The Fear of the Deep State of Dealing with Reality can be illustrated in two tweets. This one from England where a parody song that has hit #1 is being censored because it hits the PM.
The Text of the tweet:
BBC refuses to play anti-Starmer Christmas song as it hits No 1 in downloads chart Freezing This Christmas, by Sir Starmer and the Granny Harmers, lampoons cutting of winter fuel payments for pensioners An anti-Sir Keir Starmer song has reached No 1 in the official singles downloads chart – but the BBC has so far refused to play it. Freezing This Christmas – which uses the melody of Mud’s 1974 hit Lonely This Christmas – lampoons the Government’s cutting of winter fuel payments for pensioners. Despite its surge to the top of the downloads chart, it has not had airtime on BBC radio stations. It was written by Chris Middleton, a freelance marketer and writer, under the mock band name Sir Starmer and the Granny Harmers, and all proceeds from sales will go toward charities supporting the elderly. The amateur songwriter said: “I would like them to play it – it’s in the downloads chart, so people obviously want to hear it.” Dean Ager, the singer on the track, has claimed the BBC’s refusal to play the song is “giving them bad publicity for being so biased”, urging the corporation to give it “proper airplay and stop denying the chance to raise money for charity and raise awareness”. https://telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/12/19/bbc-refuses-to-play-anti-starmer-christmas-song/
It had been pulled from a Youtube site as well.
It speaks volumes that the BBC is afraid to allow an unpopular PM to be the subject of critique.
As for the US. As you’ve heard the 2nd CR only 115 pages this time vs 1500 was voted down with every single Democrat and thirty something republicans voting against.
The Dems are having a fit and I suspect this is why:
That statement of fact is a cause of real fear for the left. If people figure out that they don’t need the government for every little thing the entire Dem machine implodes.
I’ll give Glenn Reynolds the final word:
I say shut it down. Then on January 21, lay off all the “non-essential” employees because, hey, they’re not essential.
And note by the way, that nobody has asked still-sort-of-President Biden and oh-yeah-she’s-still-the-VP Kamala Harris about this.
#UnexpectedlyTM of course
