…has as many Christians praying for him as Christopher Hitchens does right now.

I have been advised by my physician that I must undergo a course of chemotherapy on my esophagus. This advice seems persuasive to me. I regret having had to cancel so many engagements at such short notice.

Rules of Christianity not withstanding I find it impossible to dislike Chris Hitchens, he is brave, loyal , honest to a fault and wrong as anyone can be about God in general and Christianity in particular.

He is open minded enough not to be offended by me and others like me offering prayers for his recovery (we’ll offer them for his redemption too but that’s beside the point). I must confess a bit of a selfish motive, I think the world will be a lesser place when he leaves it.

…he has all the tools of classical liberalism. You can’t help but respect such a man even when disagreeing with him. Michael J. Totten’s site contains part one of a two part interview that I suspect a lot of people missed last week with all the political news out there. One gem from it:

Hitchens: Here’s a way of throwing an Oregon progressive into a state of confusion: ask him or her if they’ve read the latest Al Qaeda pronouncements on the Hindu question. Or, shall we put it another way, a billion infidels, brown-skinned, third world, living in a secular democracy, and all of them deemed by fatwa as fit only for slaughter.

Who’s the racist here? Me for pointing that out?

Read the whole thing.

At the end of it Evangelical Christian Joe Scarborough said “Happy Holidays” and proud and public atheist Christopher Hitchens said “Merry Christmas.” To quote his column of the 11th:

I myself repose no faith in any man-made text or made-man redeemer, so when it’s Christmas I say “Merry Christmas” with a clear conscience, as I respect Ramadan and Passover, and also because “Happy Holidays” is so thin and insipid.

And Joe you might want to bush up on your scripture a bit, particularly Matt 10:32-33.

I’ve always liked Chris Hitchens even though he is seriously embedded with Palin Derangement syndrome and it was because of that syndrome that he made it on the last segment on MSNBC’s Morning Joe today.

In between talking sense on the war (which he always does) and pointing out that Joe Biden insulted Afghanistan with his “Good luck in your senior year” crack; (BIG NEWS) he backed up Eugene Robinson on his Palin Hit today and derided and insulted the governor so strongly that his old friends on the left might be tempted to have him back. Andrea Mitchell agreed but nobody can throw an insult like Chris Hitchens can, his insults are almost high art.

Somehow nobody at that MSNBC table mentioned climategate as a probable cause for any shift:

The president’s decision to attend the international climate conference in Copenhagen needs to be reconsidered in light of the unfolding Climategate scandal.

That is the first line in her Facebook post. Let’s look at the first line of her post op-ed

With the publication of damaging e-mails from a climate research center in Britain, the radical environmental movement appears to face a tipping point.

This point never made it to the table. For MSNBC Climategate doesn’t exist unlike say Glenn Reynolds who this morning had 6 posts on the subject between 7:50 & 8:45 this morning.

Morning Joe is the best MSNBC has, and Joe and Mika are the fairest people on that entire network, yet one blogger in Tennessee sees the elephant in the room that they can’t.

If they aren’t embarrassed then that is only because they have lost the capability to be so.
