Why is Mitch McConnell trying to scuttle the midterm red wave?

Mitch McConnell is the poster child for everything that is wrong with the Republican Party. He is most definitely a Republican in Name Only, yet the Senate Republicans keep electing him to the top role in that legislative body.

I despise the Republican Party almost as much as I despise the Democrat Party, though for vastly different reasons.  I despise the Democrat Party because they are now indistinguishable from the socialist party that is destroying Venezuela.  I despise the Republican party because they constantly enable the Democrats’ destruction of the United States. 

As you can see from this article, What the Hell Is Mitch McConnell Doing? (townhall.com), Mitch McConnell is enabling the Democrats’ latest attempt to eradicate the Second Amendment.

Well, it would seem the 60-vote watch regarding these bipartisan anti-gun talks could be over. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) signaled that he is a ‘yes’ vote on the bipartisan gun control package that’s being hashed out up on the Hill.  It includes funding for mental health and school security, but also provides funds to incentivize expanding red flag laws. The latter is not good news as the guardrails for overreach have not been set. It impacts veterans at disproportionate rates, and some might argue they’re unconstitutional on its face.  Wherever you stand, there’s also, there’s the whole principle aspect of the matter. Forget that we elect Republicans to be the defenders of Second Amendment rights, if you give Democrats an inch—they’re going to be looking to take 1000-mile chunks in the next round.

Before Mitch McConnell, and the rest of the 10 traitor Republicans, who are helping to draft this deeply flawed pile of excrement, vote on this garbage, they should read this article: There Are Many Potential Problems With The Bipartisan Gun Deal (thefederalist.com)

10 Republican senators have agreed to bribe states into participating in passing emergency risk-protection legislation that allows courts to take guns from those deemed a threat to themselves or others.

When carefully written, red flag laws may have merit, but prudence is rare. In states like California, Connecticut, and Maryland, authorities can confiscate weapons merely on the strength of an uncorroborated allegation by family members, coworkers, law enforcement officers, or others without any kind of genuine due process. Will Senate Republicans guarantee that funding for state laws is contingent on laws that have protections for basic due process rights, penalties for bringing frivolous or false charges against gun owners, and assurances that those who receive the proper mental health treatment get their weapons returned, because in many places a “temporary” petition means a lifetime ban? Seems unlikely.

Not that long ago, Democrats wanted to pass a bill that would have stripped anyone on terror watch and no-fly lists — some 40 percent of whom have nothing even tangentially to do with terrorism — of both their Fifth and Second Amendment rights. Republicans have no reason to trust their devotion to due process.

Mitch McConnell will prove to be a much bigger villain in this destruction of the Second Amendment if this passes becsuse he helped to bring this legislation into existence. McConnell Urges GOP to Work with Democrats on Gun Control Legislation (breitbart.com)

Senate Minority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Thursday “encouraged” Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) to work with Senate Democrats on gun control legislation in a reaction to the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas this week.

If this odious bill passes it will anger the base of the Republican Party, which is sick and tired of being betrayed by the spineless sycophants who make up the leadership of the Republican Party. 

The hero of Watergate: Frank Wills

As talking heads and journalistic wannabes pontificate about this week’s anniversary of the Watergate break-in and its aftermath, few will mention Frank Wills.

“If there is no accountability, another president will feel free to do as he chooses. But the next time, there may be no watchman in the night,” said U.S. Rep. James Mann (D-South Carolina) of the House Judiciary Committee as he cast his vote to impeach Richard Nixon.

Wills was that watchman at the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate complex on June 17, 1972, when five men tried to plant electronic listening devices.

Then 24, Wills called the police after discovering that locks at the complex had been tampered with. Five men were arrested inside the Democratic headquarters, which triggered the Watergate scandal and eventually the resignation of President Richard Nixon in 1974.

Although hailed as a hero, Wills spent much of his life jobless and in poverty.

