If you look at any list of world series winners you will note that the listed winner of the World Series in 1919 is always the same.

It is the Cincinnati Reds managed by Pat “Pop” Moran (from my city of Fitchburg Massachusetts after whom Moran square in the city is named and to whom a nice monument exists in west Fitchburg).

The 1919 Reds are a team that doesn’t get enough credit but let’s take a look at the actual real numbers involved via that invaluable site Baseball-Reference. com :

The 1919 Reds were a good team, they went 96-44 finishing 9 games ahead of John McGraw’s giants. By comparison their World Series Rivals finished 88- 52 3 1/2 games ahead of the Cleveland Indians.

They had a first rate pitching staff with a team ERA of 2.23 (almost a full run better than their world series opponents at 3.04) this is why they gave up a mere 2.9 runs per game nearly a full run less than their World Series Rivals

At the plate they were 2nd in the National league in batting, slugging and OPS and led the national league in OBP, although all of those numbers were below their AL rivals.

With the Glove the Reds had a fielding percentage of .974 to their AL rivals .969 a slight edge but combined with their pitching lead to their run differential of 1.3 not only led the majors but was a full 30% higher than their vaunted AL rivals.

Put simply the Reds were a team with strong pitching and defense and solid up and down the lineup facing a team in the world series with a solid ace and a stronger batting lineup if you look at the team stats for the season one could easily pick the Reds as the favorite to win. (One might point to their White Sox ace with a 29-7 with an 1.82 record in 35 starts as the deciding advantage, that is if you ignored the fact that Reds Starter Dutch Ruether went 19-6 with an identical 1.82 ERA in 29 starts).

It was to be the classic matchup of a team with an overwhelming offense vs a team with solid pitching up and down the rotation and better defense…

…or rather it would have been if a group of White Sox players had not decided to throw the series. This led to all kinds of scandal, trials, losing of evidence and the appointment of a tough baseball commissioner who ruled the game with an iron fist for the next 20 years.

However it didn’t change the result. In the record books the Cincinnati Reds were the winners of the 1919 world series.

Today everyone remembers the 1919 White Sox but few talk about the excellent Reds team that won the series and everyone assumes that the White Sox would have won if they didn’t throw the series because nobody has bothered to remember how good the Reds actually were but even though the 1919 Reds are only remembered these days as the team that the Black Sox threw the world series to, in 1919, 1924, 1950, 1972, 1999 and even today 104 years later if you look up the question: “Who won the 1919 Major League World Series” the correct answer remains: “The 1919 Cincinnati Reds 5 games to 3.”

And that brings us to the favorite question that the media likes to ask the GOP during the 2024 cycle.

Right now the country is in the worst shape than I have ever seen in my 60 years on this planet. The economy is in a shambles, our position in the world is a joke, our military is in a self destructive cycle, our social fabric is tearing apart our borders don’t exist, laws are not enforced, basic human rights that we had acknowledged as sacred for centuries are cast aside and we have a president who on a good day has the intellectual and physical prowess of John Gill.

The media/academic left is doing all it can to protect the banana republic that this administration has become and as part of this attempt keeps circling back to the 2020 election asking every GOP candidate running for any office from President to dog catcher: “Who won the 2020 presidential election?” figuring that an answer of “Trump” can be used to discredit the candidate with the general public while an answer of “Biden” will discredit them from the base.

There is no question in my mind that election 2020 was stolen and that inaction by the people charged with enforcing the norms to make sure the result is honest led to the final result but the bottom line is as simple as the answer to who won the 1919 world series.

So I suggest that if you are a GOP Candidate for President, or Senator or Congress, or Governor or Dog Catch and the question is asked:

“Who won the 2020 election?”

or

“Did Joe Biden win the 2020 election?”

the proper answer by any GOP candidate who thinks the election was stolen or might have been stolen is: “Joe Biden won the presidential election of 2020 election as sure as the Cincinnati Reds won the world Series in 1919.”

They won’t like the answer and if they challenge it the best response is: “Are you saying the Cincinnati Reds didn’t win the 1919 world series?” and press them on this.

Now I realize that this is to some degree an insult to the 1919 Reds who as I’ve noted above were a great team and were certainly capable of winning the 1919 World Series but as they are all long dead I think they will forgive us in this case.

