Islamic man threating to kill convert daughter in Ohio?

17 year old Rifqa Bary ran away from her family in Ohio in fear for her life:

Rifqa Bary pleaded with a DCF case worker to let her stay with Pastor Blake Lorenz from the Global Revolution Church. The 17-year-old girl from Ohio claims her father has threatened to kill her because she has converted to Christianity and rejected her family’s Muslim faith.

“They have to kill me, because I’m a Christian, it’s an honor. If they love me more than God then they have to kill me,” she said.

Her father has gone to Florida to try to get custody back:

Mohamed Bary came to Florida to try and bring his daughter back home and denied the allegations.

“Did you threaten to kill your daughter because she converted to Christianity?” Nguyen asked.

“No, no,” responded Mohamed Bary.

However, Rifqa Bary insists that’s not the case.

“This is not just threats this is reality. This is truth,” she said.

In one year of course this will all be moot when she turns 18. But I can’t see where she would get such a crazy idea about Islam.

What Miracles? Oh that Miracle

Via the Curt Jester a great reminder of what is called willing suspension of disbelief:

“All the cloths similar to the Tilma that have been placed in the salty and humid environment around the Basilica have lasted no more than ten years,” he explained. One painting of the miraculous image, created in 1789, was on display in a church near the basilica where the Tilma was placed. “This painting was made with the best techniques of its time, the copy was beautiful and made with a fabric very similar to that of the Tilma. Also, the image was protected with a glass since it was first placed there.”

However, eight years later, the copy of the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was thrown away because the colors were fading and threads were breaking. In contrast, Orozco said, “the original Tilma was exposed for approximately 116 years without any kind of protection, receiving all the infrared and ultraviolet radiation from the tens of thousands of candles near it and exposed to the humid and salty air around the temple.”

He also notes one other issue;

The second miracle was the explosion of a bomb near the Tilma in 1921. Dr. Orozco recalled that the explosion broke the marble floor and widows 150 meters from the explosion, but “unexpectedly, neither the Tilma nor the normal glass that protected the Tilma was damaged or broken.” The only damage near it was a brass crucifix that was twisted by the blast.

He continued, “There are no explanations why the shockwave that broke windows 150 meters afar did not destroy the normal glass that protected the image. Some people said that the Son by means of the brass crucifix protected the image of His Mother. The real fact is that we don’t have a natural explanation for this event.”

Of course we all know how well things are preserved in the heat of Mexico for hundreds of years before air conditioning etc.

The denial of this stuff is the real leap of faith.

You know that in a district where there hasn’t been a republican congressman since 1890 and is 64% black it might be politically necessary for a newly elected republican to support the president on some key issues. Even if Abortion is paid for in it..

But Don Surber reports that when congressman Anh Cao says he is a Catholic, unlike say a John Kerry or a Nancy Pelosi he means it:

“Being a Jesuit, I very much adhere to the notion of social justice, ” Cao said. “I do fully understand the need of providing everyone with access to health care, but to me personally, I cannot be privy to a law that will allow the potential of destroying thousands of innocent lives.

“I know that voting against the health care bill will probably be the death of my political career, ” Cao said, “but I have to live with myself, and I always reflect on the phrase of the New Testament, ‘How does it profit a man’s life to gain the world but to lose his soul.’ “

This is what a true Catholic Looks like.

Guilt Free

One of the things that can make humanity in general and Christianity in particular hard is guilt. We generally know when we haven’t done something we are supposed to do. It can be something simple, for example I forgot to call a fellow I was supposed to call last night. I’m slightly embarrassed about it but it’s not a life shaking thing. However sometimes it is more important. I remember 25 years ago I yelled at an elderly aunt of mine over something her sister did, My older sister ripped me a new one over it but I was too embarrassed to apologize. To this day I feel guilty when I see her children and grandchildren.

When we know we’ve done something wrong we hate to be reminded of it. One of the reason’s why the Church has always and will always be under attack is that part of it’s job is to remind us of our faults in the hope that we will repent of them or at least take confession to absolve ourselves.

This is true in culture too, I think people actually know right from wrong in their guts, they know when they are throwing B.S. and when they are being false so when things remind them of their faults or the truth it is disturbing, and must be stopped.

That’s why Hotair’s quote of the day concerning Trig Palin is so spot on:

Trig is a reminder of our fierce ambivalence over disability. Every mention of his name is a pinprick to our conscience. Every photo of mother and son is a reminder of concepts — vulnerability, dependency and suffering — our culture no longer tolerates, as well as virtues, such as humility, dignity and self-sacrifice, it no longer extols

This more than any other reason is why the left needs Sarah Palin destroyed.