Wills was born in Savannah, Georgia. His parents separated when he was a child, and he was raised by his mother, Margie. After dropping out of high school, Wills studied heavy machine operations in Battle Creek, Michigan, and earned his high school equivalency degree from the Job Corps. He found an assembly-line job at Ford in Detroit, Michigan, but had to give up the position because of asthma. Wills then traveled to Washington, D.C., and worked at several hotels before landing a job as a security guard at the Watergate complex.

On the night of June 17, 1972, Wills noticed a piece of duct tape on one of the door locks when he was making his rounds. The tape was placed over the latch to prevent the door from shutting. He removed the tape and continued his patrol. Thirty minutes later, Wills returned to the door and noticed there was more tape on the same door. Without hesitation, Wills called the police. 

The police turned off the elevators and locked the doors while accompanying Wills to search the offices one by one. Five men—all with ties to the Committee to Re-elect the President—were found in the offices and arrested. “When we turned the lights on, one person, then two persons, then three persons came out, and on down the line,” Wills recalled.

According to media reports, Wills quit his job because he did not receive a raise.

After his brief fame, Wills had difficulty keeping a job. He said in an interview that Howard University feared losing its federal funding if it hired him. A security job with Georgetown University did not last long. Also, he worked for a brief time for the comedian Dick Gregory.

In the mid-1970s, Wills settled in North Augusta, South Carolina, to care for his aging mother, who had suffered a stroke. Together, they survived on her Social Security checks of $450 a month. In 1979, Wills was convicted of shoplifting and fined $20. Four years later, he was convicted of shoplifting a pair of sneakers from a store in Augusta, Georgia, and served one year in prison. By the time of his mother’s death in 1993, Wills was so impoverished that he had to donate her body to medical research because he had no money to bury her.

Only when significant anniversaries of the Watergate break-in occurred did the media remember him for a bit. In 1992, on the 20th anniversary of the burglary, reporters asked if he would do it all over again. “That’s like asking me if I’d rather be white than black. It was just a part of destiny,” he replied.

At 52, Wills died in Augusta, Georgia, from a brain tumor with neither fame nor fortune–little more than a footnote in history. 

But he was the hero of Watergate. Without his actions, it’s unlikely anyone would know what the Nixon administration was up to. 

Questions about the “Gun Control Deal” So Obvious they Shouldn’t Need to Be Asked

I like the folks at Powerline who have been blogging as long or longer than I have but in their review of the gun control “deal” there are some questions so obvious that I find it incredible that they are not asking them:

Investment in Children and Family Mental Health Services

What does this actually mean? Does it mean what it usually does basically a slush fund for various liberal NGO’s and funding activists? Does “Drag Queen Story Hour” qualify as such an investment?

Under 21 Enhanced Review Process

Will such a review be simply a check of juvenile court records or will it be something more? Will it check to see if an under 18, say , tweeted something against Gay Marriage? Objected to multiple pronouns? Insisted there were only two genders? Why would you think the left would not use these as part of such a review process?

Intervention Orders

Why does Powerline think the “more libs on the public payroll” which is the phrasing they use will not use this for interventions again as above? Why do they think these same libs are letting people go based on Race and have held the J6 defendants for over a year and are using political prosecutions against political foes will use this honesty?

Funding for School Safety Resources

What does this actually mean? Who determines what these resources are and how they provide safety? Given that the left’s pols can’t define “man” or “woman” how can we trust them to define “school safety recourse” in such a way as to fund their agenda or determine that any type of conservative thought, expression or action is “unsafe”?

And last but not least:

” it could have been a lot worse. ” (emphasis mine)

Seriously? During a year when the dishonest and dishonorable left are running for the hills is our standard for passing a hodgepodge of “gimmes” for the left that “it could have been a lot worse?” Are we really going to pass regulations that are going to be expanded and amended over the year in order to weaponize these rules against conservatives? Why are we going to trust these people who won’t condemn or even talk about the attempted murder of a Conservative SCOTUS to apply these rules fairly? And if you choose to argue that the Democrats who are negotiating this deal are not the crazies, why do you think that these folks who are too cowardly to stand up to their crazies now will do so when the chips are down?

If you want to know how we should deal with the left’s demands on gun control we should give them the same answer that Michael Corleone gave to the Senator trying to shake him down.