At NY Mag Ed Kilgore asks: What Would a ‘Legitimate’ Biden Victory Look Like to Republicans? and attacks the very notion that an election might be questioned as bigotry:

There’s a sort of ancestral white Anglo-Saxon Protestant belief that “big-city machines” controlled by Democrats use chicanery to get their voters to the polls and then to put heavy thumbs on the scales to change the results. This mythology — which goes back to lurid tales of “bosses” buying votes from Irish immigrants in the nineteenth century — is hard to shake, closely connected as it is to racial and ethnic prejudices. And speaking of prejudices, today’s conservatives continue to embrace the idea that minority voters — including immigrants — “vote themselves government benefits” in a way that creates a corrupt bargain between liberal elites and their inner-city clientele. It was exactly what Mitt Romney was talking about when he was caught on tape in 2012 warning Republicans that “47 percent” of voters are non-taxpaying parasites in the bag for the opposition. If you feel that way, then you don’t need evidence of specific irregularities to feel that any Democratic presidency is in some respects “illegitimate.”

For all his bluster the answer is quite simple:

  1. A Clear chain of custody for the ballots to ensure they are actually being cast by the voters in question.
  2. An open, transparent and verifiable count of the ballots accepted, preferably streamed so there can be no question that it is honest.

An election under those condition would be no more questionable than the score of yesterday’s Jets Vs Browns game. Everyone who watched saw the players play, everyone who watched saw the calls made and the points being scored and everyone who didn’t watch can access both the video and the audio calls of the game that were made at the time.

Why we would insist on such openness in determining the results of sporting contests and not do so for the election of our leaders is odd.

So Ed if you want me to trust the count on election night, that’s all I need.

Closing thought: Glenn Reynolds posted this at 7:42 PM tonight:

IT CAN’T BE A FRINGE BELIEF IT THAT MANY PEOPLE BELIEVE IT: 69% of Republicans now believe Biden’s 2020 win was illegitimate: New poll released before Trump’s January 6 arraignment shows GOP supporters believe there WAS widespread fraud.

And, regardless of actual fraud, if your electoral system is that untrusted, it’s time to make it more clearly trustworthy. The failure — more like refusal — to do that is producing a constitutional crisis in this country.

emphasis mine

I left the following comment:

If the charges of fraud were specious the media and government agencies in charges of the specific counts would have happily and enthusiastically demonstrated the fact with the evidence of same.

That they never did speaks volumes

When people aren’t transparent it’s for a reason.

Kelly Ayotte is running for Governor in NH. It’s my opinion that she was one of the few victims on 2016 because the left knew they needed the same kind of “help” in NH that they later arranged in 2020 in counties from Arizona to PA.

My friends at the Grok are underwhelmed but my thought is she was an OK Senator and would certainly be a better governor than any Democrat out there, neverayotte folks not withstanding.

On a personal note Ayotte always gave me time and never ducked a question I asked, again the Grok guys know NH better than me but I’d take her for Governor like a shot over who we have in MA.

There are four days left if you want a sub from mighty subs in Needham MA as they prepare to close their door after 33 years.

My advice if you want to avoid lines and the risk of them running out of bread which happened every day this week. Get their by 7 AM or 8 at the latest. Believe me they’re worth it and you only have four more days.

Here is my video from 11 years ago

Mighty subs in year 22 of 33

Saw a tweet at instapundit that I had to answer, that tweet and my answer explains a lot.

People with power do what they do for a reason.

Speaking of explanations:

I always thought that it was interesting that the same folks who were attacking and censoring people like me who say election 2020 was rigged and stolen never had the thought of demonstrating that the counts and the ballots were on the up and up, which is what you do if you have run a clean election that someone questions.

I submit and suggest there is a reason for this.

Finally I’m really getting sick of the “Replace Bill Belichick” chorus on talk radio lately.

Now I confess I don’t know if Bill has a plan to get back to the playoffs or the superbowl or just to last long enough to get the all time wins record but I do know two things.

  1. Barring a lot of luck and major injuries all over the league nothing he could do in the next three years will get this team back to the Superbowl
  2. There is not a better coach available that has even an outside chance of achieving that goal in the time frame I just mentioned.

I’m reminded of when a newspaper editor came to Lincoln demanding the removal of General George McClellan Lincoln asked him who he thought should replace him, he received the answer “Anybody” and Lincoln replied that anybody might be OK for him but he needed SOMEBODY.

Until I get a name who can do better I think I’ll stick with Bill.

Vinny Forlano: He won’t talk. Stone is a good kid. Stand-up guy, just like his old man. That’s the way I see it.

