Q: Why for my money is the Rosary the best prayer out there bar none?

If you are a New Englander you might remember that old beer commercial jingle: “Schaefer is the one beer to have when you’re having more than one” In much the same way the Holy Rosary is an Excellent Prayer when you have multiple prayer intentions of varying importance that you want to pray for.

You can Offer the full rosary for an intention, you can offer an individual set of mysteries for a different intention and you can offer a single decade for an intention. You can offer the “Hail Holy Queen” at the end of a set of mysteries for yet another intention and if you pray it they way I do, you can even offer closing prayers (I go backwards back to the cross) for a particular intention. (I always offer the closing prayers for the Holy Father and his prayer intentions).

Even if you are offering just a single set of Mysteries that still allows for 9 different intentions (10 if you offer one for the opening prayers, I never do, I keep them as simple prayers of praise). That’s a lot of people you can handle on a single type of prayer.

Just to diagram it out Here is an Example of a Full rosary with prayer intentions (more…)

Anti-theist or not, if there is a person on the net who needs prayers more, I can’t think of them.

Note the repetitive use of the phrase “I don’t want” in her post.

There are a lot of really nasty snarky things running through my head right now, but leaving that all aside for a sec consider:

Angie’s soul is just as valuable in the eyes of God as the soul of the child she decided she “didn’t want”. It is too late to save the life of her child but Angie is still precious in the sight of God. She says she doesn’t want to die, but death is inevitable for all who live, I’m going to die, she’s going to die, if you are reading this I guarantee you are going to die too.

Life is full of choices. I maintain that her choice in this matter was as horrible as any slave-owners but it is now a choice in her past that she will live with and deal with forever.

I think it would be a fine thing instead of condemning her that we choose to pray for her. Lets get together and do so. If you are a Catholic like myself I would suggest dedicating the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary to her for a week or more. If you follow another denomination than use any prayer you find appropriate.

Anger and hatred however righteous in this case will achieve very little, but prayer and compassion might. Let’s try it. If God thinks that Angie’s soul is worth the effort, who are we to say otherwise?

Via Glenn.

Oddly enough I usually start my prayers way before this time of day. I haven’t done them yet. I guess I know why now, so I could offer them for her.

update: Adrienne (who I have not given nearly enough attention to lately) links and agrees, thanks muchly.

Let’s talk indirect proofs…

I’m often told by people who don’t believe that we religious types take things that are coincidences and turn them into something more. In my opinion they are actually missing the little miracles that happen every day.

I had several of them at CPAC and in it’s preparation.

ITEM: Day I left for CPAC was Ash Wednesday, I accidentally missed mass near my house (got the time wrong) and had to drive across town. Managed to show up just in time to get Mass and ashes, since I was shy confession I didn’t receive but the priest was kind enough after mass to hear confession and then allow me to receive communion. Being armed with that much grace turned out to be very important when I needed some oomph to get through a long 42 hour stretch of sleeplessness and the dangers therein.

ITEM: Couldn’t find my Knights of Columbus Rosary looked everywhere for it and was very annoyed, The wife found a beautiful spare Rosary but I was still annoyed as I took it. Pam Geller noted (and I came off snarky since I was still annoyed that it wasn’t what I was looking for) yet after I ran into Simon Deng and got a personal interview I discovered to my delight that he was Catholic. Since the Rosary was not my official one I could give it to him. Less than one hour after I got home, the missing beads turned up in my coat pocket that I’m sure I checked over and over again.

ITEM: You might not know it but I have had a very hard time with Brown Scapulars. Mine keep breaking and wearing and have been a real pain. I haven’t been able to find them locally until last week where I found a little shop that carries them. Seeing how I burn through them I bought 4. Managed to get the one I was wearing blessed and wore it to CPAC and lo and behold discovered a Catholic there who had a great need for it.

ITEM:
One of the weakest parts of my faith has been my prayer life, this has been a constant problem for me, however through a chance meeting re-kindled said prayer life and It’s been roaring forward ever since.

ITEM: As you might know I’ve been involved in the fight against Planned Parenthood in Fitchburg. As you might also be aware I only managed to get the funds I needed to attend just in time to book my travel On my trip I encountered people from the American Life League Americans united for life who might be able to help.

ITEM: On Friday a blogger friend was in a panic as a vital computer component seemed to have vanished. I took the moment to pray to St. Anthony who is the patron of lost items. Within a few minutes the item was found and the panic ended.

Item: I don’t even remember how it came up but a particular blogger managed to confirm something my wife has been telling me, (and I’ve been ignoring) that has serious potential danger that I’ve pooh poohed. Because of this confirmation I am on my way to take action that I had not bothered with as before.

And all this happens while still enjoying CPAC and managing to do some decent blogging.

Now many might see these as tiny blessings, but life is full of tiny things that turn into great things. All of these blessings will be passed on with interest.

Update: Yes I mixed up my pro life organizations what an idiot I am, but as I correct it I want to give a HUGE shout out to Jeff Quinton who treated our situation in Fitchburg like the crisis it is. I am in his debt and it will not be forgotten!

…about this post concerning Pat Kennedy’s retirement?

You guessed it, he declares his and Kennedy’s Catholicism as a reason to support him, when Kennedy has publicly gone after the church and has publicly supported an intrinsic evil (abortion).

My question to the author is this: Do you support Kennedy despite his position/conflict with the church or because of it? If Kennedy was in communion with the church would you still support him or does that matter at all?

What I think people forget is the Democrats were already in trouble when this stuff came out. Kennedy’s revelation of the private correspondence between the Bishop and himself was, in my opinion, an attempt to boost his numbers and or his fund raising.
