The final litmus test for the media

One of the signs of an abusive relationship is the willingness of the person on the recipient end to take it until they reach a breaking point.

For the media and the Obama administration this should be it.

Reporter Scott Powers was the designated “pool reporter” for the vice president’s Wednesday visit to the massive Winter Park, Fla., home of developer and philanthropist Alan Ginsburg. The veep hadn’t arrived yet but most of the 150 guests (minimum $500 donation) had. They were busy noshing on caprese crostini with oven-dried mozzarella and basil, rosemary flatbread with grapes honey and gorgonzola cheese and bacon deviled eggs, before a lunch of grilled chicken Caesar and garden vegetable wraps.

Not so for Powers. A “low-level staffer” put Powers in a storage closet and then stood guard outside the door, Powers told the DRUDGE REPORT. “When I’d stick my head out, they’d say, ‘Not yet. We’ll let you know when you can come out.'”

It was first reported by PJ Tattler (at least that’s where I first saw it) but they had not confirmed it at the time and put it up with a caveat. Drudge confirmed and the London Daily Mail is on it:

The White House website proudly says ‘President Obama is committed to creating the most open and accessible administration in American history.’

But try telling Vice President Joe Biden’s staff that, after they held a local reporter in a closet for hours after he was invited to cover a Florida political fundraiser because they did not want him talking with the guests.

During the last election the press pool was so fawning of candidate Obama as to defy belief. Their promises of open access during this administration has proven empty. If the mainstream media doesn’t treat the locking up of one of their own as it is, an affront to the first amendment and freedom of the press and act accordingly then they are simply abused spouses whose obsessive hatred of all things conservative (particularly all things Palin and Bachmann) is so great that they will pay any price to keep them down.

I predict that they will use the e-mailed apology from Biden’s office to ignore or dismiss it as a “news you can’t use” segment making themselves just an unsponsored version of media matters. It would be really good for the country and the constitution if they prove me wrong.

Tricking NOW into defending Sarah Palin from Misogynistic remarks. After all as NOW’s rep pointed out:

The National Organization for Women (NOW) refused to comment on Maher’s use of the derogatory term. A rep told FOXNews.com it is a “known fact” that NOW does not correspond with FOX News.

Yeah what a dirty trick of Fox to ask NOW to comment on a story, the next thing you know they might want an actual interview!

How horrible that they were compelled to say this:

“You’re trying to take up our time getting us to defend your friend Sarah Palin. If you keep us busy defending her, we have less time to defend women’s bodies from the onslaught of reproductive rights attacks and other threats to our freedom, safety, livelihood, etc,” wrote Bennett. “Sorry, but we can’t defend Palin or even Hillary Clinton from every sexist insult hurled at them in the media. That task would be impossible, and it would consume us. You know this would not be a productive way to fight for women’s equal rights, which is why you want us stuck in this morass.” …

Yes because we all know a public statement will so disrupt their schedule that they won’t be able to do anything else. Sister ToldJa gives the lie to this nonsense:

Personally, I couldn’t care less about any statement – or lack thereof – coming from so-called “women’s groups” denouncing the sexist treatment of female public figures, no matter their respective party affiliations. In fact, conservative women don’t need any defending by any duplicitous “progressive feminist groups.” But all the same it’s worth pointing out when they don’t. More importantly, it’s imperative to know why they don’t, which I explained above. Simply put: You’re not 100% woman unless you buy 100% into the radical liberal feminist dogma about “reproductive rights.”

Yeah NOW has been busy helping advance women unlike Sarah Palin:

When it comes to politics, who was the one who helped provide a boost to the election of the first female Governor of New Mexico, Susana Martinez, first female Governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley, or first female governor of Oklahoma, Mary Fallin? It certainly wasn’t NOW. NOW has asserted that they won’t waste their time defending Secretary Clinton or Governor Palin, both of whom stated just last week that it’s time for a female president. Female candidates and women in general can officially say, “women need NOW like a fish needs a bicycle”.

In my opinion the real reason why NOW is so angry about defending Palin from Maher’s remarks is that they agree with Mahar and would love to be able to say it aloud, but that would give away the game.

Molatov cocktail thrown at anti-abortion protester, police: You’ve got to expect that sort of thing

At a pro-life prayer vigil an improvised Molotov cocktail was thrown at an elderly lady Thursday. Luckily the device missed her.

Considering what’s been going on in Madison I’m not surprised at this event in Montana, what I AM surprised is the reaction of police:

… instead of inspecting the bomb debris or calling evidence technicians to the scene, the officer remarked that police could never get prints or other evidence from the bomb’s remains and said he would call the city’s garbage service to dispose of all the debris.

The officer then said that the 40 Days prayer vigil participants should expect this kind of reaction if they’re protesting at the abortion business.

What is going on with the police in Montana? Cripes, what is this the 50’s in the Jim Crow South? “Well you’ve gotta expect this kind of reaction if you black folk insist on voting an all.” Stacy McCain explains the parallel in a post on a different subject:

Hmmm. Another parallel to Neshoba County, you see: Because the sheriff’s department there in 1964 included Klan members, the law protected the lawless and no one would protect the innocent. Maybe someone should bring in the U.S. Department of Justice

The Thomas Moore Society is not amused:

Tom Brejcha, president and chief counsel of the Thomas More Society says his group has filed a formal complaint with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Field Office in Helena, Montana. The organization is for an immediate, intensive investigation of what it calls a “vicious” attack.

“We are appalled by this terrible act of violence, while we’re immensely grateful that God’s grace spared this valiant pro-lifer any serious injury,” he told LifeNews.com this afternoon. “But the reaction of Kalispell police officers after Ms. Trierweiler called them to the scene was equally appalling, indeed outrageous.”

“We intend to file disciplinary complaints against both the officer who came to the crime scene and the desk sergeant whose tepid, indifferent, and grossly unprofessional response to this blatant act of domestic terrorism shows them both unfit to wear a police uniform and at best deserving of severe disciplinary action.

The unwillingness of the police to pursue this, along with inaction in Wisconsin is a trend that if continued will do more to undermine civil society in the US than anything else.

Oh and expect the MSM to cover this something after they do a 1 hour special on terror attack on the Fogel family and the murder of their children. Molotov cocktails are on news if thrown AT abortion clinics.

…when you have stories like this:

President Obama’s only event at the White House that isn’t closed to the press on Wednesday is a ceremony in which he’ll accept an award for being open to the press.

According to his public schedule, Obama has four behind-closed-doors meetings from 10 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.: his daily briefing, a talk with the USAID administrator, a session with senior advisers, and a huddle with his defense secretary. All of the meets are in the Oval Office, and all of them are “closed press,” the White House says.

But at 2:55 p.m., Obama will emerge to “accept an award from a coalition of good government groups and transparency advocates to recognize ‘his deep commitment to an open and transparent government—of, by, and for the people’ in conjunction with Sunshine Week,” the White House said in guidance to reporters.

However the award ceremony was postponed…

“due to unspecified “changes to the president’s schedule.”

I mean honestly you couldn’t make this up.

I think Glenn is right:

Without the press more-or-less literally carrying him, this guy couldn’t have gotten elected dogcatcher.

I don’t see why people think this guy is suddenly unbeatable. I say Ride right through them, they’re demoralized as hell.