Vincent Borelli: I agree. He’s solid. A fuckin’ Marine.

Americo Capelli: He’s okay. He always was. Remo, what do you think?

Remo Gaggi: Look… why take a chance? At least, that’s the way I feel about it

Back in 2020 I asked this question concerning stealing the election rather than letting the election cycle (which would mean they would be free of Trump in just a year) take its course:

Why would the political bosses take the rather loud risk to steal this election and expose their operations to national scrutiny when history shows that by 2024 or 2028 they would have power back by without having to show their hand and risk the entire operation that has kept them in clover for decades?

I followed up with ten reasons why they might have decided to go all in. Of those ten reasons reasons 2 & 3 were the big ones.

  1. Investigations A 2nd Trump term meant that actual investigations of the tactics used against him would take place and moreover take place in an environment where rulings on these things are likely to be made by judges appointed by President Trump. Many of these are a direct threat to very comfortable and connected people
  2. The Potential Costs of Their Failed Attempt to Steal It Unlike election 2016 where Donald Trump came out of nowhere and a lot of the standard vote fraud machinery was not put in place (why risk federal crimes on what they thought would be a blowout election?) The machines in Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Detroit and Nevada where already in place and operating. They thought they had it in the bag when the turnout & vote totals for President Trump proved to be so high as to overcome the fraud they had already committed in the race. At best that meant that their efforts would be in vain and at worst it could mean actual investigation and legislation with teeth to break them.

This came to mind when I saw the following at Instapundit linking to Ed Morrissey at Hotair:

It’s going to get tougher to keep up this offense while Weiss is stipulating to the facts in Shapley’s testimony. The next step is to get Merrick Garland under oath in a House hearing and force him to testify as to what authority Weiss actually had, when Weiss applied for §515 status (if he ever did), and why Garland has lied about Weiss’ status to the public and to Congress for the last two years. It might take a grant of immunity to Garland aides to force the truth out of the Department of Justice for their attempt to bury the Biden influence-peddling scandal — and to see just how high up the deceit and corruption actually go.

Note: Readers might recall Garland’s response last week came in the same press conference in which he claimed that questioning an AG or the DoJ is the same thing as undermining democracy. Now we can glimpse a reason for Garland’s panicked hyperbole; the whistleblowers are exposing the truth about Garland’s corrupt administration of the DoJ.

And this is why, as I noted in yesterday’s post that I believe the odds of the left attempting to steal the election for POTUS this time around are much higher.

For the purposes of this argument let’s pretend for the next three paragraphs that Donald Trump is not a candidate for the GOP nomination, if that was so you could easily make the case that a potential President Scott, a President Haley, a President Pence or even a President DeSantis is unlikely to bother to litigate or even investigate election 2020.

But given these whistleblower revelations and the treatment parents at school board meetings or pro-life advocates by the FBI there is very little chance that a President Scott or a President Haley or a President Pence will ignore this Hunter Biden ignore this whistle blower stuff and in my opinion NO chance that a President DeSantis would do so.

And while Joe Biden is frankly of little threat to the Obama/China clique who actually runs this administration because of the simple fact that given his age and physical state his sudden physical decline and death would be plausible at any time when it might be considered by those who might be worried about him talking, this does not apply to Hunter Biden.

Now let’s remind ourselves that Donald Trump IS in the presidential race and leading in the polls for the nomination and continue this train of thought.

Any sane person knows you can’t count on a crackhead to avoid selling you out. If Hunter finds his head on the block thanks to the pursuit by an energetic special council appointed by a President DeSantis or a President Trump deciding to play hardball the whole Obama crew along with the folks who fixed the last election.

Yeah Hunter may understand that he’s likely to be “Epsteined” if he opened his, mouth but would any of that Obama crew or those feds who have been playing fast and loose with the law really take the chance that a pampered crackhead won’t sell them all to to save his own skin?

And even if they could slow the litigation to the point where they could if necessary arrange an “accident” or “suicide” do you really see a Trump or DeSantis AG in office sweeping it under the rug?

This stuff could bring the whole dirty lot down, it doesn’t matter how unlikely it might seem, the Obama/China team is going to look at this and say: “Why take a chance?”

And that more than anything else if their motive for a repeat of the 2020 steal and why any GOP candidate who isn’t taking steps to anticipate and counter it now should not be considered a viable candidate for the 2024 GOP nomination.
