…because on those days Morning Joe doesn’t even pretend to have balance. Sam Stein of the Huff-po, Andrea Mitchel, Norah O’Donnell, Willie & Savannah.

Now Joe & Mika deserve a night off, particularly when they are at a late night event. When Joe was tweeting about the party at 11 (presuming he does his own tweets) I was thinking “When does the man sleep?” So you’ve got to give them a day. I don’t have an issue with that but you can’t put at least one conservative on the panel?

A few points:

ITEM: Yesterday from the president’s speech the line that is going to resonate is the “at a certain point you’ve enough money” bit. MSNBC doesn’t think that line was worth a quote, nor was the sight of riot police called on elderly Tea Party people at the event. (The video is very funny). Not even worth a comment. Instead they play over and over again “I don’t want wall street writing the bill.” Nothing like hard reporting and that adversarial relationship between the press and those in power.

ITEM: Today they covered the Gordon Brown stuff and Andrea Mitchell give the old “some people would call that bigoted” line. If you have paid any attention to the media over they years you will not that when someone in the media says: “some people” they mean “I think but don’t want to say it”. The clip of her reaction at first not believing he would say it was priceless. Note that nobody objected to actually considering the woman a bigot, just that Mr. Brown has been caught saying it.

ITEM: It is usual when you can segue from one similar story to another to link them. Yesterday in NY you have an State Senator calling Republicans White Supremacists publicly. That might have been an interesting tie in. Nope nothing to see here.

Joe and Mika where are you?

They bring in Pat for the Israel segment and final hour will they redeem themselves? It will be fun to find out. I’ll live blog it.

8:15 a.m. Nothing much to see in the Greg interview, played fairly straight.

8:22 a.m. Kelly O’Donnell joins the table replacing Andrea, boy that is going to add balance.

8:39 a.m. Luke Russert is on the set, I wonder where that will send the scale.

Update: Shana says Joe does his own tweeting. That’s rather cool

On Monday Night the Twin City Tea Party had its latest meeting.

This month’s meeting was was shorter and more direct. Last month over 80 people showed forcing the use of the upstairs room. This month the topography was a bit different. There was a general seating area where people who just wanted to hear the speakers had chairs set up while the serving tables remains for those (like myself) who planned on eating and drinking. It increased the capacity of the lower room considerably, however with the enthusiasm of the big rallies of Tax day behind them and with some time the crowd was smaller (46 people) but quite attentive.

Last month there were a half dozen speakers some of them rather long winded. This month it seemed the theme was “less is more” and it worked out well. A single candidate Mary Connaughton a republican running for State Auditor attended making a very good case for her candidacy based on credentials and past actions. She was considerably more effective than the gentleman who spoke on her behalf last time. If nothing else it looks like for the auditor position there is a wealth of good candidates.

Justin Brooks who has organized the local group had made it a point to reach out to several different democratic candidates to invite them to the event but received either no response or regrets due to conflicts. This is a large mistake If the democrat party concedes the economic argument to the republicans they will lose it by default.

The next subject raised was the Cap and Trade bill. John Weston destroyed his qualifications for congress by actually reading the bill. He didn’t like what he saw and neither did the audience:

Mauricio Cardozo, A Local High School student spoke next asking advice on forming a Tea Party group/club in his school was next soliciting suggestions and the crowd responded with many ideas to advance and attract young people to the cause.

One common theme after the speakers was the idea of both educating people on both the tea parties and the positions they hold. A Summit May 7th & 8th in Danvers had some potential but from the reaction of both the crowd and both new and old attendees it was the meat of the Cap and Trade bill that really moved them. This seems like the field where the next battle will be fought.

Update: Error in the title on the date, corrected.

My latest column for the Examiner is now available here.

It’s on tea party reaction to the Boston Herald article concerning Wall Street Contributions. It looks like Josh’s reaction might have been an aberration.

Apparently not because he makes the following statement:

They weren’t around protesting during the Bush years BECAUSE THE TEA PARTY IS REPUBLICANS. They don’t care about the deficit. They care that a Democrat (and a black “Muslim,” to boot), is in the White House. They don’t care about fiscal restraint, they care that a Democrat is in the White House.

Now I’ve attended a few tea parties and talked to people there. The trust level for republicans is not very high. If you had interviewed these people you would know this. As for the suggestion that people who support the tea parties care only that a Democrat is in the White House well, let me make the introductions…

John Cole…meet Glenn Reynolds. You might have heard of the man, he was writing about something you might recalled known as porkbusters. The earliest entry in the 3 pages of archives when you search for “Porkbusters” is May 16 2006. There is actually a blog entry from Sept 18th of 2005 as well available.

John Cole…Michelle Malkin. You might know the lady. (I’ve met her very gracious and did a kind deed for my older brother) I took the liberty of searching her archive for “porkbusters” and lo and behold it goes back to Sept 19th 2005.

Now I don’t claim to have a photographic memory but I seem to recall that there was no democrat, black or otherwise in the White House at the time nor was there a republican majority in the house where spending originates.

If you want to pretend that it’s all about President Obama’s pigmentation you go on ahead. It will earn you hits from the left and love from the media. Just don’t expect people who know how to use a search engine to take you seriously.

Update: Bad link, Thanks to Patrick for spotting it.

Update 2: Patrick does more than correct my bad link:

The reason I raised a stink about this, is because John Cole is doing two things; first of all, he is doing something that I feel is just wrong — but is what the liberal left is known for and that is collectivism. Blaming an entire group for the actions of a few. Which, I feel, is wrong. Secondly, Cole is playing fast and loose with the facts and with pinning blame, which I think he knows; but because he hopped the fence, because Bush did not do things, like he thought they ought to be done, he bailed on the right — he feels that he has to recite the talking points of the left, in order to remain in their good graces. Although, I could be wrong on that one.
