In Minnesota a city council decided to aid “diversity” to those who came to America (but still apparently hate it) by removing the pledge of allegiance from their meetings.

The backlash produced another meeting to reconsider it and a lot of folks turned out but no final decision has been made.

This is why paying attention to local government matters.

In Fitchburg fresh off finally defeating Planned Parenthood the public library is getting ready to bring in Drag Queen Story Time.

My church will hold a special mass that day and people are calling the Mayor and I have a few ideas in mind myself, but it’s an important reminder that beating the devil for a day doesn’t mean you do so forever.

It’s not been a grand time in Seattle. Naked men stabbing people, restaurant chains going bankrupt, hate crimes hoaxes, Amazon building elsewhere, but there is a sign that things finally might be changing.

Seattle City Council elections are coming up in a few months and the Seattle Times reports that Mayor Jenny Durkan has been quietly cleaning up homeless camps at an increased rate compared to last year. Durkan may be hoping that by reducing some of the visible signs of the problem she can mollify voters who are tired of seeing tent camps on sidewalks and in parks throughout the city.

Eventually things reach a point where the voters rebel and with elections coming the the authorities want to give those angry over what the city has become a reason to direct that anger elsewhere.

In Kentucky the left has decided that the best move they can do is to nominate a far left candidate who already lost for congress to take on Mitch McConnell.

How much of a longshot is the progressive Democrat in Deep Red Kentucky? Even left-leaning (if it leans any further it will fall over) Vox.com summed up her announcement like so: “McGrath’s viral candidacy for Congress fell short in 2018. Now she’s running against the most powerful senator in Washington.” That’s the kind of encouragement most longshot candidates could do without.

And it isn’t like Kentucky’s sixth district, where McGrath (a Kentucky native) ran for Congress in 2018, is completely hostile to Democrats. Democrat Ben Chandler represented the people there from 2004-2013, surviving even the yuge GOP surge of 2010. Despite a very well-funded campaign, lots of favorable media attention, and a genuine war hero record including 89 combat missions bombing al Qaeda and Taliban targets, McGrath still lost to incumbent Republican Andy Barr by more than four points.

I am delighted that it’s likely Kentucky will still get the government they deserve and even more delighted that very dollar the far left spends on McGrath will be a dollar that won’t be used in other races.

Finally it’s simply Amazes me that the people of LA put up with this:

“I can’t walk down the street without thinking that a flea could jump on me,” said Estela Lopez, who represents business owners in the area.
After reporting the pile of waste to the city’s 311 services hotline, the I-Team was told it could take up to 90 days before it’s cleaned.
Infectious disease specialist Dr. Jeffrey Klausner, of UCLA, said there’s no time to waste. “Trash and food waste attracts rats,” said Klausner. “It does pose a public health risk.” An out-of-control rat population can even lead to the spread of dangerous strains of salmonella and bubonic plague, he noted.

How bad it is? This bad:

When state officials inspected the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Division station last November, they uncovered rodent infestations and other unsanitary conditions at the facilities responsible for protecting skid row and other parts of downtown.
The conditions have now become the source of growing anger inside the station, with some officers threatening to seek transfers and city leaders scrambling to address the problems.
The issues at the Central Division come amid larger concerns about disease and filth across downtown, notably a vermin infestation at City Hall last year. One city employee was diagnosed with typhus, a disease that can be spread by rodents. City Hall workers said they saw fleas, rodent droppings and plants eaten by vermin in the building.

It would have been unthinkable for such a thing to be tolerated in an American city in the culture of my youth, but that was a time where American culture was untainted by today’s liberalism. But now California in general and LA in particular are both one party leftist states and the people including the folks at City Hall and at the LAPD are getting the government they deserve.

I’m sure they hoped they deserved better.

During my visit to Syracuse (The post of which I still haven’t gotten up yet at my regular blog) I stopped by to see Karen the Lonely Conservative and introduce her to my wife and sons.  it was a fine visit as it’s a great pleasure to let the people I met through writing meet my family.

Karen doesn’t blog anymore as life is too busy and I really understand that.  Many of the “old” bloggers have moved on as trying to keep a readership and have something to say every day isn’t easy.  That got me thinking.

There are I suspect a lot of such people I know who might have something to say once in a while, don’t want to go on twitter for it, but don’t want to maintain a blog anymore.

That’s where DaTechGuy’s home for retired bloggers comes in.

I propose to make this backup site a site for bloggers who wish to occasionally vent without the pressure of doing it full time anymore.  The membership will be limited to bloggers I know or folks recommended by such bloggers, the posts will be their own and there will no schedule or times to post.  If you feel like posting, post, and if your posts are a day a month or a year apart that’s fine too.

I only ask that you follow these rules in terms of posting.

No support of abortion, transgendersim, gay marriage or jihad.  My name is still on the site.

