Welcome To the Democrat West Coast Where Potential School Shooters are Unreported and Sexual Assaults are not Investigated (Unexpectedly of Course)

Our friends on the left, in between pretending Joe Biden’s presidency is a success and the economy is fine (which in fairness for the connected class that lives on graft or the very rich who have more money than they can spend it is) they keep informing us that the US will be a better place if you just put them in charge.

Well it’s now working out to good in Seattle if you are the victim of a sexual crime

Seattle police’s sexual assault and child abuse unit staff has been so depleted that it stopped assigning to detectives this year new cases with adult victims, according to an internal memo sent to interim police Chief Adrian Diaz in April.

The unit’s sergeant put her staffing crisis in stark terms. 

“The community expects our agency to respond to reports of sexual violence,” Sgt. Pamela St. John wrote, “and at current staffing levels that objective is unattainable.”

What’s rather amazing is the Seattle Times point to this as a failure of the new mayor who is against the “Defund the police” business that has been pushed. Apparently electing one official who is for them hasn’t convinced potential recruits that the city has their back, meanwhile at the police stations…

The understaffing in the sexual assault unit has drained the morale of its employees, most of whom are overworked and burned out, according to a detective in the unit who requested anonymity because SPD policy prohibited them from speaking with the media. While detectives struggle to make a dent in large child abuse and sexual assault caseloads, the department has also drafted them to work security and traffic control at sporting events. 

So in this case women and children are in fact the hardest hit.

Meanwhile in California they have decided to take a firm stance against school shootings…by firmly deciding that teachers should not have to report potential shooters to authorities:

The California State Senate voted Thursday to end a requirement that students who threaten violence against school officials be reported.

Before the California law was passed, existing law stated that whenever a school official is “attacked, assaulted, or physically threatened by any pupil,” staff was “required to promptly report the incident to specified law enforcement authorities.” The new bill repealed this requirement.

California passed the law just two days after an 18-year-old gunman opened fire on an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, killing two adults and 19 children.

Mind you this isn’t one city that has gone off the rails. This is the representatives of the entire state deciding this is a good idea.

I think it’s safe to say that children will be hardest hit by this one as well.

So remember the left tells you how their policies make everything better, just think who it’s making everything better for.

Closing thought, remember in both of these cases these cities and states did this to themselves.

Arson, climate change, and wildfires

Is it a wildfire if an arsonist sets it?

It’s been a brutal season for wildfires in the west. Climate change of course is usually blamed for these fires but what about arson?

The Fawn Fire in northern California, which has burned about 13 square miles, is fully contained after two weeks of destruction. It has destroyed 185 buildings.

How did it start?

A former San Francisco Bay Area yoga teacher, Alexandra Souverneva who claims to be a shaman on her LinkedIn page, is accused of accidentally starting it while trying to boil water to remove bear urine from it. But a California newspaper says that Souverneva may be connected to other fires.

Gary Maynard, a former college professor, is being held without bail for allegedly setting several fires near the Dixie Fire in northern California. He is not accused of starting the Dixie Fire, but the cause of that blaze, which is still undetermined, may have been caused by Pacific Gas and Electric equipment. 

This year, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, over 100 people have been accused of wildland arson.

Conditions are very dry in California–it is suffering from drought conditions. If an arsonist attempts to start a fire in one of the forest preserves near where I live in Morton Grove, Illinois, it will likely be a slow burn, as we’ve had a wet summer here. In California the results will be horribly different. 

If you haven’t heard about arson as the cause of wildfires it’s probably because the mainstream media, to protect another of its narratives, in this case that climate change is an existential threat to humanity, is minimizing arson’s role in wildfires. 

But CNN sees the arson angle of wildfires as a serious enough of a threat to that narrative that it published an article in August debunking it. 

Arson-caused wildfires is something to keep your eye on.

How badly is California run? So badly that even Pot growers need a government bailout to survive.

