Ipod Crisis

Posted: April 17, 2009 by datechguy in tech

Got up this morning and was greeted to Ipod issues for my son. It appears to be related to an iffy download from the store.

I’ll be clowning with it this morning to try to get it working so posting will be off and on. As opposed to normal, when posting is off and on.

Windows XP the OS that won’t die!

Microsoft has confirmed what had already been hinted at. They will offer downgrade licenses for Windows 7 to go back to XP:

Users can downgrade to Windows XP and Windows Vista from Windows 7 via OEMs for 6 months after Windows 7 General Availability. For customers and businesses running Windows XP, Microsoft still recommends an upgrade to Windows Vista before moving onto upgrading Windows 7. If the user needs to run Windows XP Professional on new PCs and if they are running Windows Vista Business or Windows Vista Ultimate already, they have the automatic right to downgrade to a previous version of Windows for the life of that PC and the downgrade media may be obtained by an OEM for Windows XP for the service life of that PC (OEMs can choose to provide downgrade media).

The direct actual post is here.

I don’t care what they say it doesn’t give inspiration for the new OS when before it comes out the topic is downgrading.

DaTechGuy: Up all night Morning Joe late

Just woke up, was up till 4 cleaning customer systems. Still connected to one so missed Morning Joe except for the last few minutes where here is some running gag about Andrew being threatened by the FDIC and a Gene Robinson Column going after Michael Steele who is still the butt of jokes.

Quick comment on Steele I just woke up and I don’t know what he said that generated Robinson’s column or even what it says but if past performance if indication of future results nothing would surprise me. We can safely say that we have apparently reached the post racial era at least for republicans since we can ridicule them without worrying about race. Then again that has been true since on the republican side since Clarance Thomas.

8:21 a.m. Who would have known Chris Dodd was in trouble? If the MSN did it’s job it would have been known months before the election as blogs like Instapundit reported on it over and over but the MSN ignored it.

8:25 a.m. Apparently Tarp2 happens without a vote? Joe is Shocked SHOCKED that democrats are doing it.

8:29 a.m. Joe complains he has Obama has no private sector stuff Sen Cronin points out president Obama won.

8:31 a.m. “If you are going to operate on a brain I hope you operated on a brain before.” There is a great line from Drums Along the Mohawk concerning that. I’ll see if I can find the clip. (no sign of it but it goes like this. The General needs his leg cut off and he is being laid down to have it done and he talks to the young doctor:

“Doctor have you ever taken a man’s leg?” “No General” “Well don’t be embarrassed. A man’s got to start somewhere.”)

8:38 a.m. Soros trying to influence the markets? Say it isn’t so!

Virus with AIM stuff UPDATED!

A few min ago got a ping from my son in AIM trying to send me a picture, as I’m busy with my customers I pinged him back saying I had no time for it, he said he didn’t send it.

Apparently the people I’m working with tonight are also having this thing sent to them. It seems it is a virus spread via stolen entries in the buddy list!

So as always beware of odd links sent, you never know what might be behind it.

Update: Been deep in two systems I’m working on and my son’s account suddenly logged on an hour after he hit the sack and attempted to send me a link again. Instead of saying he was “pregnant” like the last time it said look at the new pics and gave me a link to a bebo pictures four dot TK.

Apparently the virus once acquired re-logs at different times and attempts to re-send the trojan using a different combination of words in the hopes that people on the buddy list will be foolish enough to click on one of them. Once there it reads the list and then starts re-sending. It may also lock the account by changing the key word preventing you from changing the password and locking the virus out. My son’s attempt to change the password failed. As it’s locked for 24 hours he will try again tonight.
