…but lets look at blog reaction so far:

Tim Blair: What for?

Riehl World View:

I do not freakin’ believe this. But via the BBC- it appears to be true. For what? Are you frickin’ kidding me? What a stupid joke. What a worthless award. Video of the announcement here. They put weight on his WORK? For Nuclear Weapons? All he has done is TALK! This is total BS!

THE MAN HASN’T DONE ANYTHING!! I can’t believe this. Really, I can’t. What a waste. One sensed this was just a worthless political award anymore. But this removes all doubt. If I were on the committee I’d be embarrassed. This is an absolute disgrace.

Hot Air:in addition to also thinking they might not be awake said this:

In other words, they gave him a Nobel for … being Hopenchange-y. And you thought Mark Halperin’s grade inflation was bad. This makes three times, incidentally, in just seven years that the committee’s turned the Peace Prize into a “f*** Bush” award by bestowing it on a liberal American Democrat. The Goracle got it in 2007 and Carter received it in 2002, making today’s announcement yet one more reason to consider The One his presidential heir.

Legal Insurrection:

Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. For what? Peace in Afghanistan? Peace in Iraq? Peace in the Middle East? Nope.

How about peace in Chicago, Honduras, Detroit, or somewhere? Nope.

What a joke. Was Chris Matthews on the committee?

What an embarrassment to the Nobel Peace Prize legacy. How about waiting until Obama actually did something, then give him the prize?

But then again, we elected Obama before he accomplished anything, so who are we to criticize.

Israellycool: (not actually reaction but in the post containing it)

Yesterday, Israeli President told US Middle East envoy George Mitchell that Israel had full faith in the policies of US President Barack Obama, who he said was trying to advance peace in an extremely fair way by listening to both sides and trying to find a common denominator.

Mr Peres lied.

Instapundit:

It’s Frank J. Fleming’s world. The rest of us just live in it.

Michael Graham:

Barack Obama has brought peace to the world by giving it an America that does what it’s told.

I crashed on the couch last night because the Sox game was on the west coast. When I woke up this morning and signed in AIM the headline was that President Obama had won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Being a normal and sane man I assumed I was still groggy or maybe still asleep and then turned on the TV.

Apparently not being George Bush counts for a lot. From what I’ve seen on Morning Joe even the White House seems a bit embarrassed.

I was always under the impression that you actually had to DO something to win the prize.

That makes three four US presidents. Teddy Rossevelt for his mediation in the Russian Japan war. Woodrow Wilson for the League of Nations, Jimmy Carter for Camp David and President Obama for… for… not being George Bush.

I guess we should be watching for international youtube videos of kids singing now.

I can’t think of anything that can illustrate the bankruptcy of the prize than this award. I’ve gotta run my kid to school but I’ll do some blog round up later.

Update: Forgot about Wilson. I still haven’t checked any other blogs but I can’t wait to do that.

Update 2: I must say this IS deserved. No US president since the Bush administration has not been more not George Bush than Barack Obama.

I’ve mentioned in comments elsewhere as a Massachusetts Republican I never cared much for Mitt Romney. Since I’ve been writing about this today I wanted to highlight this bit from the globe story on the subject:

That day, Hehir and O’Malley met with Romney in his State House office to make their case for an exemption, but Romney said he lacked the authority to do so.

Now if he had issued the exemption first then the other side would have to go to court to revoke it or to challenge his authority instead he left them high and dry. And when the decision was finally made to get out of the adoption business…

Almost immediately after the announcement, Governor Mitt Romney, who was in Tennessee speaking to a Republican group, issued a statement saying he would file legislation to exempt religious organizations that provide adoption services from the state’s antidiscrimination laws.

”I ask the Legislature to work with me on a bill that I will file to ensure that religious institutions are able to participate in the important work of adoption in a way that always respects and never forces them to compromise their firmly held beliefs,” Romney said.

And that was the first and last that we in Massachusetts ever heard of this bill, he never pushed it, he never put a moment of effort on it. In fact I don’t think he ever had it introduced.

