Today on DaTechGuy off DaRadio we have several interesting things to talk about

  1. The return of Secession as a Democrat election strategy
  2. Sports ratings for the new woke seasons of #bidenball
  3. Black “diversity” and Systemic Racism, reality vs Bidentalk

It all starts at 3 pm EST today you can watch the livestream here.

Hope you enjoy it

Looking at the figures on trust in media the most amazing thing about it is that their problems are totally self inflicted.

Glenn Reynolds used to say “All the Democrats have to do is not be crazy”, apparently this task is beyond them.

Given the incredible surge in business that a certain Long Island Pizza place had after refusing to drop their Trump flag I think a lot of corporations might rethink giving into the mob.

Even with the kneeling and the full blown SJW stuff that the initial NBA ratings for opening games were low, (to my surprise) should be a huge red flag to the new SJW sports leagues.

Expect to see a surge of quiet donations to the GOP from some of the largest and wokest tech companies during the final week of the campaign as they try to make nice with the party before Trump extract payment for their actions after the election.

Finally, reading the defense & even approval of the burning of books in general & the Bible in particular in replies to tweets on the subject is the best argument I’ve seen yet for keeping public schools closed.

I could understand Cobb. Ty Cobb had what the black ballplayer had. The black ballplayer had to get out of the cotton field. He had to get out of the celery fields, and this was a vehicle to get him out. This was the same thing with Cobb. Cobb had to get out of Georgia. He had to fight his way out and this was why he had this great competitive spirit. And so what he’s saying against blacks was the same thing that I think every poor white man had against blacks. Because we were competition to him.

Buck O’Neil

The left keeps insisting that we have to be hiring based on race in everything from police to orchestras so they “better reflect the communities they serve”.

What if we did this to the NBA & NFL or even MLB?

Think about that for a second.

The reason why breaking the color line in baseball was wrong wasn’t because a “black” men per se were being excluded from the game, it was because baseball players who were as good or better than the current players on the field were excluded that’s a big deal in baseball as Buck O’Neil the great Negro league player and manager put it:

For Jackie to play in the major leagues, that meant that one white boy wasn’t going to play. We had played against these fellas and they knew that we could play. And they knew if we were allowed to play, a lot of them wouldn’t play. See?

By an odd coincidence as the final teams in the league integrated and the white population of the league dropped to 82% in 1961 expansion in MLB took place with two teams added in 1961 and 1962 meaning there were 100 new major league jobs to the system and in 1968 when the white population of the league was down to 73% expansion happened again and another 4 teams (and 100 jobs) were created. (Note non-black “latinos” were not excluded from the majors but at 0.7% of the league the year Jackie Robinson debuted they constituted a nominal figure of about 4 players over a 16 team league)

Around this time Football began to overtake baseball in popularity and accordingly the best black athletes began migrating to that sport and as Basketball increased in popularity again black athletes moved in that direction in a big way.

in 2017 only 28% of the NFL was white and nearly 70% of the league is black (with Latinos and Asians at less than 2%)

In the NBA for 2017 the figures are similar with a slightly smaller white population (20%) a slightly larger Latino population about 5% and over 70% of the league consisting of black players.

Oddly I don’t hear anyone arguing that since the black population is about 12% that whites are unfairly underrepresented in the NBA or the NFL. We don’t see people insisting that that cause for this discrepancy is “systematic racism” Yet the same people who scream that because the number of black coaches is closer to the actual black population of this country as opposed to the percentage of blacks in the league don’t find it odd that those same coaches and the front offices seem to be signing black players way out of disproportion to white ones.

The simple fact is this. We have, thanks to the efforts of actual civil rights leaders (as opposed to the demagogues of today) reached a point where the primary question as to the signing of a defensive back or a wide receiver or a quarterback or a center in the NBA or a center fielder is the skill set of said player rather than their race (and occasionally the price see Cam Newton NE Patriots).

This is as it should be.

So when the racial demagogues start demanding quotas in all kinds of fields tell them you’ll consider it as soon as those same demographic quotas are applied to the high paying jobs in the NFL/NBA & MLB

Two closing thoughts:

As of 2016 the Demographics of MLB are 63.7% White, 27.4 % “Latino” 6.7% black (lowest since 1957) and 2.1% Asian. However I suspect this reflects black athletes gravitating more toward the NBA & NFL. I don’t know why black players are less interested in MLB as it’s a much better game and I would further submit and suggest that with guaranteed money, longer careers and less prospect of serious injury it’s a better choice and smarter choices for the best athletes out there. Plus you don’t have to play in the rain or freezing conditions but it’s not my call.

