5 Years ago in Red Sox history…A-Rod

Again looking back at that 2004 season the news this week was A-Rod going to the Yankees. Baseball Musings said the following:

Soriano for Rodriguez is a great deal, especially since money doesn’t matter to the Yankees. It’s the wrong move in terms of defense; Jeter is the one who should move. And of course, who’s going to play 2nd?

Actually, they are going to score so many runs they can probably get by without a second baseman. A murder’s row of A-Rod, Giambi and Sheffield (in any order you choose), surrounded by Jeter, Posada, Williams and Matsui. All Lofton and the new second baseman have to do is play defense.

You think Boston fans are a little upset?

He linked to Bambino’s Curse which had this to say…

The word according to Theo,

“We talk about a player’s makeup, but what we want to know is, `Is he a good teammate?'” — Theo Epstein (Holley, Globe).

As it shall be spoken, so it will be done.

With the advantage of hindsight we note that the Red Sox have won two world series since the A-Rod trade. That is two more than the Yankees have made it to.

verb: derived from the Red Dwarf episode Beyond a Joke where the concept of Lister wanting Ketchup served with his Lobster causes his head to explode as shown here.

1. The state caused when an event is so shocking to the system that it causes the head to spontaneously explode.

2. The act of one’s head exploding over events that can’t be processed.

3. The current state of Obama supporters who might now be realizing that he had less experience and legislative ability than Dan Quayle; by a LOT.

…that blogs were worrying about Curt Schilling’s comments on strike zones and writing how Tim Wakefield was worried that he wouldn’t be able to show his face in Boston?

We’ll flash back every now and again to that glorious year full of surprises.

A ctrl-center surprise

Had to run to Office Max to get some ink for my Brother MFC 665CW since I have an interview on Thursday and need to print some items.

It was the first time I’d been in an OfficeMax since HiWired went under and was later bought out. Considering that Plum Choice picked them up I was a little taken aback to see the old Ctrl-Center packaging and the old boxes sitting there. Same products same offers and the same price points.

Very little promotion other than the small display and nothing on the web site.

Can’t vouch for the quality of the services, as they are US based I suspect they are likely ok.

Kind of sad to see it all and think back to the old place and what could have been. Of course HiWired exists now as a part of Radialpoint with some good people there. If you have to get service and you don’t use DaTechGuy I’d go there first myself.
