Smitty nails it…as does SISU

In this post concerning the tea parties and the GOP:

Here is the point, and I think this generalizes beyond NY-23 to the rest of the country: the GOP won’t take the Tea Party seriously until the Tea Party is the GOP.

One questions why the GOP establishment would be so willing to throw away a group of involved voters who match their beliefs. The answer may in fact be that their belief in fiscal conservatism and restraint is phony, that their belief is in their own power and a promise not to blow as much as the other side.

Actual spending cuts and spending restraint and tax reform decreases the power of the federal government. The goal of the establishment is apparently not to restrict such power, but to enjoy it.

The GOP doesn’t seem to understand that they are playing with fire. The tea party is going to give them two years to prove their bonafides. If they don’t you will see an actual tea party 3rd party.

I think Rush understands this which is why he constantly implores the GOP to take the conservative path.

What can we do about it? Smitty has the solution:

I think Bill Gunn put it very well in this interview last week jump to 3:34:

Money Quote: “If a republican is a big government republican I’m not going to campaign for him.”

That is the tea party all over. The question is will republicans figure it out and act accordingly or will they destroy themselves and throw away the chance to create a lasting majority?

We will see.

BTW apparently great minds think alike, Sissy Willis put up a post making the very same argument.

It happened in the Massachusetts special election that sent Mr. Brown to Washington, and it’s happening again. The national GOP is being disintermediated via the Internet. No wonder they’re upset. The people’s choice, Joe Miller — endorsed by Sarah Palin and with major funding from the Tea Party Express — is battle ready

The question becomes, is the GOP establishment willing to destroy the party to keep it? So far the answer hasn’t been encoraging

Morning Joe on the car attack

They report his background, (not specifically mentioning his support to park 51) but since they can’t directly attach him to opposition to the mosque they still play the Gingrich card. You can see them trying to hold back, unable to make the direct connection so it is all a question of “climate”.

I would think the irony of his attachments would be the big story, but I think it is disgraceful that they attempt to link Gingrich here or opposition to the mosque here when the facts are exactly the opposite. Since the guy supports the mosque how does the “climate of hate” connect to the attack? The only climate that mattered was the climate of alcohol in his system.

I haven’t been making it up early enough today to catch the first hour so I don’t know if they hit the Carnahan story but it would be nice.

Then again they have been very balanced looking at the president and noting that he is again being treated differently that Bush would have, noting the double standards.

That’s the thing about this show, compared to every other show on MSNBC they are not afraid to look at reality. They even pointed to Sarah Palin’s success today and acknowledged it.

I wonder if MSNBC tolerates them because a morning show by nature attracts people outside the clique?

Cripes they just played the Rubio Ad. It’s awesome!

Another example of Tea Party false flag violence

You mean the firebombing of Russ Carnahan office last week is yet the latest chapter of tea party violence that wasn’t:

The suspect was reportedly a disgruntled progressive activist employed by Russ Carnahan. An unnamed source familiar with the case released the information. Suspect Chris Powers reportedly was upset because he did not get paid so he firebombed the Carnahan finance offices at 2 in the morning.

What a complete shock.

Will we see any pullback from the media about the tea party since the suspect is a blogger at TPM, active in the progressive movement for years? Of course not, mathematically sooner or later they are bound to be right on one of these stories so why stop betting on it now?

If you were wondering why this story has gotten no national play, this is why.

Did the Carnahan camp know this and consent by silence to the media’s attempt to trump this up as a tea party incident? If this is true, doesn’t this make the fourth incident in which people associated with the Carnahan campaign have run afoul of the law and have engaged in illegal behavior? Why didn’t the Russ Carnahan campaign correct the narrative of the local alternative weekly and Jake Wagman’s subtle suggestion that it was a tea partier? Because he’s in the campaign of his life and is desperate for anything, even the sympathy vote?

You can’t make lemonade out of sour lemons…

Say you’re a Democratic member of Congress. You proudly cast your vote for Obamacare, you cheered when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hailed it as the achievement of a generation and you scoffed at Republicans who vowed to repeal it. Now you’re running for re-election, and a voter asks: What is the most important thing you’ve done in the last two years?

The answer should be easy. In passing the national health care bill, you accomplished something your party dreamed of for decades. It was your most important vote, and now is the time to take credit for it.

Except it’s not.

What our democratic congressional friends fail to grasp, or didn’t bother to grasp or ignored when it was explained to at the time is the public overwhelming hated Obamacare when it was proposed, they hated it when it was negotiated, they hated it when it came up for a vote. In Massachusetts they hated it so much that they choose to send a relatively unknown republican to the senate on the promise of being the vote against Obamacare. When the deals were made it was hated and when it finally passed it was hated. And six months after it is passed it’s not only STILL hated but the fact that the public made their hatred very clear to congress and was ignored means that there is no easy way to explain it away.

Congress has forgotten that in reality they are temps with 2 and 6 year contracts. Any person who has been a temp knows that if you want to get your contract renewed it’s a bad idea to tell the people who make that decision to go to hell and hope they forget you said it in six months or so.

In 2008 the public made a critical mistake and got the government they deserved, in 2010 the congress made a critical mistake and they will shortly get the election they deserve.
