You might recall in my dissertation on Bloggers Alzheimer’s I said the following:

Like regular Alzheimer patients some brief periods of lucidity may emerge (re Iran) but when exposed to the “external threat” again (re: Palin) the syndrome re-asserts itself. And the patient will often make an object of adoration of any opponent of the external threat.

Andrew proves both points, the first to his credit:

I’ve noticed a few right-of-center blogs complaining of double standards on the left, in the denunciations of extremist rhetoric and imagery of the Tea Party marches. Ed Driscoll has a good point. The extremes of the anti-war left before Iraq were every bit as inflammatory and loopy as the Tea Partiers today. Now, they were opposing a war that turned out to be a catastrophe for all involved, while the Tea Partiers are just opposing the working poor having a chance to buy health insurance. But if Godwin’s Law is the point, many (but not all) on the left currently do not have a leg to stand on.

Full marks to Sullivan for backing up Ed Driscoll and others who have not thrown the left’s marches down the memory hole.

Those brief moments of lucidity are precious to those who deal with Bloggers Alzheimer’s and it is welcome, but when the trigger returns so does the disease:

Some remaining questions: When exactly did Todd find out about the pregnancy? And when did he discover that his son had Down Syndrome? Or were those two pieces of news delivered simultaneously? Why did the Palins make no attempt to prepare their other children for Trig’s special needs when they had so long to do so? Why on earth did Palin believe that the mere fact of her pregnancy would elicit criticism and disdain – “Oh, the criticism that I knew was coming” – when it would obviously actually redound to her credit as a working mom and governor?

I’m taking a risk with this link and quote but I’m an old hand with Sullivan’s syndrome so don’t try this at home, remember the warning:

No current treatment is known for Sullivan’s syndrome but readers are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to the subject as the syndrome can spread to the point where the infected person can become the trigger for the syndrome in others.

So be careful.

A: Why deception of course.

It’s a high complement to Sarah Palin and a perfect illustration of the weakness of the left in the marketplace of ideas. How else can the ideas of the left advance if not by deception?

Update: Captain Ed agrees completely in substance to wit:

Would “the most honest account” have to be wrapped in a deceptive cover, intended to confuse consumers into buying the wrong book? If it doesn’t start out with an honest approach, why should we trust that the same people who made that decision will be honest inside the covers? For an answer to that, we only need see the list of essayists included in this rehash of old Palin-opposing material, who include such straight-arrow observers as Amanda Marcotte, Max Blumenthal, Eve Ensler, and Jane Hamsher. Hamsher made her biggest political splash when she put Joe Lieberman in blackface during his re-election campaign. Marcotte got fired from the Edwards campaign for her vilification of religious believers in language bad enough to actually embarrass Edwards — and given Edwards’ history, that’s saying something indeed.

Alas he does not link, how dare he not hang on my every word! Doesn’t he know I’m a techie typing from the corner of my couch? (;c)

A: The Personal Computer , The Affordable Digital Camera, and the Internet because it makes it impossible to hide stuff like this:

Notice the applause about letting old people die. Amazing how liberals have so much compassion for people who are trying to kill us but not so much for their elders? This was not a cultural norm two generations ago.

But we shouldn’t call them death panels, since Sarah Palin called them that it must be wacko. Can we call it a Tallywacker?

There is a reason why the least free societies have the most restrictions on the net to keep people from seeing/hearing “Those Damn Pictures/video audio clips

The answer to Monique’s question

In her post in defense of Robert Stacy McCain Monique Stewart asks a question:

I have never quite understood why the left hates Sarah Palin so much and can’t leave her the hell alone. Who cares if she wrote a book and who cares who helped her write it? She’s the FORMER vice presidential candidate. The election has been over for almost a year. Give it a rest, already!

The answer is because she is a reality in a world of leftist fantasy.

Much of the lefts agenda depends on deception and misdirection. Like a good magician the left needs to keep the eyes away from the slight of hand that is taking place. This is the reason why they Hate Rush, this is the reason why the left needed to keep the Tea Party stuff suppressed and marginalized. The surest way to turn people away from them is for them to see what they actually are. Thus they champion American Values when they don’t actually embody them.

Conversely they have to keep them away from anything that is real, and that is Sarah Palin all over. Let’s take a look at ScrewTape Letters for a sec compare. In this particular letter Screwtape is complaining how he allowed the soul he was tempting to realize the reality of his situation:

And now for your blunders. On your own showing you first of all allowed the patient to read a book he really enjoyed, because he enjoyed it and not in order
to make clever remarks about it to his new friends. In the second place, you allowed him to walk down to the old mill and have tea there—a walk through country he really likes, and taken alone. In other words you allowed him two real positive Pleasures.

Sarah Palin is a real member of the Middle Class, a working mother who ran for Mayor to change things and slowly gained power.

Were you so ignorant as not to see the danger of this? The characteristic of Pains and Pleasures is that they are unmistakably real, and therefore, as far as they go, give the man who feels them a touchstone of reality.

Sarah Palin has done this while raising a family of 5 and more than that she given the choice of having an abortion or giving birth to a down syndrome child gave birth. This is in direct contradiction to what we are told. This more than anything else is the reason why trig truthers NEED this to be false.

Thus if you had been trying to damn your man by the Romantic method—by making him a kind of Childe Harold or Werther submerged in self-pity for imaginary distresses—you would try to protect him at all costs from any real pain; because, of course, five minutes’ genuine toothache would reveal the romantic sorrows for the nonsense they were and unmask your whole stratagem.

Shades of Gloria Reuben here.

But you were trying to damn your patient by the World, that is by palming off vanity, bustle, irony, and expensive tedium as pleasures. How can you have failed to see that a real pleasure was the last thing you ought to have let him meet? Didn’t you foresee that it would just kill by contrast all the trumpery which you have been so laboriously teaching him to value?

This is a great description of the difference between President Obama and Sarah Palin. When you actually compare their respective accomplishments the president still can’t compare and that’s with 10 months in office. When you compare how the two of them rose it illustrates it even more.

And that the sort of pleasure which the book and the walk gave him was the most dangerous of all? That it would peel off from his sensibility the kind of crust you have beenforming on it, and make him feel that he was coming home, recovering himself? As a preliminary to detaching him from the Enemy, you wanted to detach him from himself, and had made some progress in doing so.

They know that if the public actually sees Palin as she is and not as they want her to be seen, if they see the reality instead of the Hollywood endorsed fantasy that they have created they might be shocked out of their lethargy. That’s why they hate her use of facebook to give her message.

Now, all that is undone.

It’s not undone yet and unlike Wormwood the left and their media allies are not going to let it happen if it can still be stopped.

Her very life is a total repudiation of their religion of dependency and narcissism. Like Reagan she is a reminder of not just what American is and can be but what THEY AS INDIVIDUALS CAN BE. She must be stopped at all costs.

That’s why.
