Afghanistan is not doing well, there are bombs in Iraq, Democrats are eating their own on health care, deficits are soaring, the white house is spamming Americans, and the Gay community is having enough of don’t ask don’t tell and even some reporters are wondering if president Obama has Floyd Patterson’s jaw. What is a democratic administration with filibuster proof majority in the Senate and a large majority in the house to do?

Why investigate the Bush Administration of course:

The Justice Department’s ethics office has recommended reversing the Bush administration and reopening nearly a dozen prisoner-abuse cases, potentially exposing Central Intelligence Agency employees and contractors to prosecution for brutal treatment of terrorism suspects, according to a person officially briefed on the matter.

This is the one thing that democrats can agree on. This has one purpose and one purpose only to distract their base from their failures. The question is will they fall for it?

Update: It made the hotair headlines.

Update 2: And gateway pundit

Update 3: Rush echos me today on the show today. Great minds think alike, I don’t know what my excuse is.

The reason why I don’t liveblog Morning Joe anymore is stuff like this.

Republican Joe Scarborough purported to have his finger on the pulse of Republicans across the country today when he declared that they were uniformly rejecting Sarah Palin and her “hard, hard, hard right” conservative views.

Conservatives for Palin elaborates:

The Democratic controlled Senate Finance Committee didn’t seem to think the “death panels” were so ridiculous when they removed the provision from the Senate version of the health care bill.

Is there an agenda here?

Joe Scarborough ignored Governor Palin’s meticulously cited statements and thoughtful arguments, and went directly to the same false stereotypes that are frequently repeated on liberal blogs…

Scarborough’s agenda became clear when he said, “She ain’t going to burn up Iowa anymore”. He would like to present himself and his political philosophy as the correct alternative to “extreme right wingers” like Sarah Palin.

Well lets see if his book is the alternate opinion based on his Amazon Sales rank today

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #28,738 in Books

That’s after two months, how about looking at that inciter of people Mark Levin he likes Palin?

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #31 in Books

That’s after 5 months, how about Dick Morris who I’m not a big fan of myself:

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #47 in Books

Dick’s book came out two weeks after Joe, How about Michelle?

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #14 in Books

Her book is a month old, and finally how about Glenn Beck, he must be tanking with all those boycotts right?

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #9 in Books

That one came out within 3 days of your book didn’t it Joe?

Well it’s not as if she can stay on offense against this administration since the people don’t support her, oh wait:

For years, states rich with an abundance of oil and natural gas have been begging Washington, DC politicians for the right to develop their own natural resources on federal lands and off shore. Such development would mean good paying jobs here in the United States (with health benefits) and the resulting royalties and taxes would provide money for federal coffers that would potentially off-set the need for higher income taxes, reduce the federal debt and deficits, or even help fund a trillion dollar health care plan if one were so inclined to support such a plan.

So why is it that during these tough times, when we have great needs at home, the Obama White House is prepared to send more than two billion of your hard-earned tax dollars to Brazil so that the nation’s state-owned oil company, Petrobras, can drill off shore and create jobs developing its own resources? That’s all Americans want; but such rational energy development has been continually thwarted by rabid environmentalists, faceless bureaucrats and a seemingly endless parade of lawsuits aimed at shutting down new energy projects.

I wonder if this is going to get coverage Joe? Likely a lot more than your book.

Update: Joe I hate to tell you this, you have the symptoms of Sullivan’s Syndrome. Seek help now

Update 2: I’ve added some links to coverage of Palin’s latest facebook and will continue to do so as the day goes on.

Update: 3 Marx doesn’t compete too well either

Byron York illustrates why he was such a loss to National Review and such a great pickup for the Washington Observer.

What’s truly striking in Greenberg’s poll is the degree to which the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have fallen off the progressive radar. I attended the first YearlyKos convention, in 2006, and have kept up with later ones, and it’s safe to say that while people who attended those gatherings couldn’t stand George W. Bush in general, their feelings were particularly intense when it came to opposing the war in Iraq. It animated their activism; they hated the war, and they hated Bush for starting it. They weren’t that fond of the fighting in Afghanistan, either.

Now, with Obama in the White House, all that has changed. Greenberg presented respondents with a list of policy priorities and asked, “Please indicate which two you think progressive activists should be focusing their attention and efforts on the most.” The winner was passing comprehensive health care reform, with 60 percent, and number two was passing “green energy policies that address environmental concerns,” with 22 percent. Tied for eighth place, named by just eight percent of respondents, was “working to end our military involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Remember when every pundit in the world said the war was what broke George W. Bush? Remember when the fact the Obama was going to stop it was the main reason for electing him?