I haven’t included the NHL in these figures because while the NHL integrated in 1958 with Willie O’Ree joining the Boston Bruins (Ironically the Bruins integrated before the Red Sox) and while we’ve seen black superstars (HOF goalie Grant Fuhr who played from 1981-2000 comes instantly to mind) there just doesn’t seem to be the same interest in the game among the black athletes or the black community which more than anything else is the reason for the 90% white demographic of the league.

Looking at the Red Sox Roster, while even without Mookie Betts the offense looks imposing, if you look at the Rotation of Sale, Rodriguez, Eovaldi and Velazquez as 1-4 I don’t see innings eaters among them. Particularly since Sale will start the season on the DL

Last season the bullpen was devastated by the lack of starting depth, I see no sign that this is going to be abated this year. Furthermore one or two injuries will turn this team into the 1929 Cubs of my greatest teams Dynasty league. Near the top in runs scored but even higher in runs allowed.

Well it won’t be boring anyways

The Boston Celtics continue to roll their .707 winning percentage is 4th best in the NBA just behind the surprising Toronto Raptors who have not let the loss of Leonard hurt them, the Lakers who lead the west with a .786 percentage and the Bucks who are blowing everyone away at 50-8.

It seems the biggest addition to the development of this Celtics team has been the removal of Kyrie Irving who went to Brooklyn and is now out for the year. It’s worth noting that Brooklyn this season is 4 games under .500 with Irving in the lineup and one game under without him.

It will be a tough slog to get by Milwaukee in the playoffs but Celtics with a talented team minus Kyrie has a much better chance than they did last year with him.

The Boston Bruins seem to remain the poor child of the Boston sports world despite having the most points in the NHL with a five point lead over their nearest rival.

With St. Louis leading the pack in the west there is a real potential for a Stanley Cup rematch which given how last years seven games when should be a source of a lot more excitement around here, particularly when you consider that they were the only Boston team to make it to the finals last year.

There’s still a lot of Hockey to play but I really think they deserve a lot more attention around here, but I suspect until Brady gets signed that attention is going to be lacking.

Speaking of Tom Brady when it comes to the Brady sweepstakes I’m burned out. There seems to be no other topic on sports radio so lets put it simply and repeat the obvious.

Not counting the pats unless a team is a QB away from a superbowl run over the next two year signing Brady for the 30+ Million makes no sense for them and risking one’s reputation going to a lesser team makes no sense for him. I can see Jerry Jones going all in because it’s his nature and I can further see Vrabel deciding he’s like to win one more ring with Brady but other than those two there is no logical place for him to go.

New England remains the best fit both in terms of comfort, fan support and the system. Remember they were only one defensive stop vs Miami away from a 1st round bye last year. This team for all it’s weaknesses is Brady’s best chance at ring #7

The only logical reason for Brady to leave is if he wants to challenge himself and frankly given Brady’s nature that might be a factor, it’s like Batman getting out of the Tank in the Dark Knight to take on the leader of the Mutants. I suspect that decision would prove just as unwise.

On Tuesday I was at Happy Jacks for lunch and they had some kind of skiing on the Olympic Channel on the set where first they go down hill for a bit and then have to climb this other hill to get to the finish line.

The best women’s time ran about 2:28. Then the started with the men, even the fifth place man was finishing better then the best women’s time.

It hit me that all that fellow has to do is declare himself a woman and he’s got gold. Perhaps Elizabeth Warren or someone from the British Labor party can explain how that would be fair to all those women who busted their asses to get their chance for Gold.

Finally My Dynasty online Greatest Teams League will just about done by the time you read this and our division winners have been determined. The 1970 Orioles win the AL East finishing 6-8 games ahead of the 1939 Yankees pending the only unplayed AL series left the O’s 4 games against the 50-100 1934 Detroit Tigers. They will meet the 1954 Indians who needed just one win in their four game series vs the 1973 A’s to clinch and got it courtesy of a 6 hit shutout by Early Wynn. It will be a battle of great starting staffs

In the NL the Brooklyn Dodgers are at 100-50 clinching the NL East against the hard luck 1957 Braves whose 90 wins would have won both the AL or NL west. Brooklyn will finish with four games against their playoff opponents the 1962 San Francisco Giants who have two left vs Pittsburgh before those final four at home vs Brooklyn but with an 11 game lead have plenty of a lead to spare. The only question is will this be a battle of the benches or will the stars come out to shine.

My next all time league will have 24 teams 2 wildcards and will feature all the division winners plus the 24 Senators and the 57 Brewers facing 18 differerent teams including the 2009 Yanks, the 2013 Redsox, the 2016 cubs and last years World Series Champs the 2019 Nationals.

Would be happy to have you jump in and join us.