Don’t post porn, don’t be overly vulgar and while critique of the Catholic Church is acceptable (and with our current Pope more justified that usual) I won’t have any “The Catholic Church is the antichrist” bs here.  I’m a believing Catholic and any blog with my name on it won’t be carrying stuff like that.

If you have an interest in being invited contact me in comments or via email and subject to the restrictions above I’ll be happy to give you a space for the occasional post.

Blame the Silly Seattle Voters for their Snakes

King Richard (in disguise): Oh, now I remember. How does your loyalty to Richard set on a killer of knights, a poacher of the king’s deer and an outlaw?
Robin Hood: Those I’ve killed died from misusing the trust that Richard left them. And the worst rogue of these is the king’s own brother.
King Richard: Oh, then you blame Prince John.
Robin Hood: No, I blame Richard. His task was defending his people instead of deserting them to fight in foreign lands.

The Adventures of Robin Hood 1938

One of the favorite quotes of President is from Al Wilson’s song the Snake whose climax comes when the woman laments the deadly snake biting her after she had nursed it back to health and the snake replies:

Oh shut up, silly woman,” said the reptile with a grin
“You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in

Al Wilson the Snake

This instantly came to mind when I read this story about the oh so woke City Attorney of Seattle and the director of public defense absolutely OUTRAGED over the idea that a plea deal which gave no jail time after a violent assault by a 72 time offender was rejected by a judge who instead gave him the maximum of 364 days in jail saying:

“As a judge, I have a duty and responsibility to protect the citizens of Seattle and impose a sentence that I think is going to provide protection,” McKenna said in court. “I don’t think this court is willing to risk having someone else assaulted.”

The two leveled several accusations against the judge which he categorically denied and were so outrageous that even the Seattle times called them out as BS.

I was mentioning this to a Haitian fellow at work who couldn’t get over the idea of a 72 time offender (14 being felonies) being loose and wondered about what is going on with the government in Seattle my answer was pretty direct. The people of the city were getting the government they deserve.

Seattle isn’t Venezuela, it isn’t China, it isn’t Somalia it isn’t even England at the time of Richard the Lionheart. The voters of Seattle holding free election have put into place the government that has let such things slide for years and have encouraged and enabled this situation. Those same people are regularly given the chance to change this government and have chosen not to even when the situation in the city has become intolerable. How intolerable, as one police officer said:

“People come here because it’s called Free-attle and they believe if they come here they will get free food, free medical treatment, free mental health treatment, a free tent, free clothes and will be free of prosecution for just about everything; and they’re right.”

emphasis mine

When you elect people whose primary purpose is to protect those who prey on you and your city and who publicly state positions along those lines you have no business being angry when they act accordingly.

The people of Seattle has the government and the city they deserve and it will not change until they decide they deserve something different.

It’s on them.

Embrace the Power of NO!

Posted: April 26, 2019 by datechguy in culture

There is actually a very easy way to deal with the insanity of the world today. A way that my parents and their parents understood. A way that leaders like Churchill and Washington and Lincoln understood, a way that is so simple that people once they discover it are amazed at the power it holds.

It is the magic word

NO!

When people insist you cancel a speaker at a college, simply say NO! When people insist that you pretend people with penis’ are women say NO! When your child insists that they are a different sex or a superhero or must have the latest toy or else: Say NO!

For two generation this magic word has been shelved by so called adults that didn’t want to admit that they had grown older. They wanted to be not the parents to their children or the teacher to their students, they wanted to be their FRIENDS. And because their goal was the approval of their charges rather than their protection or education they granted every wish, gave a trophy to every performance and eliminated any objective standard by which their charges might challenge themselves, to the point where now THEIR charges don’t know how to deal with their own children or charges that make demands on them.

NO can save your budget, NO can protect your kids and charges from danger and when backed up by security and law, for example arresting prosecuting and expelling students that commit violent acts or disrupt speeches NO can instantly bring perspective to someone who has never had to deal with rejection.

It works on a national scale as well. Look at the Democrats in the senate who were desperate to stop Kavanaugh, desperate to remove Trump and desperate to stop the president from filling positions in the judiciary. Each time they screamed and shouted and the media amplified their voice, yet each time, instead of caving Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell said NO!.

Look at Iran, Look at Syria, Look at North Korea, look at the Palestinians, how the willingness to say NO has allowed us to get places that people said were too dangers, were impossible.

And most importantly look at the cities that have been unable to say NO! to activists, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco and ask yourself if you can’t afford a wall and/or gate around your house and a bodyguard if that is where you would want to live.

To be sure there might be some short terms costs to saying NO! Those who have never been refused before will be shocked, may throw tantrums, may at times react completely unhinged.

But remember the choice is stark, You can either be a subject to others whims or be free. It is no coincidence that those who have been able to secure freedom for the most people, Washington , Lincoln and Churchill were all willing to say NO! to great tyranny

So learn to say no to these petty tyrants, and free yourself and them.