And that is Mitt Romney in a nutshell, he says nice things, he looks nice, he’s smart but he doesn’t actually believe in anything enough to fight for it. Think of Bill Clinton with a nicer family and a cleaner personal life. He was better than the alternatives in Massachusetts such as the current governor but not much.

That’s Mitt, better than Obama? Sure, but that’s not much of a standard, I’d vote Mika over Obama.

The answer to Monique’s question

In her post in defense of Robert Stacy McCain Monique Stewart asks a question:

I have never quite understood why the left hates Sarah Palin so much and can’t leave her the hell alone. Who cares if she wrote a book and who cares who helped her write it? She’s the FORMER vice presidential candidate. The election has been over for almost a year. Give it a rest, already!

The answer is because she is a reality in a world of leftist fantasy.

Much of the lefts agenda depends on deception and misdirection. Like a good magician the left needs to keep the eyes away from the slight of hand that is taking place. This is the reason why they Hate Rush, this is the reason why the left needed to keep the Tea Party stuff suppressed and marginalized. The surest way to turn people away from them is for them to see what they actually are. Thus they champion American Values when they don’t actually embody them.

Conversely they have to keep them away from anything that is real, and that is Sarah Palin all over. Let’s take a look at ScrewTape Letters for a sec compare. In this particular letter Screwtape is complaining how he allowed the soul he was tempting to realize the reality of his situation:

And now for your blunders. On your own showing you first of all allowed the patient to read a book he really enjoyed, because he enjoyed it and not in order
to make clever remarks about it to his new friends. In the second place, you allowed him to walk down to the old mill and have tea there—a walk through country he really likes, and taken alone. In other words you allowed him two real positive Pleasures.

Sarah Palin is a real member of the Middle Class, a working mother who ran for Mayor to change things and slowly gained power.

Were you so ignorant as not to see the danger of this? The characteristic of Pains and Pleasures is that they are unmistakably real, and therefore, as far as they go, give the man who feels them a touchstone of reality.

Sarah Palin has done this while raising a family of 5 and more than that she given the choice of having an abortion or giving birth to a down syndrome child gave birth. This is in direct contradiction to what we are told. This more than anything else is the reason why trig truthers NEED this to be false.

Thus if you had been trying to damn your man by the Romantic method—by making him a kind of Childe Harold or Werther submerged in self-pity for imaginary distresses—you would try to protect him at all costs from any real pain; because, of course, five minutes’ genuine toothache would reveal the romantic sorrows for the nonsense they were and unmask your whole stratagem.

Shades of Gloria Reuben here.

But you were trying to damn your patient by the World, that is by palming off vanity, bustle, irony, and expensive tedium as pleasures. How can you have failed to see that a real pleasure was the last thing you ought to have let him meet? Didn’t you foresee that it would just kill by contrast all the trumpery which you have been so laboriously teaching him to value?

This is a great description of the difference between President Obama and Sarah Palin. When you actually compare their respective accomplishments the president still can’t compare and that’s with 10 months in office. When you compare how the two of them rose it illustrates it even more.

And that the sort of pleasure which the book and the walk gave him was the most dangerous of all? That it would peel off from his sensibility the kind of crust you have beenforming on it, and make him feel that he was coming home, recovering himself? As a preliminary to detaching him from the Enemy, you wanted to detach him from himself, and had made some progress in doing so.

They know that if the public actually sees Palin as she is and not as they want her to be seen, if they see the reality instead of the Hollywood endorsed fantasy that they have created they might be shocked out of their lethargy. That’s why they hate her use of facebook to give her message.

Now, all that is undone.

It’s not undone yet and unlike Wormwood the left and their media allies are not going to let it happen if it can still be stopped.

Her very life is a total repudiation of their religion of dependency and narcissism. Like Reagan she is a reminder of not just what American is and can be but what THEY AS INDIVIDUALS CAN BE. She must be stopped at all costs.

That’s why.
