Here comes that Kryten moment for those on the left (Hi Andrew) who were sure that George Bush was going to impose a religious test for free speech:

While attracting surprisingly little attention, the Obama administration supported the effort of largely Muslim nations in the U.N. Human Rights Council to recognize exceptions to free speech for any “negative racial and religious stereotyping.” The exception was made as part of a resolution supporting free speech that passed this month, but it is the exception, not the rule that worries civil libertarians. Though the resolution was passed unanimously, European and developing countries made it clear that they remain at odds on the issue of protecting religions from criticism. It is viewed as a transparent bid to appeal to the “Muslim street” and our Arab allies, with the administration seeking greater coexistence through the curtailment of objectionable speech. Though it has no direct enforcement (and is weaker than earlier versions), it is still viewed as a victory for those who sought to juxtapose and balance the rights of speech and religion.

I guess all you folks who took that idiotic Blasphemy challenge (which doesn’t actually work by the way) better watch out for Eric Holder and not Benedict XVI or George Bush.

To steal a line from Glenn from who this comes… They told me that if I supported Sarah Palin that free speech would be suppressed in favor of religious speech and they were right!

If there was ever a time that we will find out if the Obamacult is real this is it.

How to understand the elites in both parties and Hollywood

You have to think of the way things were back in the middle ages and before.

You had a group of elites. Some were wise some were not, they got their wealth from inheritances of lands granted by royalty and lived off the labor of the tenants on the land.

They would patronize entertainers and artists and scientists. Those people would humor their patrons who were amateurs in their fields in order to maintain their funding and comfort. They would also have squires and knights who would serve them and depend on their largess for their place in society.

These Lords would compete with other lords for the favor of the king and the largess that he would supply them, but the King also knew that if the Lords turned on him they would be another Royal house in charge.

Since wealth wasn’t the big issue the primary worry was status. Who was considered the most important.

Because they were elites they also enjoyed the king protection when their actions crossed lines of propriety.

And beneath all of these people were the freedman, the tradesmen, the serfs and the slaves, they actually grew the foods and created the tools and did the work and saw the majority of it. They were expected to do the work, pay the taxes and not complain.

When you wonder about Hollywood and Polanski, about the White House’s attack on Fox, about reporters sucking up to Letterman and Polanski, about networks pandering to the president, about the NRCC and the New York 23rd, about conservatives becoming big spenders and about CPAC west and their treatment of John Ziegler, keep the above in mind and it will all make sense to you.

Why it is necessary for Rush to take legal action…

Allahpundit’s opinion not withstanding we need Rush to play Conan instead of Captain America. John Hawkins is mostly right:

Conservatives are too forgiving. If you listened to the left you’d think that conservatives were violent, easily inflamed mobs of fiendish KKK/Nazi/Taliban hybrids. Meanwhile, no one seems to be the least bit scared of offending conservatives in any way, shape, or form.

The mainstream media treats conservatives like something they scraped off the bottom of their shoe. Hollywood stars who desperately need conservatives to watch their movies openly mock conservative values and Keith Olbermann can co-host Football Night In America, while Rush Limbaugh is being told he can’t even invest in the NFL. It’s doesn’t matter what people say about conservatives, the way we get treated tells you that we’re not commanding any respect.

So here’s a thought: Maybe conservatives should actually start raising a lot more hell about issues like this one. When Hollywood, the NFL, and the mainstream media conclude that conservatives aren’t suckers who will still hand them money even as they’re insulted, maybe the insults will stop.

Let me conclude by saying that Rush Limbaugh can take the heat. At the end of the day all this means is that he’s going to be able to spend huge sums of money on something other than a NFL team. Moreover, there’s nothing unusual about corporations steering clear of political controversy. That’s something that everyone in this profession just has to accept.

Yet and still, it’s the double standard here that grates. No matter what the situation may be, it always seems like there is one set of rules for conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and a much more lenient, convenient set of rules for liberals.

If conservatives do nothing else in the next few years — well, besides taking back Congress and defeating Barack Obama — we should insist on an end to that double standard.emphasis mine

oh we have to INSIST? oh that will put the fear of God in them.

Earth to conservatism as long as the cost of doing this stuff is only small apologies and off air twitters they will keep doing it.

As Glenn Reynolds has often said when you reward behavior you get more of it. Until there is a tangible cost to this stuff it will continue to happen. You don’t even have to always win, you just have to make them pay a cost they are unwilling to pay.

Q: What is the Obama version of Shock and Awe?

A: The US administration is in shock and our foes say Awwwwwwww.

Five years ago, Ghaddafi fell all over himself to put himself in the good graces of the US after watching us uproot Saddam Hussein from a rathole in Tikrit. He disclosed Libya’s nascent nuclear program and its connection to the AQ Khan network and dismantled it, sending us the parts for verification. He pledged to fight international terrorism and stop supporting it.

Now, in the era of “smart power” and reset buttons, Ghaddafi not only releases radical Islamist terrorists, he announces to the world that he’s letting al-Qaeda terrorists get back to the battlefield. Iraq certainly has to worry that the AQI terrorists will return to bolster the tattered remnants of the foreign insurgency, which has been all but forgotten of late here in the US with the Afghanistan question still left unresolved. Of course, Libya will let the Afghanistan-based AQ terrorists get back to that battlefield, too.

Ah the joys of Obama.