Until we see actual evidence of good faith from Democrats give them nothing. ignore their proposals, their demands. I’ll give the last work to Kurt:

 The left can only impose its will when it convinces us to choose to let them do so. They have to make us care. Look at them. They are a gaggle of mutated misfits, neurotic chicks, academic parasites, grievance hustlers, and femmy doofuses who can’t do a push-up. They can force nothing on us. That’s why they attempt to enlist the power of the state to do it for them, but their real power comes from us going along

Update: Ok I know this is going up at the same time as the base post but I added it after it was ready to be scheduled and it perfectly illustrates why we don’t need to give them a thing:

A passerby saw a man “aggressively” trying to get into the school building. When the man was unsuccessful, he tried several other doors, all of which were locked. The responsible observer called to report the man, the school principal put the building on lockdown and called in a police officer who doubles as the school resource officer, and that officer called for backup. If the reports are correct, the chain of command worked smoothly thanks to decisive action and quickly followed protocols.

The resource officer reportedly engaged the would-be invader, who then also allegedly attempted to forcefully enter a marked police vehicle and to take the officer’s gun. More police officers rushed to the scene to help, and the assailant was shot and killed. According to the city’s school superintendent, the schoolchildren who were there “seemed to be unaware the incident occurred.”

In other words, a man who “aggressively” tried to break into a school and take the firearm of a police officer was stopped because doors were properly locked and police officers acted bravely and urgently.

We know how to stop these guys but that’s not the goal of the left, it never has been.

Report from Louisiana: Our Service Industry is Anemic

SHREVEPORT – I think I’m going to give up eating out for a while.

Working under the same theory I used when I stepped back from social media to avoid general aggravation and blood pressure spikes, avoiding the restaurants and fast-food joints in my area for a while will serve two benefits: 1) I’ll save a few bucks, and 2) I’ll be less aggravated when my order is screwed up, if I ever get to place an order at all, that is.

My husband is blaming the low level of quality service on the stimulus and extended unemployment checks that were doled out during the pandemic. He’s probably not wrong, but may not 100% right, either.

It just seems that lately, service sucks. Period. There’s no pride in a job well done and so many people won’t do one iota more than what is in their job description.

Example: we went to Sonic for a quick hamburger for lunch on the way home from church. The place is busy, but not overwhelmed. We pull into the parking slot, push the button to order, and wait. And wait, And wait. “Reb button is activated! We’ll be with you soon!”  Waiting. Eventually we see a carhop stroll out to drop off drinks to the car next to us. My husband gets her attention, with some effort, as she walks back by us and asks if the call button is working properly and explains we’ve been waiting ten minutes to place our order. She shrugs and says “We shorthanded. They’ll get to you.” And she strolls away.

We left and went to Whataburger, a regional hamburger franchise we like. Again, business is steady but not overwhelming. But we waited literally 35 minutes after placing our order to get our hamburgers and fries. Husband walked up to the counter to inquire, and our food was sitting in the back; nobody had thought to bring it out. It was cold, but we took it and left.

This happens in restaurants too; it’s not just fast-food places. I took my son out for a steak dinner the other night and the steak was not cooked to order (not even close). Inedible.

The cake in my picture above? “Holy Eucharisp” was written on a cake my church ordered to celebrate Baptism and First Communion on Pentecost. WHAT is a Eucharisp?  The bakery thought this was acceptable. And sent this product out to us. #fail.

I’m not a picky customer. Not by a long shot. But quality of service is declining. Am I the only one seeing this? Labor shortages are bringing us the lowest levels of productivity. Are we really to the point where any warm body behind the counter will do? It’s one thing when we are talking about hamburgers but what about when it’s happening in your pharmacy or your auto mechanics or your other service areas? For the record, my pharmacy used to be open seven days a week but now it closes on weekends.

These are scary times. Our society and our levels of acceptance for poor performance have changed. We’re so grateful to finally get that cold hamburger we just take it and move on. Obviously it’s not just hamburgers we’re talking about here. Think of all the things that metaphor could apply to.

We’re in trouble.