There are those who think my statement that the goal of the purge of the military is to have one that will be willing to fire at US citizens without question is extreme. I offer this as more evidence to support this claim:

Adm. Michael M. Gilday, the chief of naval operations, did not answer questions Tuesday about whether author-activist Ibram X. Kendi’s opposition to interracial adoption and capitalism is extreme.

The smartest thing our enemies ever did was to start buying people rather than weapon systems.

Given the voting habits and news sources that NYT readers follow they might just be stupid enough to fall for it and will deserve all they get from going.

I’ve said it before I’ll say it again not moving to Portland after my Honeymoon based there was the best non-decision of my life.

Of course this is in keeping with DaTechguy’s laws of media outrage because their only principle is power.

Finally given the persecution and marginalization of Christianly in general and the Catholic Church in particular in modern society band by media in the west I find this most appropriate:

Mass Rocks, the clandestine churches of an age of persecution

In the 16th-18th centuries, during the period of the “Penal Laws” enforced by England, any public expression of the Catholic faith in Ireland was prohibited. Churches were closed, Catholics faced fines and imprisonment for practicing their faith, and priests were threatened with death for tending to to their flock.

In spite of the danger, Catholic priests continued to celebrate Mass, and held services in secluded outdoor locations, making use or large rocks or boulders as altars. These “Mass Rocks” are still in existence today, and since that difficult time, have served as a reminder of the hardships and the resolute faith of the Irish Catholics of the past.

Reviving the Mass Rocks

With the ACN Ireland Mass Rock Campaign, these boulders are more than just a symbol or interesting historical artifact. They are once again the sacred places where, acting in the person of Christ, priests celebrate the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist, where, in the words of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “they make present again and apply, until the coming of the Lord, the unique sacrifice of the New Testament, that namely of Christ offering himself once for all a spotless victim to the Father.”

Raise Taxes, Kill Businesses – Must be California

42 years later, California’s Proposition 13 continues to inspire attempt after attempt to kill it. This Election Day – er, Election Season – is no different. Passed in 1978 – back when the aerospace and oil industries were still vibrant enough to pepper the state with conservatives – the law allows property tax rates to be increased only upon a sale of the property and limits any increase to a 2% rate of inflation. Nothing a politician hates more than limits on taxation. Since ’78, progressives have thrown more propositions, lawsuits, and legislation at the hated law, and despite California’s voters electing bluer and bluer representatives, they still somehow continue to protect lower property taxes. There’s something about voting on actual legislation, with its provisions in black-and-white, rather than voting for personalities, that sobers the voters’ minds. Propositions cannot hide so easily behind a flashy smile or perfectly-creased pants.

It’s easy to imagine these tax-loving cretins in their Sacramento offices, watching with envy as property values throughout the state sprout ever higher. The Federal Housing Price Index shows that the House Price Index for California has risen almost 700% since 1979. This drives the politicians crazy, that in the wake of these gains, their hands remain cuffed, unable to pick the pockets of its citizens. Progressive dreams of income redistribution, even in the navy-blue Golden State, remain at least somewhat limited.

The latest attempt to undo Prop 13 is Prop 15. Prop 15 promises to raise property taxes by setting the tax rate at the market rate. But, knowing California voters’ reluctance to mess with Prop 13, the authors of 15 have limited its effects to only commercial properties. They presumably suspect the progressive voters here may not mind raising taxes on capitalist endeavors, so long as their own homes are left out of it. One can only marvel that California may pass yet another anti-business law, even as business flee the already-stratospheric taxes and cost-of-living.

A survey of California likely voters released ten days ago reveals 49% favor Prop 15, while 45% oppose it.

Don’t be surprised to see more moving trucks headed for parts east come 2021. And as the businesses flee, the Sacramento tax coffers will fall, and the politicians will look for where else they can raise tax rates. Why do I suspect those eyes will fall upon residential properties?

One effect of California’s feeble educational system: the local politicians educated in it never learn. Tuesday will tell if the voters have.
