guaranteed source of income becomes vital.

Remember the Quiz Show scandals:

The firestorm that resulted, claimed Variety, “injured broadcasting more than anything ever before in the public eye.” Even the sainted Edward R. Murrow was sullied when it was revealed that his celebrity interview show, CBS’s Person to Person, provided guests with questions in advance. Perhaps most significantly in terms of the future shape of commercial television, the quiz show scandals made the networks forever leery of “single sponsorship” programming. (emphasis mine) Henceforth, they parceled out advertising time in fifteen, thirty, and sixty-second increments, wrenching control away from single sponsors and advertising agencies.

Forever is apparently not all that it’s cracked up to be.

If any of this surprises you, then it is very likely you haven’t been paying attention.