Many observers have remarked that Obama’s decision to escalate the war in Afghanistan, and also to escalate the campaign of targeted assassinations using drone aircraft, both in Afghanistan and Pakistan, will cause him trouble on the political left. Indeed, some members of Congress have suggested that the president has just a year to show significant results in Afghanistan before lawmakers begin to pressure him to pull back. But if the Netroots Nation results are any indication, Obama may have more room than previously thought on the war. Not too long ago, with a different president in the White House, the left was obsessed with America’s wars. Now, they’re not even watching.

I think the left didn’t mind losing the war as long as it could be blamed on a Republican administration. Now suddenly as we are on the offensive in Afghanistan and casualties are up the left doesn’t notice or care.

I’m reminded of the old story during Clinton inauguration when someone on the left commented disapprovingly on the military display of Fighter Jets passing above. A person from the administration answered with a smile that they were “our jets now”.

I guess the military is the “netroots” military now.

Funny we on the right always thought it was our American military, and we still do.

Update: Powerline and Newsbusters notice.

After reading these two posts at Newsbusters and RedState concerning Sargento cheese’s decision to honor the left’s boycott demand of Glenn Beck I sent them this letter via their contact page:

Good afternoon.

As a person of Sicilian decent a good cheese is very important to me. Whether making homemade Chicken parm or a simple pizza the right cheese can make or break a good dish.

My local market carries your cheese, although times are tougher the quality of your product has justified the little bit extra I’ve had to pay to make sure the meals I cook are up to snuff.

Although your company has a fine eye for cheese your eye for politics doesn’t seem to be too keen.

Your decision to publicly pull advertising from the Glenn Beck show on behalf of an advocacy group supporting this white House is beneath you.

I’m not a big fan of Beck but I am a big fan of free speech and the right to disagree and critique with the government. I have taken the liberty of examining Mr. Beck and have decided that your determination that he is propagating “hate speech” is poppycock.

Since you have decided to publicly to take a side it behooves me to do the same. The quality of your product not withstanding I find myself compelled to find another cheese maker who can concentrate on producing their product rather than repressing speech.

When you decide to reconsider your decision as publicly as you made it, I will be happy to reconsider mine.

Thank you.

Redstate has contact info for them and others but I prefer the direct contact page, feel free to follow the link if you agree.

Update: The RedState story now contains this word from Sargento:

“I had never heard of the Color of Change organization until it was mentioned by a consumer who called us and claimed we were influenced by them, and I notice you have mentioned it as well. This group did not contact Sargento and did not influence our decision.”

That’s rather amazing when you consider the following:

“I can confirm that Sargento has instructed our media buyer to not buy advertising that would appear during the Glenn Beck Show,” Gannon said in an e-mail to the Business & Media Institute on Aug. 14. “We market our products to people regardless of their political affiliations. As a business, we sometimes disagree with the administration’s policies. Yet we do not want to be associated with hateful speech used by either liberal or conservative television hosts.”

I would like to know when and how he formed that opinion particularly when you consider this e-mail response they sent to a person advocating the boycott:

We deeply appreciate your reaching out to us and sharing your comments and concerns about Sargento ads appearing during “The Glenn Beck Show.” We sat down with the marketing department to talk about it and I learned that we buy time periods not specific programs. But in any event, they’ve made the decision to exclude that program from our future ad rotation. Simply stated, Sargento ads won’t be airing during that show. Again, thanks for contacting us.

I suspect it’s going to come down to whose business they would rather lose.

Update 2 RSMcCain puts it in perspective

The Left doesn’t have to add more targets to their boycott list in order to damage conservative media. Put the hit on Beck — impose what might be called a political discount on the value of his advertising — and the boycotters have thereby demonstrated their ability to do the same to anyone whom they should decide to target next.

To abandon Glenn Beck and throw him under the bus — to sacrifice him to the Left — would be an act of appeasement akin to Neville Chamberlain giving Hitler the Sudetenland.

He is exactly right, they can’t beat Fox in the ratings so they will use this plan. Sargento if they were smart could have dropped their ads without a comment when the cycle ended, after all Mr. Beck doesn’t have a divine right to their business, but once they made the announcement they took sides.

Update 3: Legal Insurrection looks at the bright side.
