don’t think for one minute that the president would be defying his leftist friends if he didn’t need to recover from their pushback.

In a move that could help win Republican support for other energy initiatives, President Obama will announce plans Wednesday to open large sections of the eastern Gulf of Mexico and an area off the Virginia coast for oil and natural gas drilling.

“To set America on a path to energy independence, the president believes we must leverage our diverse domestic resources by pursuing a comprehensive energy strategy,” said a statement provided by an administration official

Wrong reason or right reason aside, it is the right policy, particularly in a time of high unemployment and it should be supported and encouraged, particularly when done by a president on the left.

The Lonely conservatives thinks it might be to get votes on cap and tax. We’ll see.

She’s not just on facebook, Palin says Drill…

…at NRO:

We rely on petroleum for much more than just powering our vehicles: It is essential in everything from jet fuel to petrochemicals, plastics to fertilizers, pesticides to pharmaceuticals. According to the Energy Information Administration, our total domestic petroleum consumption last year was 19.5 million barrels per day (bpd). Motor gasoline and diesel fuel accounted for less than 13 million bpd of that. Meanwhile, we produced only 4.95 million bpd of domestic crude. In other words, even if we ran all our vehicles on something else (which won’t happen anytime soon), we would still have to depend on imported oil. And we’ll continue that dependence until we develop our own oil resources to their fullest extent.

To pretend we can do without oil is to marry a fantasy. With the weak dollar the need to use our own resources is even more urgent. Not to mention the jobs it produces during a time of very high unemployment. She concludes thusly:

Alternative sources of energy are part of the answer, but only part. There’s no getting around the fact that we still need to “drill, baby, drill!” And if those in D.C. say otherwise, we need to tell them: “Yes, we can!”

Like the daily beast says, she’s not going anywhere.

Under $25 over?

The president is putting on hold presidential orders put out by George Bush. One in particular is going to cost us.

Less than a year ago this was a major issue and the majority of Americans Obama now presumes to lead wanted domestic production increased where possible while we continued to develop new alternatives. Is he listening to the people, or the usual special interest groups?

Change!

WASHINGTON, Jan 21 (Reuters)- U.S. President Barack Obama may order a hold on a proposal issued in the final days of the Bush administration to expand offshore drilling in previously banned areas, an Interior Department official told Reuters on Wednesday.

Lets hope that the operative word in that story is may. I just paid under $25 to fill my tank on my 99 LeSabre. If that changes due to drilling restrictions re-imposed it will rightly cost seats in the congress. I think the blue dogs aren’t going to stand for it.
